Also, as always, they could have a ceasefire. And a complete end of hostilities. They just would need to move their soldiers out of Ukraine, and no one would be shooting anymore.

They don't get a reprieve from saint HIMARS on whatever holiday they feel like. you reap what you sow.

They can either call Ukraine evil for not taking it, or could possibly still send attacks. I totally get why Ukraine would not trust this was an "honest" request given everything that has happened. Hell they are still arr npt admiting they invaded. Well, they didn't! That thing in Kiev was a special military operation, not an invasion. As for Kherson, Luhansk, etc... it's Russia! They passed a law, so it's Russia, therefore not an invasion either! Obviously!

If we wanna go deeper - I'd say every celebration is optional assuming we got a freedom of choice. Cannot answer for every person in Ukraine as the answer will be different depending on age/social class/education, but there are a few observations which helps to feel the trend and general understanding of what is happening. I would say we are experiencing more significant shift towards western christmas for nearly a decade already, the biggest factor is demography. For the older generation orthodox christmas matters as number 2 holiday by importance, and honestly, I've no idea why, since those people were mostly born and raised in the USSR, where religion was considered as a poison for the peoples mind for many years. For the folks ~40 and younger western christmas can be closer already due to the influence and connections to the western culture/people, at the same time we are celebrating eastern christmas with our parents together (older gens), since this holiday is connected with the family unity. So it's a mixture of both at the moment and it's changing with time Doubt anyone in their mind will support a ceasefire in current conditions

My suspicion is that they’re in a bad state and that it would be very embarrassing to send them to Ukraine without tracks, with just one working gear (reverse), and with turrets that can’t rotate. Ukraine would say “wtf is this, some kind of bad joke” and Germany would have to publicly at that their military was a joke. If you don’t plan on using your tanks anytime soon it’s easy to let things slip.

Additionally, the weather in Ukraine is finally going to consistently be well below freezing, so next week will probably see the start of a major counteroffensive. Given how much Ukraine's been bombing Russian positions, I don't expect them to be able to have any sort of meaningful response besides retreat or die. And here's today's aid confirmed to go to Ukraine. US is sending the money and Bradleys, with Germany sending the Marders and surprisingly, a Patriot battery

Afaik, NYE is much bigger than Christmas in both Russian and Ukraine, and is considered the main holiday. This is just a PR stunt by Putin.

I think just from these strikes alone is well over 1000 people. https://twitter.com/NOELreports/status/1611092083128819752 Ukrainian MoD updates show 2300 troops lost for the Russians in the last 3 days. Probably also counting the wounded as it all totals over 109k to date.
