Well, these new announcers certainly have the highest salary per minute casting I've seen in a long time.

can anyone explain what the number 0.09 means?

The engine estimates a 0.09 pawn advantage for white, which means nothing at all

thanks.

Guys relax, after the queen exchange even if they played it out it would end in a draw. They just saved you time. I mean they are not the kind of players that would make huge mistake or blunders after locked up king sides.

Yeah, Anand had optimistic prospects as long as the Queens were on.

What was he supposed to do though? If not Qd5 he has to play Qg4, Kh8, Kb1, b4 and now the queen on g4 is blocking his own pawn.

Sure, but why go for the exchanges as white before it got even? It felt like white had a promising initiative. Anyone has some engine evals before the exchanges? Wonder what the players will say at the press conference

Aren't draws in the first few games normal for a match like this? To feel the other player out?

yeah, (ofc im not 100% sure cause im not anand) but er i remember the commentators saying it might be anands gameplan to draw, because hes defending champion (and overall he just needs a draw)
So far both draws have been more or less anand's choice (that he went for the draw, rather then being put into the position like carlson was in both games)

Anand said in the conference that he avoided the sharper lines because Carlsen was probably much more aware of the variations than him.

So you could say that his preparation was lacking.

well, okay... he still had like 90 mins on his clock to "prepare" now
It's interesting, because Anand seems to steer into sharp positions, yet doesn't bite at the end. Kind of counter intuitive, but he seems content with it, very interesting strategy.

Carlsen definitely did a better job than yesterday.

Ya but at the highest lvl of chess it pretty common to draw in general. Extremely common actually lol, I think this going to probably go to tie breaker -_-....reminds me of why I quit trying to play chess competitively

I think the post-match analysis by Anand was as follows:
- anand was out of preparation
- he seemed to think that carlsen was very confident in the position
- he thought the position was very sharp just before trading the knights & queens
- he was trying to recall the lines but he didn't see anything concrete
- he decided to be cautious and not pursue sharp lines
- he was still settling in and wanted to get comfortable with both white & black
- he thinks that next games will be more interesting

Carlsen said something funny: when asked what he was going to do on his day of rest he replied that he would do something relaxing after two tough days.
Well, now I tell you, I never seen good come o' goodness yet. Him as strikes first is my fancy; dead men don't bite; them's my views--amen, so be it.

Having this thread in TL is a great thing. Maybe more people will understand why I was always so damn annoyed when Artosis went all like 'TvT is just like chess!'
