Sinergy. These guys are a metal band from finland. Unfortunately they haven't been active in the past 5 years or so, but the three albums they made were freakin fantastic. They feature Alexi Laiho (Children Of Bodom) on guitar, and on the second two albums Roope Latvala (Children Of Bodom, Stone, etc) on guitar as well, and Marco Hietala (Nightwish, Tarot) on bass.
Sonata Arctica. Another metal band from finland, but if you're not into the really heavy metal stuff, you might prefer these guys. It's more fantasy-based lighter speed metal (I don't know how to properly describe it, but my description sounds like dragonforce which they are NOT like).
Opeth. These guys are really heavy, more like a black metal band. Their singer growls (as opposed to the previous two bands I posted), but it's definitely a growl rather than a scream, and personally I love it. These guys have great heavy licks, you should definitely check them out. They're pretty progressive, especially with their new stuff. If you remotely like these guys I suggest you check them out on an actual mp3 file (not youtube shit) with a good pair of headphones, as there's a lot of subtlety to their music.
ALSO I SUGGEST YOU CLICK ON THEM AND GO TO YOUTUBE AND PUT &fmt=18 AT THE END OF THE ADDRESS BAR! Only some of them actually improve the quality, but for example the opeth one is so vastly improved by this it's disgusting to listen to it on normal youtube quality.
The music video has an altered version of the song that I dislike compared to the original. I suggest you get the album instead.
I don't consider myself part of this whole "scene" they seem to represent, so I don't really recommend watching their weird videos, but this is probably my favorite band.

good stuff. Never heard of sinergy but CoB and nightwish are fun Opeth ftw.
this is Alias. i really recommend clicking on the 3rd song: What You Gave Away. this guy has really laid back music but i really enjoy it. it's very peaceful electronica, with an entrancing sound. ENJOY!
Alias has really changed/evolved since his MCing days. He's still one of my favorite MCs but now hes making just these ambient music tracks now (I've even heard a song on a toyota commercial or something). Some of it is decent but I miss the old Alias.
PS- Has TL evolved to good/decent music tastes or are the Metal Heads just not posting in this thread?
Toad the Wet Sprocket - folk/alternative rock band that had some limited commercial success in the early 90s. Fear and Dulcinea are both very good albums.
Devin Townsend - I'm really not sure how to define his music. His work with Strapping Young Lad is extreme metal, but his solo stuff...progressive ambient industrial rock/metal I guess?
PS- You wouldn't happen to have the Mr.Lif and Insight song called Universal. Its fairly old (99?) and Its one of my favorite nostalgic songs of that era in my life. Its story-tale lyrics are so illustrative, its just a good song. I lost it and can't find it.
edit- well here is a video: but I still want the Mp3
Personally I think Insight does better in that song. Except for; "calculated time of arrival undefined destination is knowledge, it's a trip through the mind we've been assigned to give vision to the blind who cant find their way out of the terrible bind of course our arrival has been properly timed the moon is in place, the stars are aligned Mr.. Lif (and insight) have been combined to take us all (assault?) to a higher level of rhyme"
I wouldn't place Lif anywhere near my top 30 though. There are so many better. I only ever liked this song and Pulse Cannon.

btw do you use soulseek slsknet.org ? my ID is SpoR (case sensitive)
anytime man, anytime
soulseek? never heard if it. Please enlighten me
more hip-hop, tls gotta stop being 100% metal, no offense The Grouch, this guy got me into rap in the first place, especially the song artsy, see below.
alright i downloaded it, gimme a bit so i can figure out how to use this damn thing also, as far as the grouch goes, i think yardwork and breath are his best songs, but i really didnt feel like going through youtube for ages to find them...or even try for that matter.
I love Buckethead. It's like he makes you listen to a bunch of dumb shit (the beginning of this song) and just before you figure this guy is a total hack with some fancy pedals, he busts out some fucking wild shit and basically says "by the way im really good at guitar"
This song is stupid as hell (but very amusing) until about the 2:15 mark in this video. That's when the "Buckethead is super good at guitar" part starts.
