i dont know whether this has been posted yet, but i have found a solution to the problem. i live in germany ergo i shouldnt be able to use grooveshark at all. but i downloaded the cocoon plugin for firefox and now it works. cocoon hides your ip adress thus you cannot be identified as german or finnish or whatever. the official website of the plugin is https://getcocoon.com/ you will need to create an account. but other than that the plugin is really simple and easy to install. important to note: works ONLY for firefox.

Well, interesting way Grooveshark goes for. We will see where this leads to. I hope Grooveshark will not close it's service.

I haven't used groove shark before but have heard about it. Does the free version (in places where it is still available) play ads, and does the $4 remove them? I'm just wondering as I pay $10 per month for spotify premium, although that's mainly do I can stream music onto my phone.

Still free in Sweden thank fuck. I'd imagine if Grooveshark went pay only all Swedish users would go back to Spotify or back to DL'ing mp3's lol.
Firebolt145: Grooveshark got no adds and no fee

there are certain ways you can avoid things like the block for germany etc.. but if you use it actively and also download from it i dont think 4€ a month is much.

Why don't people just roll spotify instead? I'm so happy with Spotify <3

Happy to be paying to use spotify which I find to be a great service, never really got into grooveshark for some wierd reason.

i use a plug-in to listen to grooveshark. it connects via a proxy but then disconnects once your in. so you get the full speed. its not illegal as far as i see here in germany. i dont know about the other contries though.
to me the internet is international and FUCK everyone i was in the internet before GEMA so please get the fuck out of my internet.
btw grooveshark is not fully legit. so save your money and use a plugin. if they are not fully legit you dant have to be either, right?

It requires a Facebook account to sign up and log in.

There are ads on the homepage, but not 'vocal' commercials in between songs.

I wonder how this is going to affect SocialMist. Grooveshark integration was one of their key features i believe. Well lets se if it can overtake facebook when it launches.

On February 14 2012 22:31 Mentalizor wrote:Why don't people just roll spotify instead? I'm so happy with Spotify <3 Its more expensive. Or then you just have to deal with not listening to a song many times, lol, I'd just use youtube instead.

So just create an alias facebook account? Your going to veto a service based on the fact you have to make a facebook account which you don't even have to use? Seems like a shallow excuse which your using to veil the under-lying reason =/
Spotify to me is the perfect middle-ground of paying absurd prices for CD's or downloading free, illegally. Does Grooveshark pay the Artists royalties? Anyone know?

hmmm that will maybe reopen it in germany... we got another site simfy.de which raises 5€/month... 4$ should be a bit cheaper.

You do realize that this is Facebook attempting to take over services to make them require Facebook to use? If your answer to everything is "create a facebook account", eventually Facebook becomes the only log-in system of the internet because there will be no downside for any business to start using a facebook login. This makes Facebook become even worse than Google in terms of privacy: FB will know every service you use and everything you do.
This is a recent change by Spotify that screws over everyone that did not register before facebook was mandatory. There is no reason to REQUIRE facebook because they have their own login system, but Sean Parker, one of Spotify's founders and a major investor in Facebook made this happen. This way Facebook is one step forward for becoming the universal login of the internet.
In the end, Facebook will be able to make money off people that are not interested in the service Facebook is providing but third party services that require a facebook account for no reason.
