Well, i suppose Akinator is "learning" too... when you play the questions out, it says afterwards "Character played X times". So Akinator probably has a Database that reflects which questions/answers lead to certain characters. I suppose its also a quite huge database or somesthing tricky like google searches in the background (thinking of it, that would make a lot of sense, formulating google searches after a bunch of information is gathered and then go for the most probable).
Its all speculation though, but Akinator got me thinking quite a bit about how it works :D

I thought of first chess World Champion Wilhelm Steinitz and Akinator after 20 Questions shown me a pic of Veselin Topalov (modern chess grandmaster)! Well done as for such hard character to guess.
EDIT: And after 13 questions Akinator guessed... himself. That was too dumb to try...

I actually got Jaedong, twice, once while trying to guess MJY (savior), MJY took 30 questions :<. 30th question: Was your character caught lying? lmao
He guessed almost everything correctly: Jaedong, Flash, Tossgirl, Sindragosa/Anub'arak (WoW), one of my country's politicians, several Pokemon, himself, lol
Two things he failed at: Turtwig (Pokemon -> guessed Bulbasaur lol) and Kate Lockwell.
Edit: Tried to get him to guess EffOrt, said No to Was he caught lying? question and it still guessed savior XD

FML now it gets Kaylee too! I know I found this very late but it's pretty insane haha.

well if he wont guess right, he would ask you to input what character you wanted him to guess and then after some time he updates his database with new characters, so the longer it exists the more characters he knows.

He's really impressive, he got Magnus Gallant from ogre battle, Heero Yuey from Gundam Wing, Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo! and he even got Yugo Ogami from Bloody Roar Primal Fury. I beat him with Temjim from Virtual On tho.
