My friends used to go LARPing and dress up as elves (one girl even painted herself blue.) so from personal experience I'd say fantasy is nerdier. Although if one of my friends dressed up as a robot I might have to re-think my ideas.

- voted sci-fi, cause it is the stuff that has forged many of our technological breakthroughs; I mean before reality there must be dreams e.g. not to mention many obvious ones, here is an obscure example: a Logic named Joe by Murray Leinster in 1955, not only predicted the personal computer and the internet but the possible problems in might come with..

- anyway objectively speaking sci-fi wins 10:1 against fantasy when it comes to fiction if u go through my bookshelves
- I enjoy both though : ) imagine a world without Tolkein? ouch!

fantasy is nerdier because its more larpable, and larping as we all know, is the epitomy of nerdiness.

also, its unrealistic whereas usualy sci-fi is usually based around a realistic what-if-future scenario.

haha, What if aliens came to earth and built a portal to our imagination and goblins and orcs came running out pillaging and raping everything in sight?

lol, thats actually not a bad premise for a cross genre.
..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

sci fi is nerdier but i think it has more scope and potential for originality than fantasy

I prefer Fantasy. I like both though.

Fantasy is unrealistic and doesn't try to be realistic at all, so that's OK. Sci-Fi sometimes tries to make unrealistic shit sound plausible. For example, any movie involving "hacking" erks the shit out of me. I was watching Swordfish last night, and Hugh Jackman's character is presented with a 512-bit encrypted authentication that he has to break in 60 seconds. It shows his character trying to brute force the password, "anon, anonymous, admin, administrator, pass, ..." and then he nails it. Might as well be Fantasy because it would take the age of the universe to brute force a password that way. 60 seconds, pshhhh.

Mark this under that short list of shit we agree on =p

I like both myself. But ZOMBIES are my favorite nerd thing.

And for a good fantasy/sci fi (it's both!) movie, look no further than KRULL:

I think Sci-Fi, Future is more nerdy.

I recall the crowd in the cinema when I went to watch Chronicles of Riddick
And I picture the big fans of Star Trek, Star Wars, Flash Gordon, etc as a bunch of nerds.
I guess part of it is because some of those individuals have a strong interest in future technology which is highly associated with computers and robotics. People with those interest are stereotyped to me to be nerdies.

Whereas, people who like medieval, fantasy, and magic are probably lovers of the arts. I picture them enjoying a good book, appreciating art works, and daydreaming. They may be weird, and some are nerdy, but I think most aren't.

in sum,
Sci-Fi = Likes computers, robots, technology = Nerd
Fantasy = Likes to daydream, art, read = Artist

fantasy = long-haired dnd players who listen to metal and can't dress properly.

call them artists or fags, the facts stay the same.
