edit: my bad, this is wrong [later edits: apparently not!], I took it from a site which apparently confused the already finished chess world cup and the chess championship. Trent and Polgar commentated the world cup. second edit: actually, Trent tweeted the following on the 4th of November: Lawrence Trent @LawrenceTrentIM 4 Nov Extremely excited and honoured to be going to Chennai as commentator for Anand-Carlsen, for me the biggest WcH match since Fischer-Spassky. third edit: and on her page, Susan Polgar says she is going to be commentating... Looks like Polgar & Trent was right all along!

Recently there was event where Susan Polgar was commentating and I think she did pretty good job. I hope this is not the case, because we need really strong GMs to commentate the games. At least Tania Sachdev seems to be pretty hot...

Are the broadcasts pretty polished with showing the board and commentators and such? Will there be VODs available since I'm in the EST timezone and probably won't wake up for it with all the BlizzCon watching I need to do this weekend? I am not that good at chess but I like it, and this match has me intrigued. Thank you in advance for answering all my noob questions. The way it usually works is different chess sites and servers run their separate broadcasts. These broadcasts mostly don't show any live video from the venue. There's also going to be an official stream which I assume will show live video, shots of the players, etc., but the casting team seems to be made up of 2 IMs and a GM I've never heard of. That doesn't mean that it has to be bad, but it's a little odd. The candidates tournament for instance had Nigel Short on the official live stream, a very strong and famous GM. There were vods for the candidates tournament, but I don't know how the official stream will work for this one. There will definitely be vods for the broadcast of ICC (Internet Chess Club, where most strong GMs play) though and you should be able to access them for free if you activate your 1 month free trial. No live video in that broadcast though. As for the broadcasts being polished... they might be since this WC match is a huge deal for the chess world, but usually they're not. Competitive chess doesn't really cater to new viewers, the general idea being that if you're crazy enough to watch live chess, you won't care about polished presentation anyway. :p

It seems that Carlsen demanded to add a clause in the regulations that permits the championship to be postponed if a player gets ill. In addition, he brought his own chef...
