There was a bit on NPR about how Google, etc. have until now resisted any sort of filtering tech, because they know if they have it people will demand it. But apparently Google may be doing something so they can get into the Chinese market. Could be an interesting development.

Among all of these, the ones who have hopped on the Trump train with the most commitment are the ones who started out extremely skeptical of Trump. The ones who told me how "he's just an idiot looking for publicity, we need a real leader like ____" are the ones who have completely surrendered to Trump and are able to see every single thing he does as calculated and proper. It is interesting, but not entirely surprising. Conservatives hold hierarchy as a somewhat supreme ideal. Fear of god, surrendering to the church, unconditional protection of elders or "community figures" are all typical behaviors of conservatives.
You know Mad Max? It's kind of like that. When the main characters bring the dead body of their former leader to their city at the end of the movie, everyone cheers for their new leader. I feel like the same thing happened with Trump for many of these people. There is some psychological mechanism at play where once someone becomes their leader, they are suddenly significantly less fallible than they were only moments before. Because this person is their leader, he is great.
Anyone else noticed anything like this? Or maybe instead of all that baseless psychobabble, we simply see that Trump is delivering what we want? What is Trump delivering that we you want?

Most conservatives I know don't exactly support most of what Trump is doing but like to give the line "He is our president now so we have to support him and pray for him so he does better". Tho most of the ones I know are of the religious wing.

Dunno why people like Sargon or Vox Day. Even if you subscribe to their views they are so shit at presenting their views that they actually damage them.

That he won rejecting violence and rage while accepting that he would die for it. That his actions with the Emperor didn’t matter. The SJWs of the world understood those movies and took something from them that wasn’t space wizards with super powers fighting with laser swords.
And SJWs also created the Expanse, which is top tier sci-fi. Ex Machine, Annihilation, fuck even District 9. Sci-fiction is the world of the SJW, looking for futures beyond the banal culture wars and to ask and say interesting things about humanity and identity. You might need to consider your taste in sci-fi are basic as fuck.

Does it count as proving their point when they made all the same screaming noises about Episode 7 and that was a smash hit that managed to get people to watch Episode 8 despite a piss-poor audience reception and Rogue One despite being a critical 7.5/10 average and having huge reshoot problems?
Or is this one of those "if they're right one of the times they predict something that's all we should pay attention to" deals a la Austrian economics? Or maybe we should only judge the success of movies based on their downstream impact when it's convenient to make our point and not otherwise?

It depends upon how you want to look at it. Episode 7 was still fundamentally a Star Wars movie despite the cosmetic deviations. Episode 8 was where the significant deviation occurred.

Speaking of SJW's, what do y'all think of the NY Times latest editorial board hire? Does anyone think that this is going to do anything to defuse Trump's charge that the press is the enemy of the people?

The NYT editorial staff finally took some time off from writing emotion profiles of white nationists and Nazis and hired someone to provide some balance. They can give her a desk next to David Brooks and he can write how confused he is by her strange young person ways.

I don't even see where the gray could be. This woman legitimately hates white people. If you replaced "white" with "black" in any of those tweets, the NYT would have already fired her career into the sun.

TLJ seemed to be Rian Johnson deciding to burn/ ignore all the plot elements that JJ Abrams established in TFA. TFA was derivative as hell, but I was largely okay with it as a way to get people back into Star Wars and set up the trilogy's larger story arc.
Personally, I hated the subplot with Rose, Admiral Holdo was a dumb character, but I wouldn't say those sort of things ruined TLJ. Those were just a couple of a dozen different things that made it a incoherent mess of a movie.

But, at least she didn’t imply that white people were vermin.
And for the record, I dislike the NYT editorial section. I write them two – three grumpy emails/letters a year, like an old man complaining to his local paper. I’ll write one special just for you.

Solo tanked beacuse of.how much people hated it. Luke wasn't a coward afraid to take responsibility for the monsters he set lose on the universe. The casino planet storyline will be forever referenced as what a colossal waste of time is. Mary poppins out of nowhere and the nonsense of the luke death scene should have been the height of terrible decisions the movie made until they randomly killed the only villian with credibility and told everyone blankly that their hero was a mary sue and they put less work into her character then the person who owned the helmet she was wearing in the first movie.
God forbid we talk about how space combat is forever now and retroactively ruined in the property for the sake of a single shot. SJWs didn't create scifi they ruin everything they touch beacuse they inherently don't understand basic storytelling. If they did they wouldn't let their passion for social justice get in the way of a good story. That's the difference between SJWs and regular people who want equality.
