Venetian Snares.

Some background:
Funk’s distinctive style reflects unconventional time signatures and extremely rapid and erratic rhythms. Unpredictable and stimulating, the music is intense. He is known for making experimental IDM (Intelligent Dance Music), breakcore and glitchcore, although he can’t be only bound to those genres. Musical influences include funk, free jazz, metal, gabba and symphonies.

Youtube really doesn't do the song justice.. or any other song.

Venetian Snares is great, i don't really like his gabber stuff like "Winnipeg is a frozen shithole" etc.

If you like Venetian Snares you'll probably like Xanopticon too, was kind of hard to find a decent sample from Xanopticon but this one is pretty good.

Xanopticon is known for his super-precise beatslicing and ridiculous complexity, it's almost insane how minimal his cuts are.

We make signature, then defense it.

Yeah, i don't like the gabber either. I love his newest album, Detrimentalist, though.

This thread delivers so much great things that I just want to say thank you to all the people who have posted even one song, it's really amazing!.

Here's one I really Like.

Something for Rockets - Look Around

A kind of nice vibe to it, the main rythm of the song is like this sync mixed with electronica and drum samples, following by a more fast tempo, but the same amazing rythm in the back. I found these guys back in the day, and I still really really like them.

It's like a departure from all the noise I constantly hear ?

I don't listen to new music anymore, here are things I still put on. I don't know what your criteria for mainstream is, this stuff is well known in its respective circles but rarely outside. That MIA track sees play in college bars though.

+ Show Spoiler +

M.I.A. - indie chick who raps over reasonably unique beats; both her albums are good

+ Show Spoiler +

Roky Erikson. Super early psych rock and by far some of the best stuff the rock genre ever produced. Hes really crazy and it shows in his stuff; grab a copy of The Evil One (it was re-released in the past few years) his other stuff is pretty hit and miss.

+ Show Spoiler +

Mercyful Fate. Part of the 'first wave' black metal bands, one of the few that held up over time. It sounds like 70s metal trying to identify itself and not black metal as it became in the 90s. Melissa and Dont Break the Oath are the only albums from my teenage years that I still love, anyone who tells you they like metal and doesn't love King Diamond is probably an idiot. A lot of his later stuff sucks though.

Metallica did a medley of a number of their songs on Garage Inc, its pretty badass. + Show Spoiler +

Though all the originals off that album are badass as hell (Diamond Head LOLOL).

also, I don't know if you consider it mainstream, most people probably heard this tune somewhere, but I don't think it has enough recognition for its awesomeness

I'll list a couple of things I think is worth lisening to

Revenans/Ignito
[image loading]

Korean Underground Hip-hop. Not like that Epik High, Dynamic Duo etc. crap.
This is easily the best korean Hip-Hop artist out there. Ignito made a album called 'Demolish' but now this year he has released a collab with Dazdepth, and they call themselves Revenans. Their first album is selftitled.

I'll list a couple of songs from both Revenans and Ignito's album.

Now you got three different artists in three different genres that are completely awesome, you can't go wrong with any of these guys.

I'm very into music with great vocals, and good layers of music. But I must say I also enjoy harmony, and good rhythm but not with too much excess.

Mates of State, they're a great indie group part of the Polyvinyl Records group (they've been getting some decent publicity lately), anyways Mates of State is composed of a husband and wife and they seem to have a good connection in their songs.

Goods by the Mates of State
+ Show Spoiler +

Anna Nalick, shes probably more mainstream than the Mates of State but I really enjoy her vocals. This is not the song video, as it has none, but its decent all the same

Wreck of the Day by Anna Nalick
+ Show Spoiler +

Foy Vance has a very powerful voice, and that mixed with the simple background music make him sound awesome (which he is), anyways these are my two favorite songs by him

Gabriel and the Vagabond by Foy Vance
Indiscriminate Act of Kindness

The Mars Volta are pretty well known now, but their sound is original and very interesting, the lead singer has a great voice as well.

(bad quality but w/e)

Damien Rice, he has also become very mainstream but his music is very awesome. Also he went from living in the streets to famous artist, which is totally cool.

The Blower's Daughter (his most famous song) by Damien Rice

Tracy Chapman has a decent voice, but behind that she has infused her songs with powerful meanings, I enjoy her lots.

Modest Mouse: Teeth Like God's Shoeshine. I can never get enough of this song, especially the middle sections, which just are just heartwrenching (imo). The song is on the longer side which allows it to touch in a bunch of places.

+ Show Spoiler +

Sleater-Kinney: Get Up. The guitar in this song sounds so alone. It's fucking beautiful.

+ Show Spoiler +

Radiohead: Idioteque. It's Radiohead. Mmmmmk?

+ Show Spoiler +

And finally something i actually found on teamliquid! I think it was Day[9] that wrote a thread about it, but I checked out Trentemoller on a whim, and jesus galloping christ his music is amazing. If you need some minimal electronica it's here.
