the word "celebrity" has such strong connotations these days. Michael Jackson was a true Celebrity, he was so because he was a master of his art and a master of the media.
Everything you think you know about a celebrity is uncertain, because it is all fed to you through the media, which we know thrives on controversy, shock, emotion, etc. The media is very influential, though not always truthful.
You can easily verify this by noticing how many complete strangers to Michael Jackson are ranting on about who he really was in this thread.
I am sad such a great performer and important character has passed away, but such is life.
Dont just listen, you have to watch it to. It is mesmerizing.
I read that he cried after that Motown performance because he thought his performance was awful. To me, it was the greatest thing I've ever seen. I have a giant (at least a few gigs) file of that performance - perfect quality that I would show to my friends who would come over and we'd drink and dance along to it. Ahh ... Michael ...

I agree, I had an argument with one friend because of this same thing, people are good for citicizing others without even knowing wtf they are talking about, most people in the world just talk shit because they can.
One of the biggest drawback of being a celebrity is that people are always willing to believe the spectacular simply because it's sensation "news" and more exciting than the truth. For example, if you were to be accused of being a pedophile with nothing but hearsay against you, no one would believe it. (hopefully =P) But for a celebrity it'll follow them till the press drops the issue. RIP King of Pop.

Wow.... I was driving moments ago and I turned on one of most popular radio station in NY, KTU 103.5, and they're like "we've heard multiple reports Michael Jackson is dead.... this is a very sad day... we'll now play MJ songs" and start MJ songs continuously on and on. However, I then tuned onto other radio stations and.... nothing, no news of this, no mention of him, and not even a song of MJ.... even Z100, the most popular radio station in NYC....
But yea, it is a sad day.... however, I'll be frank and honest here, I did not know he was 50 and I stopped caring for him back years ago. Although this is a big news, I just can't see how this will affect my life at any way..... however, at the very least, RIP Michael Jackson.
so sad, he was a great performer, and i grew up listening to him. Despite the fact that he probably was a pedophile, that didn't make the quality of his singing any worse. R.I.P. Michael Jackson D:
