I have about 6 friends I would trust with my life, and I am the same way to them. My girlfriend is very intelligent, and I like that because I can have intellectualy conversations with her and make witty remarks and have her catch them. Whenever I hang out with my friends, we have a good time, make jokes and just have a good time, and thats what I like my friends to be like. Overall I say I surround myself with somewhat-smart people, along with people who like to joke.

Laid back. Reasonably intelligent. Non-materialistic. One mental disorder or another. (Not kidding or exaggerating.) Beyond that...I dunno. I just surround myself with people I can be comfortable around. People who'll actually think before they act, and have the ability to think well, at that. :p

Then there's your ex, who is fine not going anywhere, but you complain that he doesn't wish he was somewhere else. You can't have it both ways. Society puts you on a track, but the carot in front of you barely makes you forget the dogs chasing you. Someone who realizes they will keep running and not going anywhere and being fine with that is unusual in this sort of factory. You make yourself happy. Most people have bad habits that keep them from reaching points where they can understand how to do this. But other people are not as able as you, and resort to using their friends to listen to their whining like it matters. I am bored with people who feel like it matters so much, all these things they must tell me. You really aren't like them. You take this as an observation. Why are all the people around you like that? I think that is just the state of the common person. As an uncommoner, you have gotten outside of them to see this, but being outside, you make this topic to as, "Where am I?" You are with me. It wasn't my ex who is happy not going anywhere, it was my best friend. But regardless of the person, i think you didn't necessarily percieve what i was saying correctly. Or i simply didn't articulate myself clear enough. The problem i have with my friends that 'wish they were somewhere else' is that they make no effort to go somewhere else. The problem i have with my best friend, is that unless one of his friends pushes him in a direction, he stays completely stagnant. In both cases, the problem is that people are stagnant. It is my desire to meet people who put themselves into motion independently. Society puts you on a track, but the carot in front of you barely makes you forget the dogs chasing you. Someone who realizes they will keep running and not going anywhere and being fine with that is unusual in this sort of factory. i dont know what you mean by the above quote. Elaborate.

I understand why you may percieve what i said as arrogance. However, i believe you may have missed the mark. I don't begrudge people their problems. I have a shitload of my own. I don't even begrudge people complaining about them. That is usually part of working through them. However, my desire to meet people 'who don't have any problems because they deal with them' would be reiterated best as: i want to meet people who percieve their problems as challenges to conquer instead of reasons to fail. I think thats ultimately what it comes down to. Attitude. I'm sick of everyone's very long list of reasons not to succeed. If you want to succeed, do so. If it's hard, well, it should be. Smile anyways.

The problem i have with my best friend, is that unless one of his friends pushes him in a direction, he stays completely stagnant. One problem was the others who were unhappy. Is this other person unhappy in his stagnation, or are you unhappy that he is stagnant? He seems like the exception. You have all these various people who complain about their situation regardless of how it is. I think that is the way to be. It is unnatural to accept wherever you are. Still, the stagnation you observe is a relative term. One must keep moving to just remain where they are. He goes no further, and this is the fault to you? Or is he unhappy like the rest? I am still not sure which you meant. You did list him with the others. In both cases, the problem is that people are stagnant. It is my desire to meet people who put themselves into motion independently. I thought you were talking about the unhappiness, not the stagnation. Who really isn't stagnant? Only you? Maybe stagnation is only visible in others, or maybe non-stagnation hides itself well. Is it possible others see you as stagnant; is it possible that someone is non-stagnant and you cannot see it? Is stagnation necessarily discernable by others? Because it seems like everywhere you look outside, you see stagnates. And everywhere you look inside, you see the opposite. So we should consider that the limitations of looking may be at issue here. There was a factory farm with many chickens. They had no space, lived in poop, and cried all day long. Some grew weary of life and died prematurely of sorrow. Others fought the cage, and bled. There was a chicken who did neither, and she did not cry. The other chickens cursed her, saying "What is wrong with you? You are stagnant. Be a chicken! Hate the cage!" Feuerbach out.

quite a lot of people who smoke hash every day while also working full time and managing to do so rather well, and some who do it without really having much else to occupy themselves with and some students who don't even drink, some pretty major nerds.. mostly everyone has in common that they're pretty laid back tho, and I wouldn't define any of my close friends as even remotely aggressive. some have problems, but none of them bitch about it enough to make it annoying, usually we laugh about whatever tough shit is going on. personally, I can't recall complaining about anything in a very long time and well, I don't really see the point. convincing myself that everything is wonderful makes me happy so why not do it :D

The problem i have with my best friend, is that unless one of his friends pushes him in a direction, he stays completely stagnant. Okay, I think I get what Feuerbach is trying to ask here. What's wrong with his stagnation? What ought he be doing differently? It's obvious that the others are complaining too much and not doing anything about their problems. But you're being less descriptive of this best friend. Is he also the same way? Stagnation means unhappiness too, I assme... Your little story or whatever does not even belong in this conversation. What are you saying? We are all chickens, and being positive is what? Bleeding on the cage, or dying of sorrow? And being whiney is whatever the other one is? And being stagnant is the weirdo? That doesn't say anything useful in this topic at all. The point is that he wants to meet more people like him... or is wondering why everyone he knows deals with their problems so differently than him, so much less better... in how they choose to view them, and what they do (or don't do) about them. On March 29 2006 16:46 Teroru wrote:In both cases, the problem is that people are stagnant. It is my desire to meet people who put themselves into motion independently. See? That's all. He's thinking about doing something about this problem already. It's his desire to meet people who put themselves into motion independently, like himself, or the universe. And unlike the Sun, Moon, and Earth... Look, I think Mora is right. People can take responsibility and do something about the quality of their lives. Sometimes it takes effort, sure. And effort can be very stressful, and make you unhappy. But as long as you can believe that effort is ultimately building towards a happiness (that probably won't come), that's what life's all about, you gotta do it! Sure, maybe you'll never be happy, but you can at least be happy about it... geez I mean, you don't know unless you try. These friends of his aren't even trying. They could be much happier. It's not like complaining is actually making their life better. It does make them feel better though. Funny how they might feel better but yet that isn't better. Kind of like life has nothing to do with feeling, but instead has to do with acting like you're happy all the time, putting effort out, and trying to not be stagnant... it's only proper.
