Although this thread does not function under the same strict guidelines as the USPMT, it is still a general practice on TL to provide a source with an explanation on why it is relevant and what purpose it adds to the discussion. Failure to do so will result in a mod action.

From articles I was reading about the GDPR and the costs and time for compliance. Earlier, during the Brexit fight, the regulations on foodstuffs and appliances were pretty ridiculous.

What is wrong with GDPR? Do you think the costs and time for compliance is a problem? You only need to look at the Equifax scandal to realise that there is a need for regulation on data and that the data should protect citizens, not companies. What do you find wrong with EU regulations on foodstuff and appliances? If there is an effective single market, safety regulations must be normalised acrossed all the countries.

Is there too much regulations? There could be but the direct implication of your colloquialism is that the EU is somehow arrogant for having homogenizing food, safety and personal data regulation. That doesn't make sense.

The man wanted an example. I gave him one. I'll let more interested individuals take up that as a long argument, but frankly your post history in debating threads gives me very little interest in taking it up. I'm not a member of the EU. My comment in passing to Big J was just pleasure on his report on Austria's new government.

If you don't want to give details on why you think regulations on food and appliance are ridiculous rather than claim disinterest, perhaps you would be better off not posting at all. If you don't like my post history here, then you can take it up with the mods, or create a thread in website feedback. If you have no idea on context and have no particular motivation apart from expressing tribalism on issues you have difficulty understanding, perhaps you should post with an enquiring mind.

The trolls are out in force. If you want deep conversations on subjects that I'm not passionate about, limit the shitposting. I only take so many accusations of circlejerking, white supremacy, biggoted jerk, and Batman villain before limiting future interactions with the poster. I answered a quick question from somebody else, and an followup 8-sentence post with 4 questions in it isn't so quick to dispatch.

If you're interested in shallow conversations about things you are not passionate about, why are you baiting in the first place?

We get it, American nationalists don't like the European Union, duly noted.

If you want to discuss something in the Euro politics thread, you're welcome to. If you want to do a drive-by sniping of Euro politics be prepared to get called out on your shit. I expect the same in the us politics thread.

If I were to drop in, leave a "haha. Just read an article and the us penal system is truly stupid". And then refused to back it up when called out on it, if expect to catch flak for it.

I commented on the Austrian post-in-a-picture (pretty evocative if you ask me) and a writer asked me a small specific. That’s not baiting. That’s commenting. I think it’s instructive that the first responses were explanatory and agreed in part/disagreed in part. Be part of that group. And grow a thicker skin for God’s sake if you’re provoked by my pair of posts.

I got caught in a massive hail storm this morning.
When you came along so righteous with a new national hate, so convincing is the ardor of war and of men, it's harder to breathe than to believe you're a friend. The wars at home, the wars abroad, all soaked in blood and lies and fraud.

But people do do that in the Us politics thread and no one calls anyone out for that. Its called not being a yipping dog against people from another country.

People not from Europe are welcome to talk here. But we have standards in line with the rest of the forum. This is not the US pol thread, this thread doesn't move at 10+ pages a day, Danglars has a history of shit and run here and he is for some reason trying to bring in his personal grievances from the US pol thread in this thread, with random crap like "accusations of circlejerking, white supremacy, biggoted jerk, and Batman villain" none of which are relevant in the EU thread. We also don't take kindly to posters being compared to derogatory imagery. Again, this is the EU pol thread not the US pol thread; stop trying to bring this thread down to your standards. If you don't like it, please return to the US pol thread, where you are free to call make random assertations and act holier than thou, free to call people yipping dogs and to grow skins.

Something weird happens with weather even here, we got like first snow in this winter with average temp about +2/-2.
Now it's about week of snowing. About 10 years ago it would be freezing -20 and almost 3 months of full winter behind.

Considering amount of weather anomalies in last years globally...Considering our climate is a complex system that affects entire planet constantly. Is it only to me looks like hard evidence of climate change and global warming? Enhanced and enforced by human ativities of course.

All big scale statistics are saying that. Look at the NASA maps. My concern is that due to the size and the cost of the problem we have reached an impass to deal with it and which is why big conservative parties like SPD are now getting in line with the right and far-right to cover it up. We are not able to deal with the problem anymore with non-radical politics at this point, time is up. So you are either the idiot who ruins his country in a useless attempt of fixing it, or you just let the whole ecosystem collaps and pretend it's everyone else's fault (just cry Trump and build another VW factory). There is not a lot that can be done for the next 30 years, shit's about to get real.

Dude, if you need to blow off steam, go PM me. I already said all I needed to.

It's clear from the pattern of this thread that you can comment briefly on linked news stories as more of a quick commentary than a debate.

I wouldn't know what makes them anything else but a conservative party. Their economical view of the world is pretty much exactly the mainstream conservative one: private property, heritage, a few regulations for the market and then have a state redistribute what society produces a bit plus to finance some state actions that are hard to capitalize for private firms (like infrastructure).

And on other issues, like gay-marriage, they just go with the mainstream.

If you don't have a view of the world that is different from "status quo with a bit more of *this*" then yes, you are a conservative.
Heck they even declare for god in the constitution.

Conservative as in "preserves the statu quo in their main grand political orientations," yes. Perhaps the best word is conformist though.

That's pretty much the definition of social democracy. Fighting for social justice within the framework of liberal democracy and capitalism. It's like calling CDU/CSU social democratic because of the Energiewende. If you really think the SPD is conservative you need some perspective on what conservatism / right wing actually entails.

Isn't that kind of the definition of "conservativism"? To be honest, I have never heard something like a definition of the term, aside from tautologic bullshit like "things are like they are for a reason and conservatives want to preserve that".
