If you can't make a living through your art you can't practice it full time, hence your art will never be as good as it could be. Not to mention the fact that they just deserve to be paid for producing a quality product, even if it's not a physical object.

The only positive thing is that the current music industry will probably not survive long term, the way they deal with new inventions (like cloud music streaming services or the internet in general) and their current price policies just shows that they still live in the 20th century and try to farm as long as they still can. Good thing I switched to pandora though^^

Spotify is alright but it has a much more shallow library than grooveshark.

This really doesnt pertain to anything else in this thread and has nothing to do with racism. It did make me laugh very hard though, thanks! ^^

Problem being that artists aren't gaining shit from record sales, they make their money of concerts, merchandise etc.

Not to mention the fact that they just deserve to be paid for producing a quality product, even if it's not a physical object. but you did not mention one ![]() anyways, opinions differ what art is and what not. i own about 20k vinyl records and some old and new printed arts i paid for. i support art and still wont pay for mainstream "art". the difference is you pay the industry in mainstream "arts" not the artist. we could go deaper in the matter what pop culture is, who created it and why it exist but this would be another topic. i sometimes like to listen to some easy going pop songs, tv show or a move. i live pretty healthy yet still like to sometimes eat some fat burger knowing its "unhealty". sure i have to pay for the burger but i dont care if i could not get any. therefore i belive with free "art" platforms people like me at least take notice of the "lesser" arts and maybe spread it and be free commercial.
