For now it's just a repeat of the 2008 promise.

The keyword "eventually" is because they can't join whilst in the middle of a war. Russian Nuclear threat aside, that's a rule NATO has as well. This is basically a "You can join when the war is over" promise. Remember, NATO wasn't against Ukraine joining pre-crimea either. It was Ukraine themselves who pulled out. Hungary being Hungary is nothing new. As with the acceptance of Finland and Sweden, it's just a political game of "How can I be the most annoying?" before they eventually cave. It's just going through the motions at this point

This is basically a "You can join when the war is over" promise. You forgot the territorial dispute clause as well. Unless the war ends with ukraine taking back all of their territory, to join nato they would be forced to rescind any claims to territory still occupied by russia. Its a nice statement, but I am with pmp10 here, I think its way too soon to read too much into it. For now its just a statement, and not a very binding statement at that. If he had said ukraine would join as soon as the war ends, that would have been a strong statement, but that is probably not possible, and instead the whole formality and voting process will have to take place after the war ends. Its good for morale and PR though.

It's high time for the offensive to take place. Rumors are that it's slowly building up, but nothing confirmed.

My regular sources which provide daily reports from war dont mention any increase in fighting outside of Bachmut area. It seems that Ukrainians have crossed the Dnieper and are establishing forward positions there. Estonian DM claims that the counter-offensive will begin in earnest in about a month when the soil is more stable. Right now it's just too wet and muddy making it hard to advance.

I, for one, am very interested in the point of view from a logical, well-thinking, non-western observer. Tnx! I second that! People from different nationalities sharing information/perspectives about the war is the reason I keep returning to this thread. We all consume news sources that are biased/filtered in some way, and this thread is a welcome addition to that. Ardias, I can understand that explaining the Russian perspective is an ungrateful job. It's bound to trigger a lot of knee-jerk reactions. Just know that you sharing the Russian perspective is very much appreciated.

https://warontherocks.com/2023/04/the-calm-before-the-storm-waiting-for-ukraines-offensive/ Cavoli stated that Ukraine and its Western allies calculated how much equipment Kyiv would require for the counteroffensive, after which Ukraine's partners began supplying it. The general said that over 98% of the promised combat vehicles had already arrived in Ukraine, and also acknowledged the "generosity" of allies in supplying tanks and armored combat vehicles. "I am absolutely confident that we have delivered the material they need, and we will continue to work to support their operations," said Cavoli. According to Cavoli, the results of simulated wargames, conducted jointly with the Ukrainians, indicate that Kyiv’s forces are "in a good position" for a successful counteroffensive against Russian troops occupying Ukrainian territory. On April 21st, the 11th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group took place at the U.S. Air Force Ramstein base in Germany. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced the participants had agreed to intensify supplies of air defense systems and ammunition to Ukraine. The head of the Pentagon also reported that over the past several months, Ukraine’s partners have transferred over 230 tanks and more than 1,550 armored vehicles, considerably bolstering Kyiv’s ability to counter Russian aggression.
