This is a tragic event. Let's not derail the thread with a gun control debate. Posts from page 9 onward will be moderated for steering the discussion towards gun control.

Local media is reporting that the killer had a gas-mask and it was "stylized after Batman's enemy from TDKR (Bane) one".

No joke. So are movies going to face the wrath of the media now? Or will this be blamed on videogames again, perhaps the guy owned a copy of Call of Duty or GTA at home?

Terrible situation

Reading some news about some isolate incident your day ? First world problems I call it. Feel sorry about the victms and I wish them well, but my day's ruined by something else already ><

On topic: How can you get into a cinema theater without some employees having a look at you; I used to remember there were employees checking you out so you don't have hidden sodas/snacks bought for 10 times cheaper than what they were selling. And they also get the tickets from you. Hiding a gun under your T-shirt ( it's summer ) seems strange. They must've found another way in or something.

Different people have different levels of empathy and reactions - it's not "first world problems" and it's rude to call it that. Just because YOU don't feel that way, you shouldn't insult another person's feelings.

The cinema may be a more lax cinema, being not in a large city/town. Some of the more suburban theaters in NYC are very lax on security, and I would imagine that their staff were taxed by the amount of people seeing the grand opening.

I'm sorry but people saying ' the man posted a thread on 9gag, which was then flooded with supporting comments lead to this disaster. ' These people are completely bullshitting out of their asses, 9gag has no thread system, and to comment you're required to use your Facebook account(Which disencourages showing support for this kind of behavior).

Aurora is hardly "not a large city/town." It's a fairly large suburb of Denver. And AFAIK, this theater had a history of security issues, which is no surprise in Aurora. I remember that the one time I had been there, several years ago, I saw at least one police officer.

But if he found a way to get in through the emergency exit (theoretically impossible, but easier to do than it should be), their security measures don't mean a damn thing.

Bit gratuitous to post her final tweets, possibly her final words to someone she was close to, don't you think?
I guess it puts a face on the inhumanity of the event.. It just seems.. invasive.

I mean, it's not a diary, it's a twitter account. She has 3.5k followers, and the person in that convo with her posted about her this morning and was re-tweeted hundreds of times. She puts a human face on the situation when right now all we have are vague, frustrating details.

The guy knew that he wouldn't be too out of place with his outfit. People would probably assume it's a costume or something. Any other time and place he would evoke immediate suspicion. Probably planned this for a while.

I'm already fearing the government overreaction to this. What is it gonna be, new law, no costumes allowed in theaters?

This is so sad. Some people are just so sick. I was actually surprised that one suspect was arrested alive. This just seems like the type of thing where the guy would off himself after, or would be shot by police.

I wonder what type of theatre security measures will be taken as a result of this. Will there be a compariable TSA for movies now?
A good way to threaten somebody is to light a stick of dynamite. Then you call the guy and hold the burning fuse up to the phone. "Hear that?" you say. "That's dynamite, baby."

Entering throuhg an emergency exit can be quite easy actually... [Architect here].... most only have a simple panic bar or delayed actuator.... Often times there is a small allen key device that goes into the frame and unlocks the door, allowing someone to enter directly from the outside.

Don't even dignify that. "9gag did it", is just a running joke on 4chan, so I suppose they take this opportunity to have a good laugh as always.

What does it say? Twitter is blocked in China, would appreciate it.

She definitely puts a human face on the situation when everything is just so unclear and all we have are some infuriating and outrageous information about the general situation.

It's worth mentioning one of the first people interviewed by ch9 early this morning was a guy who said that when he went to MiB3 at that same theater previeously, they had at least 3 security guards working. No mention I can find anywhere yet if any were working during the attack, but I'd imagine it's probable.

You missed the joke. It's a common joke to blame everything on 9gag because everyone thinks 9gag is a terrible website. That's beside the point of this thread though.

Reading Jessica's twitter and blog is so haunting. The blog post just seems like foreshadowing out of a fictional story. Seems so unreal...
