Ok he won't be in the major tournaments any more but I don't think he was really a fixture there anyway , lates Wijk proved that and now the motivation has gone he wants to go before it gets embarrasing. He contributed a huge amount, won everything going and now gets to enjoy the rest of his life with his family. He's not leaving chess altogether and he wants to focus on other projects. e.g contribute to chess education for children. No one can play for ever and I feel happiness that he can walk away with pride and start the next chapter of his life.

I'm really curious what'll happen once Magnus' bank of leftover ideas from the WC match runs out a bit. Does he steer away from main lines again or does he try to keep up the level of preparation he's shown the past year? And I wonder if the rest of the top 20 crowd will ever bite the bullet and just start playing Bg5 instead of Nd5 against his Shveshnikov.

But Hikaru got upset because he accidentally got a message from the arbiter during the game. That's what I understood from the chess24 stream. Yeah the arbiter messaged Hikaru because he thought the times were wrong for the players but it was only wrong for the stream. Though Hikaru was already lost, so it didn't affect the outcome.

30.e6 is one of the greatest finishes ever imo. It's incredible that Carlsen could ever produce such a masterpiece in a rapid game. Very impressed with Giri too. He has really grown and completely overcome his relative weaknesses in rapid and blitz. He might be a future serious contender for the world tirle if he keeps playing like that.

Talking of which i can't recommend enough Seirawan and Svidler commentary for the Chessable event. Those two are the most likeable grandmasters ever and absolutely awesome commentators.

I watch most stuff he uploads nowadays, he can explain everything even for someone who isnt very great so you have some grasp of whats going on which is very nice, goes thru why the obvious moves wont actually work in the long term and everything Also cant forget the classic line "this is a very interesting move, but interesting for the reason that it actually just loses the game"

I don't play chess at all by the way lol Him and Nakamura did a podcast basically talking about chess playing a few games etc, they mentioned something about corona causing more people to play chess since they are staying home etc, which was flagged for hate speech and harmful content. Ofc shitloads of people flooded youtube and got the video back up, but it did manage to get on every drama channel on youtube i think lol.

They had issues with covid conspiracy theories and fake covid cure ads so they created an automated system that would massively overflag anything vaguely related to covid.

Useless drama imo. The comment section was a hilarious clusterfuck of conspiracy theories. And btw, I'd rather have youtube do a bit too much than too little when it comes to hate speech and conspiracy theories. If it means their algorythm screws up from time to time it's no big deal.

Talking of Chuky, that game of his is absolutely exquisite. It's like a masterclass in how to attack on the kingside:
