In the US for example

UK also has data cap, Japan does also...

And probably a lot of SA and underdeveloped countries would have data caps

A 3GB cap is pretty ridiculous. A 3 TB cap is hardly a cap. That's 10GB content per day. Even if you download 2 full quality blu-ray movies every day you don't (quite) hit that. And games *shouldn't* reach anywhere near that. Of course, if those caps don't scale over time, then in a year or 2 you will be hitting it fairly regularly. But lets give ISPs the benefit of the doubt in this case: if the caps are meant to combat abuse, then they should never be cutting off at regular (albeit heavy) use of the connection. And that includes game and movie loving nerds.

Thats what i said, i think this is the future, but we have to see how things work in the future, some games are already a 100gb, once 4k consoles and beyond are the norm, that size should increase exponentially.

Following the rollout of Apple TV, Roku, and other streaming device apps, YouTube TV this month is set to add a number of major channels and more markets. However, as a result, there will be an upcoming price increase for new subscribers next month.

According to a since removed post (via BuzzFeed), YouTube TV is adding new channels on February 14th. (Update: Now official.) The notable arrivals fall under the Turner family of channels, which includes CNN, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, TBS, TNT, truTV, and Turner Classic Movies.

Meanwhile, on the sports front, the cord-cutting service is gaining nationally televised NBA games, All-Star weekend, Playoffs, and the NBA TV channel. Baseball is adding the MLB Network and MLB Postseason games. Other additions include UEFA soccer and the PGA Championship.

NBA League Pass and MLB.TV will also be available for an additional monthly fee, like Showtime and Fox Soccer Plus.

YouTube TV is also launching in 18 new markets: Lexington, Dayton, Honolulu, El Paso, Burlington, Plattsburgh, Richmond, Petersburg, Mobile, Syracuse, Champaign, Springfield, Columbia, Charleston, Harlingen, Wichita, Wilkes-Barre, and Scranton.

This increases availability to over 100 cities, with the subscription featuring six user accounts and unlimited DVR, with apps for the web and mobile.

The new channels will come with a price increase, but only for new subscribers next month. Sign-ups until then are still $35, but will jump to $40 after March 13th.

The Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ reveal was somewhat disappointing for me. Aside from some minor hardware upgrades, the only real upgrade is the camera. It's a fairly big upgrade although I have an actual $2000 camera so I don't really need a phone with these kind of capabilities. I just take out my phone for quick shots of random stuff when I don't have my camera with me.

I've been waiting on this reveal before getting a new phone, but I guess I didn't need to wait.

Marques is the first youtuber to get a hands on apparently.

edit: oh I guess moving the finger print scanner is good. I heard the placement on the S8 is trash tier.

I want to see the Mi Mix 2S reveal, depending on price and what it comes, i might go for a S8+ or a Mix 2, i think so far the S9 isn't exactly a big upgrade and you can find the S8 super cheap nowadays, same with the Mix 2

I really want to give the Mix a chance tho

I can get an S8 or S8+ for really cheap on my parents plan (actually I think the S8 is $0 atm). S9 isn't anywhere near enough of an upgrade to go for one now. I'd like to look into the Google Pixel 2 XL, but our provider doesn't sell them. I'd rather go through my provider for the deals so S8+ is really looking good now.

Never heard of the Mix though. I'll check it out (I doubt Sasktel sells them lol).

the Mix/Mix2 was the "first" (ok, there was that Shap Aquos phone) with a bezzel-less display, you pretty much have to import them from China BUT... the Mix 2 is a global phone and has every single LTE band in the world, so thats great

supposedly the Mix 2S will be the same

Oh damn that bezel-less Mix 2 looks really good.

Also I heard a rumor the S9 might have a matte option but they don't so fuck me I guess.

I have only seen this video but it confirms what I've suspected, that the S9-lineup would be a refreshed, slightly upgraded S8 (In lack of better words). Dual camera on the S9+ is nice, but I'm going to stick with my S8+.

----

In other news, I'm not going to buy a new phone without wireless charging. Ever since the my S8+ got updated to Oreo, it is a lot more sensitive of reporting moisture in the charging port (I never had this on Nougat, even though I took a pokewalk while it was raining heavily). While it usually goes away after 10-15 minutes, being able to charge wirelessly when your phone doesn't allow you to do it via cable is a godsent.

This shit is way overblown. I got used to it after an hour and with a good case it's incredibly easy to place your finger in the right spot.

I'll take your word for it. Most reviewers I've watched on youtube have complained about it, although I'd assume that's due to not having enough hands on experience before making the video.

Nokia 7+ looks like such a win

Stock Android, 3800mah battery, 1080p, 6'/18 by 9, SD660 (Pretty much a SD821 with worse GPU), headphone jack, Pixel 2XL sensor (although no OIS), about 399 euros (tax included).

Ok Qualcomm, do you really need to make stuff this complicated?

Everything was much better with 400 and 800, maybe even the 600 but that's about it

Google has hinted that the company’s much-maligned Google Glass headset could one day make a comeback as “augmented reality” technology improves.

Rick Osterloh, the head of Google’s hardware division, said hi-tech glasses were “very interesting to us”, although he admitted it would be years before they will become a mass market product.

Google first released its camera-equipped glasses, which featured a screen for reading texts and discreetly watching videos, to the public in 2014. They sparked a privacy backlash and Google cancelled the project a year later, with the project ranking as one of the company’s major failures.

However, recent technological advances have reignited interest in augmented reality (AR) headsets. Intel and the secretive US start-up Magic Leap are both working on holographic glasses while Microsoft’s HoloLens went on sale in 2016.

Apple is also rumoured to be developing its own device.

Both Apple and Google introduced AR capabilities into their mobile phone software last year that allows virtual objects to interact with the real world via the camera screen, but a set of lightweight glasses are seen as are more likely future home for the technology.

“We’re trying to determine what the best future will look like for other kinds of ways to experience AR than just phones,” Mr Osterloh said.

“We’re constantly looking at all sorts of different form factors, we have a lot of research happening, but we have no imminent product announcement.

“It will take a while for the technologies to mature... it will be a few years before that’s the case. We’re going to invest for a long period of time in that area as the technology catches up to where people want it to go.”

Google has made strides in building its own hardware in the last two years, releasing its own line of mobile phones and smart speakers, although revenues from the division are small compared to its colossal advertising empire.

Augmented reality’s most prominent use to date has been the smartphone game Pokémon Go, but many technology executives believe the technology has more profound effects that can shake up education and businesses.

Help!

I just got a Samsung A5 mobile telephone. Coming from an iPhone 5, the screen still seems absurdly huge and I love the water resistance, USB-C and the near infinite amounts of storage (32+128 as opposed to 16 before).

However, there's a lot of duplicate apps that I can't remove. Samsung web browser and Google Chrome, for instance.

Is there a clean way to get rid of all the Samsung and Microsoft shit? I can't even remove OneDrive for fuck's sake!

my galaxy note 4 is starting to see the end of its life and i'm in the market for a new budget phone.

at the moment i'm looking at two xiaomi's - the Mi A1 (or Mi 5X in China) and the Redmi Note 5 (Redmi 5 Plus in China).

from what i can gather, the differences between the two are:

A1 - virtually stock android, dual camera setup, type-c connector
Note 5 - larger screen/less bezel, larger battery (4000 vs 3000 mAh)

both are around the same price and have the same cpu/gpu/ram/storage. at the moment i'm leaning slightly towards the Note 5 (because i can flash out miui), but is it worth giving up a larger battery and larger screen for a dual camera and type-c connectivity?

edit: seems like there's more support for the A1 so i guess that's a plus?
edit 2: looks like note 5 pro is going to get a chinese/global release in the next month or so, so i guess i'll be getting that when the time comes.
