I figured it was time to make another one of these threads because i want to expand my music collection again. This is a thread to post music you really enjoy, but nothing too main stream please. i made one of these threads months ago; you can find the first one here:

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=67774

post either the youtube video or the myspace of the artist you like (please tell us which song to listen to if it's myspace). make sure you give a brief description of the artist as well.

i'll go first! this is a canadian artist Final Fantasy. he named himself after the game but his songs are not remixes of the games music. he plays a violin and has several pedals at his feet which are hooked up to different recorders. he plays a few notes then taps the pedal putting those notes on repeat. then he moves on to another part of the song, playing with the different notes he played previously, it's quite interesting to watch and impressively technical. give it a little over a minute to play before you draw any conclusions. enjoy!

http://kr.youtube.com/watch?v=_QG0Son49Mg

post some good stuff! there were some great artists posted in the previous thread! lets do it again DO NOT POST IF YOU CAN'T FIND A SAMPLE OF YOUR ARTISTS SONGS.

Start - Depapepe:
Two Japanese guys playing a very nice acoustic duet. Very uplifting, hence the name Start (I believe). Involves a very repetitive strumming pattern throughout the song, but with various solos, alternating with each player.

+ Show Spoiler +

Eve - California Guitar Trio
A very mellow, peaceful mix of two acoustics, a bass, and very light drums in the background. It's a nice song to really lay back and phase out to. I can't really place any specifics, but there is quite a bit of emotion, as how I percieve it.

+ Show Spoiler +

Baba Yetu - Stanford A Cappella
An amazing song, involving great three(?) part harmonies, and a male tenor as the main voice. It is an a cappella group. I read somewhere it is sung in Swahili, but I'm not sure. it is written by Christopher Tin. Very emotional, and has an uplifting spirit, but combined with a sort of passion.

Recently, I've been looking for some good Indy bands/songs. Anyone mind posting/PMing me songs?
EDIT: I realize how broad this request is. I don't care, send me anything!

EDIT2: Tasteless, do you mean to say I wrote these descriptions for nothing?

this is Alias. i really recommend clicking on the 3rd song: What You Gave Away. this guy has really laid back music but i really enjoy it. it's very peaceful electronica, with an entrancing sound. ENJOY!

Insomnium is sogood.gif, one of my favorite bands of all time.

I'd recommend a band called Loom, here's their myspace. A review on their page says "At the Drive in + Cursive", and I'd say that's pretty accurate. I'd recommend listening to Breath, it's my favorite song of theirs and it's overall a really good song. Surface is pretty damn good as well.

Loom is a finely oiled beast of a band :D
so in sync with each other lol

This is a very particular band called Nevermore. They've already been around a long time, and they have a very interesting style. The vocalist has an amazing range, from soft, high notes to growls. It's hard to categorize them, but progressive thrash metal probably fits best. This song is called Believe in Nothing. The lyrics are generally about political and social issues.

heh all that remains did a cover on that;
i generally didn't like their newer album though =/ was alright

Estradasphere http://www.myspace.com/estradasphere

There is no good youtube vids of them, I suggest listening to "Smuggled Mutation" and "The Return" as they are both great songs from their last album. EDIT: You can change the menu to the album "Palace of Mirrors" and play a much clearer version of "The Return". Many songs on that album are great but those are definitely the best two.

The band is best described as a country classical alternative jazz metal surf japanese psychedelic electronic progressive anti-progressive death metal gypsy scottish irish rock band. (I think that covers everything, a lot of their songs certainly cover half of that at any particular point)

EDIT2: Ahhh, eargasm.

Current band that I've recently gotten into and enjoy immensly is Godspeed You! Black Emperor. I really enjoy their style/genre of music, it really pulls me into what I'm listening too.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Blaise Bailey Finnegan III part 1

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Blaise Bailey Finnegan III part 2

Listening to this band also brought me to Explosions In The Sky. Along the same line as Godspeed You! Black Emperor but different, and I enjoy them a lot as well.

Explosions in the Sky - The Birth and Death of the Day

Of course a good music thread requires Muse, whom I hope needs no introduction. I really like their HAARP Tour: Live from Wembley DVD(although I unfortunatly don't have it myself >< ), it's quite good.

Hey

i was going to post a john coltrane video, but his name comes up enough i thought (its my username lol) so i thought id try some other stuff

This is marcus miller:
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=NHdN_O5k3WM

hes an electric jazz bassist, among other things, and imo a very talented player. i dont know much about him apart from his solo stuff and his work with SMV, but hes got a great thumb style and i think he really kicks ass especially in the fusion genres. definetely check him out if you like the funky sort of bass (well not as funky as larry, but still)

This is SMV:
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=DHnvq6DjpQ4

They are a bass trio of marcus miller, stan clarke and mr wooten. they are great, they have just released a new album called Thunder and its GREAT!!! i loved it. again, if you liike marcus milller check them out

JOHN COLTRANE!
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=I_n-gRS_wdI&feature=related

What can i say, maybe the greatest sax of all time? definetely one of best jazz players, his improv style was absolutely incredible, he was able to use one single lick or phrase from the head and just change it around and solo for so long, its incredible.

last one, possibly one of my favourite guitarists, JOE PASS!
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=JFqiDcvRW2Y

i love joe, i love his chord melody style, i love his swing, i love his sad/mellow tone, and i love how he could play just the right number of notes without wankery and overdoing it. when i hear that walking bass and those chords, i just float into another plane, its so great

ill post some more later, please check them out. oh btw, they are all jazz or jazz-related
