No, lets. You appear to have utter faith in Theresa Mays government. Why? Due to wishful thinking of a complete withdrawal from the EU. You can have one, but it doesn't lead to the other. There is no connecting thought in between.

Boris Johnson has announced that Britain will support Turkey's bid to join the EU despite putting warnings about the prospect at the heart of the Brexit campaign in the run up to the referendum.

During the EU referendum Mr Johnson warned that the accession of Turkey would give millions of migrants the right to live and work in the UK. The claim was one of the most controversial of the referendum campaign and led to accusations by senior Remain campaigners that Mr Johnson had lied.

But yesterday, during his first official visit to Turkey, Mr Johnson said that Britain will "help Turkey in any way" now that it is leaving the EU. He also declined to apologise for previously writing a limerick about the "love that flowers" between the Turkish President and a goat

In May Mr Johnson won the the Spectator's inaugural President Erdogan Offensive Poetry Competition after beating more than 3,000 other submissions.

The competition was launched after the criminal prosecution of a comedian in Germany for writing a poem accusing President Erdogan of bestiality.

He yesterday avoided any further diplomatic incidents by dismissing the poem as "trivia", adding that he was "delighted" it had not come up in talks.

He instead tried to build relations by highlighting the fact that he is the "proud possessor of a beautiful, very well-functioning Turkish washing machine".

That was pre-Turkish washing machine Boris, he is a changed man after buying that beautiful well-functioning appliance.

On a more serious note, Britain needs to warm up every potential trade partner and that was the main purpose of this visit, Boris mentioned wanting a "jumbo" trade deal with Turkey. Saying you're for Turkey joining the EU and will help with it is part of the flattery that serves that warming up purpose, and an easy thing to promise after giving up your say on who gets to join.

Exactly. I dont even think the UKs opinion counts on the issue of whether or not Turkey can join the EU. After leaving the EU britain might lose a lot of trading partners. I can imagine how they are now trying to become friends with everybody just in case they might depend on them later on. Although I dont understand why Boris Johnson was given that job considering his behaviour in the past. Seems like a really stupid move to make Johnson responsible for foreign affairs.

Probably some favor trading with May. Him stepping down gave May the win for PM after all.

Boris is a little too Trumpian in that he doesn't properly respect how much the mere words that come out of his mouth have an effect on people all around the world. He can be quite reckless sometimes.

Britain will not wait for German elections due in September 2017 before triggering Article 50 to begin the formal process of leaving the European Union, Prime Minister Theresa May told the Sunday Times newspaper.

May, who will give a speech to members of the ruling Conservative Party on Sunday, ruled out an early general election, saying it would cause "instability", but said she would repeal the 1972 European Communities Act which took Britain into what is now the EU.

"We will introduce, in the next Queen's speech, a Great Repeal Bill that will remove the European Communities Act from the statute book," she told the newspaper.

Overturning the act will take legal effect once Britain formally leaves the European Union, the newspaper reported.

British Prime Minister Theresa May will trigger the divorce process from the European Union by the end of March, firing the starting gun on the country's biggest shift in policy since World War Two.

May, appointed prime minister shortly after Britain voted in June to leave the bloc, has been under pressure from EU officials, investors and members of her Conservative Party to offer more on her plan for Britain's exit, beyond her catch phrase "Brexit means Brexit".

In an interview with the BBC, May for the first time confirmed what many expected - that she will trigger Article 50 of the EU's Lisbon Treaty before the end of March next year.

"We will trigger before the end of March next year," May told the BBC's Andrew Marr show, referring to a the formal divorce process which gives Britain up to two years to negotiate its exit from the bloc.

Asked whether her government would prioritise immigration over access to tariff-free trade with EU countries in divorce talks with the bloc - something that has muted investment, May said only that she wanted to get the "right deal".

"I want the right deal for trade in goods and services and what we are doing at the moment ... is listening to businesses here in the UK, listening to different sectors, finding out what it is that is most important to them," she said.

To get the right deal, May was clear that she must keep her cards close to her chest, saying she would not give a "running commentary" on her negotiation or give her position away.

So she is basically triggering it shortly before French elections, and months away from German elections. Oh well, seems like 2017 will probably be as interesting as 2016.

I look forward to seeing what the Brexit actually ends up looking like. Hopefully it won't end up being botched by bad negotiations or "can't set a precedent for peaceful exit" Europeans. The EU as it is now could very well botch this further with arrogance and hubris.

Walked past the Tory Party conference earlier. Some anti-Brexit/Pro EU protesters, but not many.

Saw lots of young kids in suits (and mostly blue ties), who I presume were young Tories wandering around heading to the place they are hosting it.

Lots of security, including closing off roads and machine guns. Didn't seem all that busy though, and the protesters weren't there when I went back past a few hours later so doesn't seem like much effort was put into it.

No hypocrisy here, more like pure politician skill. If Turkey joins or nearly joins the EU, anti-EU movements will grow stronger as they'll be able to claim that "the corrupt Brussels establishment wants to facilitate a Muslim invasion of Europe".

It'll never actually happen despite what politicians on both sides want, so he might as well say he's in favour of it. Nothing lost. There's no appetite to try and topple the EU, even though I'm sure a lot of Brexiteers share my opinion that an eventual toppling is inevitable. When it does happen, it will be bad for everyone.

In other news FTSE100 hit its all time high today. Looking forward to all the Guardian articles about how Brexit has piled billions onto the economy as they claimed it had wiped billions out on the 24th June.

How does this make any sense. The Brexit lots are colossal hypocrites.

Looking forward to all the Guardian articles about how Brexit has piled billions onto the economy as they claimed it had wiped billions out on the 24th June.

the FTSE hit an alltime high because the Pound went on a 25year dive today and your stocks are dirtcheap for foreign buyers.
Look at the FTSE in $ or € and it will look different.
