Greetings to all chess players and fans out there.
In that position, doesn't Qf2+ save black?
1.... Qf2+
2. Kxf2 (2.Kd1?? Qf1++) fxg6+
3. Qf3 Rxf3+
4. Nxf3 Bxb2
5. Ra2 Bd4+
and Black survives.

I had this in a blitz game and played Qe3+ of course, only found out afterwards. How does one ever see stuff like that in a game? If it's a puzzle it's always easier, because you know you have to consider weird looking moves. Always look at the checks and forcing moves and you'll find stuff like this a lot more often.

Magnus Carlsen's official youtube channel. I guess this was his big news. Edit: Is there a way to link to the channel without generating an embedded video?

Yeah, he's still one of the best rapid players in the world, though obviously "bad" compared to his dominance in classical chess. Which is a little strange: there was a time when he was regularly using <30 minutes to his first time control in supertournaments and beating some of the best players in the world.

Time controls are a funny thing. I'm pretty bad at blitz, but in time trouble in a classical length game I'm really strong. No idea why.

in time trouble you have thought a lot about the position and warmed up your brain kinda so you can move real fast.
