What is your dream job? Regardless how improbable, what do you want to do for the majority of your life?
I want to be a musician. I'm probablynot going to get a stable job with that, so I settled with becoming a Mechanical Engineer. Well I intend to, at least. But I don't feel right about my choice, and I kind of still want to do music.
What do you guys want to do for a job? Will you follow your dreams, or embrace reality and do what's equitable and stable?
Poll: Will your job follow your dreams or be a "realistic" choice? (Vote): I'm gonna follow my dreams. (Vote): I'm gonna do what's realistic and put food on my plate. (Vote): A little bit of both. (Vote): I'm living off my inheritance.
I've had a mixed reaction to this question by many adults (middle-aged). Those that are successful tell me to do what I enjoy doing, as they themselves aren't too pleased day-to-day. Those that took a risk caution against it, since they are job hunting or in school again.

I'll be content with almost anything.

I've always wanted to be a game designer. However since doing a course in design, specifically involving computers, I've come to appreciate design in general and would be happy enough doing it. I still have the goal of being a game designer, I've just had my horizons broadened to the point where I'm willing to 'settle for less' so to speak.
|
Heh, I'm still trying to figure this out. My dream job would be to be a cartoonist, but that's a really bad way to make money. My "realistic" but good job would be to go to grad school, get a phD, and then get some sort of engineering job.

I too wanted to become a pilot ever since I was a small child. I turn 18 this year, and in October I'll be leaving for South Carolina to start my ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) course.
I'm all set, and just can't wait!

My realistic job will be aligned with my "dream" job
|
taking over parents business, so im on my way .
the only other two would to be a surgeon (but 8 12 god knows how many years of school is too much for me) or an indy car driver =D
|
i'm realistic in what I can do. engineering puts food on the table
|
but isnt "dream job" already "unrealistic"?
then the two questions should be seperate.
a) what would your dream job be? movie star, rock star, model, designer etc etc
b) what job are you aiming for in the future? architect, economics etc etc
|
My goal is to be a doctor. Not because my parents are pushing me to be one so they can live off me, but because I care a lot of others. I would probably be one of the first doctors going into hard-hit places such as Sri Lanka or Sudan.
But if this was fantasy, Jedi Knight

absolutely not. some people never aspire for that is really out of reach. u dont have to be making millions for it to be a dream job.

I miss the "I don't have dreams" option, which I would give, were it available.

Professor/Dean of Medicine or similar at a large university.
Rigth now I love learning about medicine, I don't intend to stop when I'm finished. The question is just how many degrees I can pile up on the first one(s) and thus how much research I can get done. Which would decide which university I could end up in.
I'd be happy teaching prospective young dentist or premed students all day with a bit of research on the side but I'd prefer to get an MD or perhaps a masters in biotech as well because other stuff in the body is intresting as well.

My "dream job" is to be a house dad and have the wife be the one to go out and work and bring home the money and everything while I tend to the house and kids. Not very realistic I don't think, but that'd be life (and not just to be lazy, I would take pride in being a house dad and do my "job" well).

Self employed entrepreneur in real estate.
Basically, I buy houses way below market value and sell them at market value. How I do this is complicated.
It's fun because I am in the process of building my business step by step and having a great time doing it. I work my own hours and have no boss. Within a few years I will have a business system that buys and sells homes without me being personally involved.
Plus, each transaction brings home quite a pretty penny.

Both !
(obviously i'll follow my dreams if possible..)

I want to be a music producer and produce the biggest hip hop artists, and also try to make something together with a friend of mine, who's a decent rapper and he's pretty good at writing lyrics aswell. I think it's a realistic goal because I know I'm talented enough, only question is if I'm ready to put in the effort that's needed. I've had alot of dreams of what I'm going to be when I get older, and this is my latest. But this is the only time I've felt that I could really do this.
|
Dream job is cartoonist. I'm old enough to have already settled on a realistic job, and it's no fun at all. I never really figured that whoring out my labor to make complete strangers rich would be so horrible. But in those moments when I have the opportunity and inclination to consider it, it feels rotten. It sucks that someone I don't know, and who undoubtedly lives much more comfortably than I do, gets to syphon away the fruits of my endeavors, and the only legal thing I can do about it is beg for a larger percentage of what my labor is worth (ask for a raise). But that's US capitalism for ya. Wage slavery, CEOs that write their own paycheck and stock spectulators who're gamblers at heart; meanwhile the wage slaves feed and fuel the whole system, doubling as underpaid, interchangable labor and the consumer market. The whole thing's pretty depressing.
I wanted to be a cartoonist because I wanted to make a living communicating exactly what I wanted to communicate in a way that people enjoyed enough to pay to see. Film and music you have to give other people creative input. Painting, sculpture and the other 1-man visual artforms are even more difficult to make a living with than cartooning, and by the nature of their mediums, any message you tell is going to be vague. Writing is pretty precise, but I'm not confident that I write well enough to tell a story that way, and self-publishing a novel seems to be a huge pipe-dream (writing novels, like working in the film or music industries, is being a creative wage slave).
At this point I'd consider it a "dreamjob" to be doing any manner of self-employed work. Earning exactly the amount of money that my labor is worth seems like a fantasy worth exploring, even if I don't communicate anything worthwhile whatsoever. Still, in the back of my brain I think about cartooning-- making comics and communicating to a sheet of paper words and images that an audience will eventually read.

Professional track & field athlete. I'm training hard for a year to see if I can achieve the times I need to pursue it further. If I don't make it, I want to be a criminal defense lawyer. If my professional running career doesn't earn enough money to last my lifetime, I'd be happy going to law school in my 30's and becoming a lawyer then.

Dream probably to be part of the Special Boat Service (SBS) - trained hard to join Royal Marines but forced to pull out with a back injury. Pay sucks anyway but it is obviously not a job you join for the money.

I'm going to be a wandering hobo with my fiance for a lot of my life, after getting a college degree in primary education. We're going to be pretty poor, but we're also going to be out in the world, seeing all those places that people sit at home looking at pictures of, daydreaming about how nice it'd be to have done.
Also, we aren't going to have kids (she hates kids) so we aren't going to have that responsibility/money drain. It's just going to be a long adventure for us, ending with settling down in some random place we decide seems perfect.
That's my dream job. Professional hobo.

Hmm off the top of my head, more types of splash (especially friendly splash), spells/abilities to change unit damage type / armor class, making air combat more dynamic (possibly adding mid flyers and high flyers which would do % damage to each other), making terrain more variable (instead of cover and high ground, add bonus for partial cover and heght differences), altering the scout, ghost, dt, valkerye.
There's really too much to list it all, it's like a 20 page document.

Dream job: designer of very different projects: - build one computer game - write one book - design one large building - make one piece of furniture - make one painting
Impossible, of course, but some of them i could do in my spare time. However, i don't think i'll be satisfied with the quality of what i made so i'll never release/show it.

I once had goals of being a neurosurgeon or something to do with the medical field, but most of goals and dreams came into perspective after working 2 summers in a train wheel factory. I'm currently enrolled in college with only a year left majoring in computer science and now my dream job consists of:
-Something that I enjoy and don't mind doing for the rest of my life -Something that can pay the bills and allow for a few extra activities occassionaly -Most important I want a day shit 5 day a week job so that I can spend the most amount of time w/ my wife and kids when they come along. I saw too many grown men being depressed because they were always at the factory and never got to see their family to want anything to do with that life style.

To be honest I never thought about something such as a dream job. A job has a very practical meaning to it and somehow can't be associated to a dream for me. Whatever my dream is, it has nothing to do with a job. I did sometimes think of a job I would like to do. Since I'm so amazing I'm going to wait until I am 28 before I decide what I am going to do for real. Until then I just travel and get drunk.

You don't have to work, be forced to spend 4 years of your life like your family pressures to do. You have the privilege and convenience to go about life without running into situations I've seen people go through. What I meant by lucky rich fuck, is that I used fuck as a noun, and your a combination of lucky and rich -_-. So yeah, just a misunderstanding.

The reason I don't have to work is because I already earned so much in the past 2.5 years I can sit it out till i hit 25-26. I expect to make a bit more so money isn't the first thing I have to worry about. I don't see what earning money has to do with luck. At least not the luck in the manner you use it. My family pressures a lot to study and work, but you know what? Grow some balls and say fuck that. Maybe I'm lucky that I have brains and balls though. If you meant that I'm sorry. And I'm also sorry you don't have those;(!

Reading from top to bottom I see you have the most benificial mantality in terms of secures you future goals. I would like to point out a slight inaccuracy though. To build up investments in order to generate money souns like to things to me.
#1. You are looking for investments to generate passive income so you can do music without having to work. #2. You may think that money (invested) will begin to generate money passively.
Most people believe it takes money to make moeny and they are incorrect. I am not sure if you think this way as well. Please clearify to me via PM if you like. I am sincerely interested in you mantality on this subject as I will be with others here once I read past your post and find others who think like you.
