At that price point I suggest going to the mall and finding something that you like in terms of color (if this is your first suit, go with gray) and fit at the shoulders. After that take it to a reputable tailor and have them fix it up for you. You should budget for about $100 in alterations (hem, length of jacket, arm length, waist).

can jacket length be altered reasonably? i need to go see a tailor
|
Jacket length can only be altered by about an inch (maybe two). Any more than that and you mess with the proportions too much (the buttons and pockets will look weird). A rough guide is that you should be able to curl your fingers around the bottom edge with your arms relaxed at your side; this can depend on your body shape a bit. A stricter guide would be that it must cover your butt.

Check out brooks brothers during boxing day, they usually have huge semi annual sales in the states, which might fall on boxing day in Canada

Of course it does: you have access on that server; we do not have the same allowance.

I figure that you guys will not care for the prefaded jeans that I'm wearing, but I like 'em.
Are there any other cologne enthusiasts on this forum? I can't decide on a single scent, so I have a lot of colognes, with about four more on my list to buy sometime in the near future.

I've gotten compliments from females with Burberry for Men. Smells good, not fruity or oceany and it's pretty cheap too.

I still don't like the toes on those boots
I'm not an enthusiast by any means but i do use cologne.

I'm quite content with it, although i went through an entire bottle of CK One and part of a bvlgari before i stuck to my 3

Yeah, I think I have 21 colognes right now. So... a bit more enthusiastic than you guys, I guess. List in the spoilers, in no particular order, if you care to know.
+ Show Spoiler +D&G The One D&G The One Gentleman JPG Le Male Ralph Lauren Polo Double Black Ralph Lauren Romance Ralph Lauren Romance Silver Kenneth Cole Black Kenneth Cole Reaction Kenneth Cole Reaction Thermal Guess by Marciano Guess Seductive F By Ferragamo Creed Green Irish Tweed Creed Original Vetiver Diesel Only the Brave Ed Hardy Man Aqua Di Gio True Religion for Men Gucci by Gucci ... I'm failing to remember the other ones (I'm at work). I think one is some old Michael Jordan cologne that I got when I was a kid (my first ever cologne). It's very average and very synthetic smelling. I might also be counting some really cheap US Polo Association stuff.
On my to buy list are Terre D'Hermes, Pasha De Cartier, and H.M by Hanae Mori. That's it until I find another one that I fall in love with at a reasonable price range (i.e. not Creed anywhere outside of a swap-o-rama for $50. They just aren't good enough to shell out $225 a bottle).
As for the boots, I think they'd be a bit better without the toe, but I don't hate the toe, so I like the boots. I'm not in love with them, but I like them.

Anyone know a good place to start for redoing my wardrobe since all of my stuff has basically been hoodie and jeans from high school on?

Rugby online, if they still have that sale.
Then the other hot places people here like seem to be, in no particular order: Brooks Brothers J. Crew Banana Republic A litany of online retailers
But I guess that also depends on what kind of style you want to develop for yourself.

I really enjoy scents in general. I don't know why.
|
I like le labo rose 31 & santal 33, viktor&rolf antidote, and cdg vettiveru. I think le labo is one of the best perfume houses out there, but their scents are seriously tailored towards the initiated. hence I'm not sure if it's ok for everyday wear.
creed git is nice for extremely casual & laid back settings, but I think I like smw the best out of all their scents.
|
Creed is nice, but it doesn't last for long enough to justify the price. I got both bottles for a combined $100. I would probably wear GIT's retarded step-brother, Cool Water, over GIT if I hadn't gotten such a great price on it. They have a similar enough scent, but there's something much more crisp about GIT. The OV is okay. It's a very clean scent, but too soapy smelling, with not enough vetiver in it. Honestly, I think Creed is overrated, based on the wild reviews I've seen on their stuff on forums. They're not any better than most designers.
SMW is excellent, but I think I like Himalaya the most. I'll have to check out the two Le Labo, and the Vettiveru, they all have good reviews at basenotes.
Viktor & Rolf also makes Spicebomb, which is an excellent scent, imo.

Hmm I just realized that I get turned on by girls who smell like laundry lol. I don't know what it is, but I guess this is partly because I can't stand perfume/cologne, and it's one of those times I can smell a scent without feeling nauseated. Anyway, how do you get that laundry scent? Is it wrong for a guy to smell like that (I received mixed views from a small sample of girls)? Note: I highly doubt most of those people I come across actually wash their clothes everyday.

Softener, and drier sheets. If you have drier sheets, and access to a free drier, you can put whatever you're going to wear on the air fluff cycle (i.e. the cycle that has no heat at all) for a few minutes before wearing it. That also has the positive benefit of taking some of the wrinkles out, if you had any.
Back to my cologne obsession for a moment. I just picked up a sample of Tom Ford Noir, and it's incredible. I imagine this is what Brad Pitt smells like, despite him advertising for Chanel now. Also, I knew I was forgetting two colognes. I have Christian Audigier for men, and Zegna Intenso. To my dismay, I just found out that the CA cologne was discontinued two years ago. Tells you how often I wear it (I have a lot to cycle through!).
In completely different news, I just picked up my first ever pair of Alpha Khakis from Dockers. I'm excited to work them into an outfit. I'm not really sure what to do with them just yet, though. I'd like something more interesting than what I've been doing lately with my clothing. The last fit that I posted was okay, imo, but there was nothing that stood out in it. To me, it just looked "nice," as in unoffensive to the eyes. I'd like to add a little more "pop" to my style, something that would make what I'm wearing memorable, in a good way. I don't think the boots are good for that, to be honest. The more I look at them, the more they bore me, and remind me of shoes that someone who needs a decent pair of shoes to wear, but has absolutely no inspiration for good clothing would wear. They're very safe. I think that's why I like the high tops that I wear so much; they're really the one piece that sticks out, and I think in a good way, and makes what I'm wearing memorable. People know me for wearing some cool shoes at work now (I think they are, and I've gotten many compliments on the high tops I linked to before). In any case, I'd like that same sort of flare, but from my clothing more so than my shoes.
I was shopping this morning and stopped by J. Crew to see what they had going on (got a blue polo to wear tomorrow - decent looking, and I won't wear it very often, so it getting dog dander on it and me becoming allergic to it until it's washed won't bother me too much), and there were three people there that I though "damn, that dude has some good style." I don't think people ever look at what I'm wearing and go "man, that's a solid look." I don't know how to get that just yet, but it's where I want to be. I should probably concern myself with solidifying the basics first, though.

Yeah, once I figure out what I'm wearing today, I'll post it. I'm finding it difficult to really pair any of my clothes with these khakis.
