Macron is the only big exception but he's more of a.social liberal than a social democrat. there seems to have been a sort of synthesis between econ policies of conservatives and more liberal / social democratic social and cultural values. The labour parties in Europe started to drop anti-capitalist positions around Blair/Schröder and the conservatives started to ditch the traditionalist base around Merkel / Sarkozy / Cameron (probably earlier already). So I maybe would call it the 'age of moderation' rather than the age of conservatism. Also conservatives seem to have moved towards econ policies somewhat to the left again over recent years. The first Merkel government was more liberal than this one and May is no Thatcherite either. 'Red tory' politics seems to become increasingly popular, with 'generation z', too.

And you know how you spot a conservative? He thinks he is the moderate. @LegalLord it's a bit more complicated than that. Macron's victory looks a lot like De Gaule's victory in 69. The revenge of a part of the population that is eager to applied failed recipes to our country (commentaries from Le Monde readers, the newspaper of all the "reasonable" center people in France (I'm sarcastic here), are quite interesting to understand this). These people are more liberal, economical pov, than most people from the right. To simply reduce it to a victory against Le Pen is a political mistake imo. They are as afraid of Le Pen than they are afraid of Melenchon.

To simply reduce it to a victory against Le Pen is a political mistake imo. They are as afraid of Le Pen than they are afraid of Melenchon. Oh yes we are. Melenchon is in many people's eyes as dangerous as Marine. People seem to have forgotten that a populist is dangerous regardless of his side. His victory would have torn the country just the same. It is baffling that Melenchon supporters are so far gone that they don't see how repulsing their endless rants are to half of the population. Now Macron is far from perfect and I'm still quite ambivalent about him however give the guy a break, he just started his 5 years. I really appreciate that his first law was meant to tackle the corruption issues in our elected bodies, it does not go far enough for my taste but it's something that should have been done years ago and that was always postponned by both PS and LR. He is also raising the army budget for 2018 which is not a single day too soon; putting back some dignity in the presidency, unlike the failures who passed as presidents this decade. On the other hand I really dislike the loi travail. So you see, not everything is related to economy and jobs and that also helped elect him. Also I wonder what “reasonable” means here for you? Deluded? Spineless?

![]() I'm actually kind of surprised with that result tbh. It's pretty much how I would self-identify so that's there but I've recently gotten less results like that and have been put more into the greens/Left direction on social issues. So especially during the times of refugee crisis and all I leaned much more to the left according to these things. But this basicly what I'd want to happen: FDP + CDU + Greens coalition, both so that we don't have another 4 years of CDU + SPD as well as getting more influence from Greens for those few topics that really matter to them. For me, the Greens are still quite honestly a 1-issue party and while I do know they have stances on everything else as well, that's what I think is still the most important issue for them and what I'd hope they'd push for if given the chance. Sad thing it's not going to happen because FDP + Greens HATE each other ![]() Interested to see what other people from here end up like! Maybe I unconsciously emphasized on picking questions that are "important" to me in an attempt to (again, unconsciously) get a bit away from what I felt was a tad too left for me... idk... I'd probably pick CDU over FDP myself or put them about even but I'm not even sure what I'm going to vote yet... but it's between FDP/CDU/Greens for me //edit: Oh in case it's not obvious, the link is here: https://www.wahl-o-mat.de/bundestagswahl2017/ I would assume anyone can do it but it's all in german. 38 questions asking with an option to go "agree" / "neutral" / "disagree" as well as an option to pick questions that are important to you, doubling the weight of them (I think?). If there's interest I can screenshot them and translate them for the non-german people in here but would take some time, so only if specifically asked

CDU: 58,1% Pirate: 54,1% Greens: 51,4% SPD: 48,6% AfD: 47,3% Die Linke: 44,6% NPD: 35,1% Kind of what I thought. FDP by far the most compatible with me.

Well I don't remember exactly how many moves he made on this point beside starting a useless crisis with the military head (never seen before in France, mind you), and finally doing what militaries wanted in the first place (and changing the military head for one of his man, not everything was lost). That's some impressive dignity here.

Climate is as much connected to (organic) farming, as it is to renewable energies and getting rid of pollution (coal, heavy metals in garments, liquid manure and so on), which is connected to standards of living in Germany as well as in Bangladesh because the greens have understood that outsourcing of pollution is no option, as climate change and supply chains can only be tackled globally. Which leads to global fairness, which is connected to solving problems by attacking the root cause instead of building walls. Mass production of animals, which the greens want to get rid of, is connected to health (antibiotics, abovementioned liquid manure) as well as workers' rights as well as land conservation and development as well as climate change and global fairness (as feed for our pigstys comes from as far as South America, albeit not more than 10% of the total demand, and palm oil based products do support destruction of woodland elsewhere). Moreover they have a firm stance on a plurality based society which to you may not be an issue but my be for others. I don't really want to live in Berlin in the future, but it's like the most diverse city in Germany and if you like to experience a plethora of differing ways of life this is THE city to go to in my opinion. Core values of green politics according to me are respect, conservation, fairness and prevention. I'm sure there are more but those are the ones easily identifyable. I'm afraid that we here in Europe don't get enough catastophes like Fukushima or natural desasters in our region to push hard for the green's goals. Or to realize that we're in on this planet together. And there is no next stop. There is no exit.

In total, there are 38 questions / theses 1) Should the Bundeswehr be engaged within the country? 2) Diesel fuel for passenger cars should be taxed higher (it currently is preffered by tax due to previously believed environmental benefits) 3) There should be a yearly limit for aylum seekers 4) Renewable energies should be financially supported by the state permanently (I interpret: until they are so prevalent it's not needed anymore) 5) The state should provide more money for social housing 6) BAföG (briefly: studen support) should be paid regardless of the parents' income. 7) Video surveilance of public spaces should be increased. 8) Debt cut for Greece? 9) Speed limit on the Autobahn everywhere 10) Defense spending should be increased 11) Have internet platforms take responsbility to remove fake news 12) Organic agriculture should be supported more than conventional agriculture 13) The State's child support should only be paid to German families 14) Emplyers should continue to be able to issue work contracts for a fixed term without reason (i.e. not all contracts have to be a permanent position unless a justification for fixed term is brought forth) 15) Vaccination for children should be mandatory. 16) All Banks should be nationalised 17) Genocide of the European Jews shall continue to be a focal point of Germany histroy ("Erinnerungskultur"). 18) Budget surplus should primarily used to reduce state debt 19) A commune should be able to set a limit on the number of livestock produced. 20) Ill edit the rest. actually nevermind, saw the reddit link xD

They don't actually get a lot of votes, however. (0.06% in the last Bundestagswahl, slightly more than the party of fundamentalist christians at 0.04% (Yes, that is the actual name of that party), but way below the satirical party "the party" at 0.16%) So basically, they are utterly irrelevant. Apparently we have another communist party in the DKP, but they are equally irrelevant. There are a few weird parties in german politics, but they don't actually have any influence whatsoever, they just look weirdto people outside of germany.

+ Show Spoiler + 6: BAföG independent of parental income BAföG (state aid for students incl. uni) should be payed out regardless of the income of the parents. Is it just about giving money to students? 13: Child benefit Child benefit should only be payed out to German families. I assume the question is about giving the benefits only to ethnic Germans ? Not about foreigners working in Germany and receiving benefits for their kids living elsewhere? 17: Culture of Remembrance The genocide of european Jews should continue to be a central part of German culture of remembrance. Why is this even a question? 19: Limit on animal husbandry It should be possible to legally limit the total number of farm livestock in a municipality. 23: Early retirement People who made inpayments to the pension system should be allowed to retire without pension reductions. 29: Projects against right wing extremism The federal government should continue to fund campaigns against right wing extremism (neonazism). You just had a left wing extremist circus in Hamburg but the question focuses only on neonazis, wtf 30: Allowance for real estate transfer tax There should be an allowance for real estate transfer tax to a certain limit if the real estate is owner-occupied. Better translation please Got NPD highest lol. Must have skipped too many questions or pressed the wrong buttons.

the real estate question is about whether you support giving a tax break / exemption to people who want to buy property for living purposes.

However, if your parents have too much money or income, you don't qualify for BAföG, as it is assumed to be their job to support you. This might be a problem if your parent don't want to pay, but have the money to do so. 13) German law does not have any advantages for "ethnic" germans in it. If you are german, you are german, no matter if you are german because your parents where german, or because you naturalized in some way. This is about people who live in Germany, but are not german. Most likely something about refugees, probably part of the AfD party program to be against this if i would have to guess. 17) Because the AfD is against it, i assume. 19) What is your question with regards to this? The question is about limitting the amount of cows, pigs and other stuff in one area. The point is against mass farms, and for some sort of more ecological agriculture. 23) The current law is that your retirement money is based on how much you have paid into the fond, but it gets reduced if you retire early to compensate for the additional years of payout. 29) What kind of clarification do you wish on this one? 30) There is a tax on habitable real estate. Currently, this tax does not car whether you live in that house, or rent it to other people. This wants to make a certain amount of real estate tax-free, as long as you live in it yourself. This is supposed to make more people own houses they live in as opposed to renting them out.

It says AfD has the same stance on 17) as the other big parties. In principle, obviously. 19) I didn't get why the amount of cows per municipality is important. Now I know it's about mass farms, though I don't think such norms would fix the problem. They would just move it elsewhere. 29) Why is right wing (and only right wing) extremism among the "hot topics"? Was curious if you had any growing problem with that kind of extremism but after checking CDU's, NPD's and AfD's answers I think the question wasn't related to anything in particular. The rest appears clear now, thanks.
