nah, i think he has done some good things and some bad things. it has not been a disaster. He did a good job with the Mexican border. Iran is a debacle. for full time working Americans things are ok.,. not great.. not a disaster. I am floored by the amount of nationalism Trump has created in Canada.
Trump gave 4859487 hours of talks, interviews, and speeches during his massive election campaign and never mentioned Canada or Iran once. After getting elected.. that's all he talks about. LOL.
I would argue the Iran war is likely to be viewed as one of the best things he did from a long term perspective. It highlights the reliance on fossil fuels by cutting supply lines and increases prices. That it also hollows out the long term trend of freedom of the seas will likely decrease global trade. Both of these will probably combat global warming more than the US pulling out of the treaties on the topic.
On the other side he also pulled out of US aid missions that will and have killed a lot of people. That means the global warming impact of those people is reduced.
As global warming is the most important global topic it can probably be seen as a decent presidency. If you think some other topic is more important it is probably a bad presidency but on this topic it might be decent.

You'll still have to scroll past all the repeated calls from a half dozen people to not reply to him, and about the same group making a reply just to troll or insult. The prevalence of this kind of repeated interaction apparently led the entire website's volunteer moderation team to give up and leave the thread, or know better than to try.
So it'll have to ignore his posts, every post that quote replies to his posts, and frankly every post that mentions his name. Someone go write a script for that.
Yeah, that went about as well as I imagined.
Ironically, if anyone did it, they'd probably figure out the (piss-poor shitpost spam from the) "opposition" for lols does far more to propagate the oBlade/JJR style nonsense than the oBlade/JJR types themselves. As the last dozen or so pages clearly demonstrate this observable fact.
How is it an observable fact?
I don’t really understand your wider political strategy which seems to be entirely ignoring dissenting voices entirely and just settling on whatever you think is a good idea
I mean LS and oBlade just gave us another example of how that works and how if LS ignored oBlade instead, oBlade wouldn't have used LS's shitpost response to continue propagating their bs.
The previous dozen or so pages clearly demonstrate this observable fact/pattern repeatedly exhibited by multiple users.
As opposed to how people habitually ignore discussing actually interesting political posts like this

You mentioned Green new deal, that wouldn't have happened if progressives haven't rallied around Bernie, Bernie being in the main stream and being who he is also helped rise the profiles of many other lefties, which made their presence more felt in Congress helping achieve and push towards more progressive goals.
So my cynical view is that everyone should rally around AOC, watch her get shafted by establishment, most likely get a good cabinet seat or a VP spot and then maybe, hopefully the pendulum swings back to about as far left as US can muster and she gets elected to the top spot in 2032.
that could actually be interesting and useful to discuss (and easily make oBlade type posts irrelevant). Especially compared to shitposting for lols or hiding under the delusion that those shitposts are somehow convincing to people that would otherwise be susceptible to believing/supporting oBlade types and their politics.
What makes you think people's posting here has anything meaningful to do with a considered "wider political strategy"? People have been very adamant about this place being for hobbyist escapism, not actual political organizing/discussion.
Yeah, GH, perhaps folks would be more willing to engage with you + Show Spoiler +
if you engaged with reality that Democrats and Republicans aren't really comparable.
One is, as of right now a cult of personality centered around one of the worse people alive, a cult that jettisoned all of it's populist policy preferences and does nothing but blindly do whatever Trump says.
The second one is a flawed conglomerate of various factions that have one solid thing in common, they aren't fascists and they want things to go back to normal.
Of course, there are factions that would like a new normal, there are ones that would continue the regression back down the Overton window slide until there is literally no difference between the old "classic" Republicans and them.
Continuously, insisting that anyone who doesn't find Democrats just as bad or very slightly better then Republicans annoys and alienates everyone.
That is my analysis based on my feelings on engaging with you on various topics, I probably misconstrued most folks here but I think the logic holds for at least a good section of us.
I didn't even post for like a week, this isn't about me (this idea that it is about interaction with me is such a weird way to try to avoid reality at this point). It was literally your post about what people that want Republicans to lose/make the US suck less can do to help make that a reality that was ignored.
The demonstrably undeniable fact is that doesn't really interest (or isn't a top priority for) people here (despite its ostensible/purported importance to them). Here, people just want to do the hobbyist escapism shitposting on the internet because they get a feeling of superiority shitposting about people/mock and gawking and that's easier/more gratifying for them than actually doing political work (Bernie had tons of indispensable international support btw).
If me voting for a Democrat actually had any value to anyone (besides them shitposting/making stuff up about it) they'd happily take up the opportunity for us all (with or without me) to collectively find someone to rally around and make a meaningful difference through.
Also, I can't emphasize enough how when you actually do political work in the US, you quickly find out that dyhb is more representative of the Democrat party as an organization than anyone arguing with dyhb.

It remains to be seen if the emissions drop from losing the Iran War will be largely off-set by reviving coal and sabotaging wind/solar on the American grid, especially since power usage is dramatically rising because of data centers for LLM companies.
Also, intervening in South American politics to help far-right parties that want to destroy the Amazon.

Didn’t he put through the bi partisan bill he blocked to help his election chances?
It’s a lot closer to all bad than you described. And that’s even true if you only talk about the conservative agenda.
its negative but not a disaster. i think the polls accurately reflect Trump's performance. heavy inflation cycles of the past can't usually be attributed directly to the actions of the sitting President. This current inflation absolutely is caused by Trump's moves.
Without all this tariff BS and Iran conflict the US Economy would prolly be rockin' right now. Part of that latent potential is Trump's correct moves. When the next person is elected they'll stop the insanity and the economy will improve.

If people have been adamant on that point why are you expecting them to be political advocates?
I live thousands of miles away, so do many.
You still can’t concede that Trump getting in was a fucking disaster and just criticise Dems all the time and seemingly expect that to land with people, it’s preposterous
I don't expect them to.
And yet here you all are.
Trump getting in was absolutely a disaster.
I criticize Democrats from the left because otherwise that (obviously necessary to have any hope of averting the next Trump) perspective wouldn't really be present here.
How did any of your invective remotely help to avert a Trump?
I don’t even like the Democrats but spending 90% of your posting time in the leadup to an election was meant to keep Trump out?
Elizabeth Holmes documentary by Nathan Fielder. It provides a deep, ruthless look into specific aspects of American culture, particularly surrounding corporate greed, Silicon Valley myth-making, and the current day obsession with wealth and reinvention.
I recommend this documentary. It comes out October 16. I will probably catch it during the NYFF which goes to October 12.
Elizabeth Holmes' prison sentence began May 30, 2023. She is due out in 2032.

This is an asinine question.
My point since before the 2016 primary has been that in order to stop Trump (and the next iterations) Democrats have to be better (as a consequence of their supporters demanding it) rather than have their sycophants and useful idiots demand their voters perpetually lower their needs/demands/expectations.
I don't consider it a tactic so much as an unassailable observation of reality.

When criticized GH will fall back to "of course Republicans are worse, I'm just criticizing Democrats because I want them to be better" which is uncontroversial among everyone (non-MAGAt) here. So people extend an olive branch in good faith to them, and a few posts later they do stuff like uncritically repeat Republican talking points (or even literally post Republican ads), compare Kamala Harris to Adolf Hitler, call Democrats cowards that would eat Joe Biden's shit straight from his ass just because he's not Trump. When someone then reasonably asks how that's helping improve the Democratic Party they link back to their own posts, call you a petulant shitposter, make up stuff you didn't say, or even will just write "lol wut?". Repeat ad infinitum.
