Clearly, TL and the community both benefit from each other, and both TL and the community do things that the other couldn't. We would not exist without each other. However, what the guy said is partly true. If everyone used adblock on TL, we'd have shut down, no matter how many people wrote news articles. It's your browser, it's your right to do whatever you wish. But we believe we're justified in asking (nicely) for you to disable it. Obviously, we'd never ban or shitlist people who use adblock, just cast righteous, elitist judgment on you. As for the "Don't Hurt ESPORTS" text, obviously it was a joke. We were making fun of people who always used that tagline no matter what. We don't actually think that. It's amazing how many people took it seriously, so many that we had to remove it. right, the community wouldn't exist without TL......

And yes, I also believe that the greater community, TL or not, would not be the way it is now without TL (and it's staff). I don't think that's an unreasonable statement to make. I edited my post to make it more clear, geez.

If a site requires me to disable adblock (MLG stream) I'd rather try to find a way around it (having to refresh stream at every commercial for MLG) than disabling adblock. I hate ads on TV, I hate them on the internet. I will never buy an item I see in an ad because I saw it in an ad. I will buy something when I go "I'd like something that does X for reason Y." and then find said item at a good price. Sorry to the sites that could use it like TeamLiquid but if I started making exceptions for sites I visit I would end up with no use for ad block since I would have them all unblocked.

He probably meant that there wouldn't be this very specific group of foreign Starcraft/poker fans doing the awesome things that they do to this day.

The internet is 500% worse without adblock; renders a lot of sites semi-unusable. Lol they're not asking you to buy shit or click on the ads on your site. You act like the internet is your holy ground or something and that NO MAN HAS THE RIGHT TO INTRUDE ON MY INTERNET SPACE. Grow up, dude. I hate ads probably just as much as you do, but for a site that I love, that generates their revenue off of the tiny ass banner ad, it's the least someone can do. FWIW I have it blocked on the entire rest of the internet and not TL, so no you aren't "forced" to unblock everywhere else you visit.

The TL community is the starcraft community, which doesn't need to TL to survive anymore. It used to be the place for everything starcraft, but honestly the only way I find it useful anymore is the streamlist and the awesome players you support.

I think some people just can't get their brain to filter out advertisements. People are saying how distracting they are, but I don't even look at them or think about them. Besides, that banner that tells me I'm a jerk for having adblock on is much more distracting than these ads.

It's not just TL. I don't see why I would make an exception for TL but not a different website. Hence, it would only make sense for me to unblock ads on TL if I unblocked them on every site I want to support, and I don't plan to do that because it would render adblock useless. I got adblock in the first place because ads were getting on my nerves.
