There are candidates I align with more than Harris but I am happy with Harris as a VP pick. I think she raises Biden’s the chance trump isn’t president

Wait you can't think of examples of Trump blatant misrepresenting facts? How about when he took a sharpie to the weather map to include states he said but it didn't? And the weather station had to put out messages to stop people from boarding up their windows and evacuating their houses. Or the time he told people injecting themselves with bleach was a good idea. Or all the bull shit on hydroxychloroquine. Or that Twitter had to put messages next to his untrue tweets. And so on and so forth. The guy is such a compulsive liar it is hard to keep up with them!

edit: googling trump lies will bring up almost and endless about of articles about it because he does it so bloody much it hard to remember specific ones. He might actually lie more than he tells the truth.

It's hard to keep up on the lies, and the *helpful* lies about the lies. The spin was he told people to inject themselves with bleach, the truth is he wondered if scientists should investigate ultraviolet light or disinfection as possible research areas.

It's still bad, but it's sad that in this day and age you can't trust secondary reporting to get the actual story. People still believe Sarah Palin said she could see Russia from her house.

That is not true, and some of his supporters did and ended up in ER's. If you want to dispute something don't just make it up, cite it. As you notice in the quote above, it was a bunch of stupid rambling inaccurate shit, as per the normal.

Look up the quote and respond. This is factually untrue.

I did, maybe you should. There is also a video attached. The close up of the doctors face is priceless, she cannot believe what a moron he is!

https://globalnews.ca/news/6862555/coronavirus-disinfectant-donald-trump/

“I see that disinfectant, it knocks it out. In a minute. One minute,” Trump said at the briefing, before turning at the lectern to Birx, who was sitting on the sidelines of the news conference. Birx could be seen smiling, tight-lipped, as Trump pitched his theories to her in front of a national audience.

“And is there a way that we can do something like that, by injection inside or, or, almost a cleaning?” Trump said, directing his words at Birx. “Because you see, it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number … so it’d be interesting to check.”

I'd appreciate an apology. Your dear leader is simply as stupid as we all think he is.

"A question that probably some of you are thinking of if you’re totally into that world, which I find to be very interesting. So, supposedly we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light, and I think you said that hasn’t been checked, but you’re going to test it. And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. (To Bryan) And I think you said you’re going to test that, too. Sounds interesting, right?"

"And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning, because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that, so that you’re going to have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me. So, we’ll see, but the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute. That’s pretty powerful."

Politifact

I am looking for people that can say "What Trump said was bad, he's said other bad things, but he didn't say that."

People that can't stomach even that small admission are blind partisans. Maybe not forever into the future, but in that moment, a blind partisan.

You are really splitting hairs if you think that Trump saying he thought it was a good idea to test injecting people with bleach and ultraviolet light. Is not suggesting people should do it. Because people took it that way and lots of ER's had to deal with it. Also, if you listen to the video in the article I posted it is clearly not sarcastic.

For a guy who likes to claim everyone else is not partisan this is a blatantly partisan opinion of yours. It is really quite laughable.

Trump spit balls with scientists to research using UV light and disinfectant internally to kill the virus
Trump told people injecting themselves with bleach was a good idea

Yeah it's a partisanship test: If you think the difference between them is splitting hairs, you're a blind partisan. I corrected Wombat_NI and it launched a discussion into the news sensationalizing real quotes. Test passed.

I rate Trump's intelligence higher than anybody that says instructing supporters to take bleach is the same as asking scientists to research something stupid. He says stupid shit all the time, he makes shit up all the time, and some people justify making up stuff to fit their goals.

You're living in a dream world. Look at his doctors face, actually watch the video. He is not only "spit balling" some extraordinarily stupid ideas, but he is also saying it is good. It is not Dems that are poisoning themselves btw.

And no studies were done on these really good, spitballing ideas, because everybody with a decent IQ and even a little bit grounded in reality knows they were some of the stupidest ideas ever. Not to mention anyone with any sense wouldn't spit ball really stupid ideas publicly during a press conference, hell they wouldn't do it with good ideas either. It is a inappropriate time because people within the cult of Trump are going to do it, to try to prove him right.

It is also really silly for you to call a bunch of people not from the US partisan. None of us vote Dem, we are outsiders that simply see that right now one party is living in reality and one is living in a stupid fantasy land created by Trump. It is pure idiocy.

I'm really supposed to look at the doctor's face, and conclude that telling his supporters to inject themselves with bleach is splitting hairs compared to asking doctors to look into a research area that's probably bunk? Just step away, man. It aint worth it.

I'm not chasing you down every possible rabbit hole if you confuse apples with oranges from the outset. You're learning too much from GH.

The guy doesn't understand the least bit that people are listening to his every word, and acting upon hearing those. That those guys might be idiots that would ingest bleach is not the issue. Him not caring, as a leader, is the main issue.

Him publicly putting at risk, by his recklessness and ignorance, people's lives, means he is thoroughly unfit to be a leader. The worst is he doesn't even realize it, even though he must have been told dozens of times. This means one thing : he is willing to put lives under the bus to feel smart (the fact that he looks like an idiot doing so is the cherry on top). It's a defective human being to have as a leader, and he wouldn't last one week as an army officer (where good leaders lead by exemple).

The exact wording he used, that he has become a master at, is irrelevant. His every word and action is about "I was told", "they say", etc. It's an habit he has to deflect any possible criticism off his person. It doesn't make him less responsible. He might not have said "bleach is good, ingest it", but that's the message that a fair quantity of idiots receive, because he is the fucking president and people are supposed to treat his words seriously.

I really wouldn't like a president where we have to repeat 5 times a day "just don't listen to him, he didn't think it through".
It's not about taking lessons from GH or chasing chimeras. It's just a basic thing : he doesn't think, and most of all, he doesn't care about any consequences of his actions or words.

First attack ad is up. It was obviously made before the leak of the pick, but there were few candidates on the short list, so easy to do an ad for each.

I grant the reader that most of the people around here think former support for Medicare for All is a good thing she did, rather than something to attack her on.

Smart on Biden going full cop. Progressives will grumble but not leave, independents will be less scared about Dems being soft on crime and violence. I love all the ironies, but it was probably his best choice.

I agree that you must think the words he uses are irrelevant to arrive at the conclusions you reach here. So long as you don’t lie and double down on what he actually said, I’m not going to say no stupid person is going to pick that topic to poison himself over. People also thought Obama was going to pay off their mortgage, and masks still don’t work because that’s what health professionals said at the outset.

But this is kind of about normal people confronting falsehoods, but justifying it in the case of Trump. Your post gives no clear admission that it’s what happened. I don’t care what you think about him, I care that you can rise above the partisanship and spot an actual lie. He didn’t say it. So please acknowledge it if I should ever consider your posts to be coming from understanding and a rational mind. It shouldn’t be shifting goalposts on dumb people not knowing what research areas are, as pathetic of an excuse as it is.

Read the statement, comprehend the statement, and do the “but he shouldn’t have said it for the following reasons” after you’ve convinced me you’re not going to call lies truths when it suits you. I know enough Q-anons and this is reaching that.

A fantastic final reason to not vote for Biden now. Great, I've spent too long trying to convince myself to vote for him, now I can dispense with the notion and just write in Fuck You or something.

I wish I didn't live in PA. I have to put up with this shit because of RBG...

He did NOT say "ingest bleach". He did say "bleach looks good against covid, it cleans it fast, please doctors, can you investigate if there's a way to clean lungs with bleach". Some people will feel it's avant-gardiste to do what he says should be tried.
Since he doesn't speak proper english, and since he's the president, AND is (though contradictory) a master at wording himself as if he, himself, can never be held responsible for anything he says, I am not looking at the exact words but the message it sends.

It's pretty clear he is a zero at science, and he should know people listen to his word, and are not all "smart" people with PhD (I mean, we are talking about the country with people microwaving their cat to dry it, and suing the company because it was not expressly written that you shouldn't do that in the manual), he should know best than to say this kind of thing, but people WILL misinterpret it. However, he doesn't care.

Did I, at any point in my 2 posts, lie about what he said ? His whole defense is based on deflection and about how he didn't say it or meant something else of course. How many times has it been ?

And for other posters who wanted blatant lies, just take the "We've gotten billions from China with the tariffs". These are extra paid by american people. Some chinese companies might have lowered their prices to try and stay competitive, however that's probably not the majority, and the extra money is still paid by american clients. At best it lowers the trade deficit a little, and products made in the US are still more expensive to consumers.
It's a plain lie. It just doesn't work as he asserts it does.

I pointed out to Wombat the actual quote, and he was asking researchers to check into UV light and disinfectant for internal use. He had said that Trump told people injecting themselves with bleach was a good idea. That’s is a lie no matter how many “but it was still bad/show of bad intelligence for him to say it” you want to append after the statement. I’ve already yielded the Appeal to the Existence of Stupid People point that everybody wants to make. Can you read the nested quoted in context slowly and reach the same conclusion I did, and maybe three others here? We can get into all the attendant bad effects (if you really want to) if we can read the same thing *IN CONTEXT* and decide true/false on the claim. Otherwise, why bother? Truth and falsehood should exist independent of the speaker, and I’m not so hot on people who grade Democrats and Republicans on two different dictionaries of the English language.

No that wasn’t me, I presume it’s Jimmy you’re referring to there.

My position on that quote was it was idea spitting stream of consciousness from the Donald and showcased the breathtaking arrogance of the man that this was a suggestion that scientists hadn’t pondered, and contrasted it with his frequent obstinacy in actually doing what scientists suggest, like wearing masks being a good idea, or not hawking completely unproven treatments.

Remember when Trump said he witnessed Muslims celebrating as 9/11 went down?

Which absolutely of course happened, all them sneaky Muslims. Even as a mere 11 year old at the time, starting ‘big school’ and being ushered to watch the news footage, my abiding memory of the time was utter confusion over what actually happened for many an hour.

Nobody knew what the fuck was going down (in the general populace anyway), so how would Muslims even know that jihadis were the culprits in near real time?

And why would American Muslims at large celebrate such a heinous event anyway?

There were people that were cheering on the other side of New Jersey, where you have large Arab populations. They were cheering as the World Trade Center came down. I know it might be not politically correct for you to talk about it, but there were people cheering as that building came down — as those buildings came down. And that tells you something. It was well covered at the time, George. Now, I know they don’t like to talk about it, but it was well covered at the time. There were people over in New Jersey that were watching it, a heavy Arab population, that were cheering as the buildings came down. Not good

I specifically remember video footage that day of people (in other countries) cheering, and it was allegedly as they learned that that the U.S. had been struck by a devastating attack. I'm not defending Trump's claims but there was footage to that effect played shortly after the events, regardless of the actual religion of anyone.

In other countries aye. Wires get crossed, things get misremembered.

It is worth noting that Trump made that particular quote after being challenged for saying:

Hey, I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down. And I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey, where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering.

Now, this isn’t some Mandela effect watching on TV thing. His altered claim that I quoted is bad enough, his original claim is that he personally witnessed thousands of people doing this in New Jersey.

If my location above my name isn’t a giveaway, I’m a remote viewer of all things American, and I’m viewing what’s going on your side of the Atlantic through media. I think crossed wires with a wall-to-wall news coverage and mistaking celebrations around the world for Americans doing it is still a stretch but plausible.

My abiding memory of seeing the celebrations and my young self pondering why people in the Middle East were celebrating, and a few years later with Iraq and Afghanistan knowing exactly why.

It is a inappropriate time because people within the cult of Trump are going to do it, to try to prove him right.

https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/04/25/845015236/nyc-poison-control-sees-uptick-in-calls-after-trumps-disinfectant-comments

Edit. Not worth.

Seeing too many ‘edit not worths’ for my tastes these days! First Erasme now you!

Granted my not editing has lead to a few temp bans (rightly) so you may be on to something.

My Dad is pretty happy with the Harris pick. Wonder if she appeals to boomer generation? I don't have strong feelings about her either way, except she seems a million times better than any aspect of the current administration. I understand some of the ideological qualms but it would be nice to have just some basic *competence* again.

It's just mental gymnastic to prove that everyone is bad, thus voting partisan is the way to go.
If his inflammatory tweets won't change your mind, or the gutting of the USPS 3months before the election, or any other blatant abuse of power, then what's the point. Que sera, sera eh

The pick doesn't surprise me. Definitely not my choice, but that was the case since Biden got the nom. My hope is that it's a tactical decision to pull at certain voting blocs that otherwise would've gone to Trump. Not holding my breath, but.

There will be people that come around to voting for Kamala's ticket because they can imagine her being a character on Law and Order: SVU.

She ain't a boomer. Much better than the last pick Tim Kaine who is pretty much irrelevant today.

One overlooked aspect about her is shes also going to be first (half) Asian american to be on a presidential ticket.
