Just a thread to post what you're working on and what you're listening to.

I'm currently listening to Tschaikovsky's first piano concerto and Ravel's Scarbo. I'm also listening to Tschaikovsky's D major violin concerto and a Dvorak symphony.

I'm playing two Liszt etudes, his first Paganini (the one based off of the beginning and end of Paganini's fifth caprice and Paganini's sixth caprice) and his second Transcendental.

I'm also trying to play Tschaikovsky's Violin Concerto on the Viola. It's not going too well; I'll probably end up moving everything a fifth down :[

i usually listen to classical music on my computer when i go to bed, it helps me fall asleep faster and I wake up to nice soothing music.

However this music 99% of the time includes piano compositions by Nobuo Uematsu (FF), piano remixes from OC Remix, etc.

Yeah, I did some reading about this a while ago.

I believe it's called the "Mozart Effect." Listening to Mozart gives you a temporary boost in spatial temporal reasoning (Which is used in chess

). Music supposedly has a pretty big effect on things like math/chess/etc.

I find Classical music distracting, and I can't get any work done with Mozart or anything playing in the background.
Anyway, I'm listening to silence right now, but my favourite song ever is Schumann's 3rd Symphony. I have my alarm set to that song, so I wake up to it early in the morning and often find myself lying there for 5 minutes before getting up (not that it's not like that with any other song

)

i just got back from listening to the houston symphony play the william tell overture, mozart's piano concerto in d minor, and pines of rome.

i almost forgot how much ass pines of rome kicks. off-stage brass in the balconies = balls.

i'm also currently playing english horn on rachmaninov's 2nd symphony and oboe on tchaik's 4th.

gl on the liszt transcendental etude, that entire book is fucking hard.

dvorak's 8th and 9th symphonies are also two incredible pieces of music.

pachelbel's canon in d is written by johann PACHELBEL, not mozart. i don't know where you got mozart from, but he definitely didn't write that.

I'm currently listening to Chopin's Scherzo Opus 31 in B-Flat Minor.
Chopin composed really good piano music +_+!!
And I'm also going to analyse Beethoven's Piano Sonata Opus 2 Number 2 Movement 1 & 4.
Learning those 2 pieces for the Yamaha National Competition hopefully!!

For cello I'm listening a lot to Bach's suites although I actually am not sure which exact one haha. But it's a pretty famous one I think ^^

Ah yes, a classical music thread. I was thinking abuot starting one to get some suggestions as I kind of want to get into it somewhat, but dno't know where to start. How about some good more modern classical as well as the "classics." ;D

Modern Classical look for Tabula Rasa. I've heard a few samples and I quite like it. Then again, you'll probably only like it if you're into 20th century music and the neo-classical style :$

Listen - if you want to do the piano do the following:

Don't do that Scherzo, please, it's cliched as FUCK. If you have to do a Scherzo, try No. 4, it's a much higher quality piece and if you have to do it for a piano competition it will resonate much more strongly with the judge.

Start learning Winterwind - Opus 25 No. 11, and play ALL of the Bach prelude and fugues (if those are too hard for you do all of the Three part Inventions Sinfonia)

If you need relaxation from this ultimate goal, just do some Mozart/Haydn sonatas - those are a big hit if you have to play for a family friend or on a piano that is shitty.
