Still tho, why would you feel offended? I think you can only feel offended if you fit into their perspective on gamers. I loved gaming ever since I was a little boy but always did sports as well. So I do not feel addressed by the whole thing.
But it certainly shows how germans and especially the media's view did not change over the years. They are somehow always afraid of change. I really gotta say - and this might be rare for me - that I love the american approach on new things. Weirdly their view is way more open-minded than ours...

I am outraged, not because I feel offended, for I know the stereotype to be false, not because other gamers feel offended, I know they don't, for they too know the stereotype to be false, but because there are non-gamers out there who very well may believe this shit.
this is very much like raising children telling them "you should avoid the people from the other side of town, they are stupid and their stupidity might rub off on you", here they tell adults "you shouldn't be a gamer because then you will start to smell bad and lose your girlfriend if you have one".
the kids on the other side of town never get a chance to prove the statement wrong, and the children will most likely not pursue the truth in the matter, instead thinking the other side of town is where "the stupid people" live.

You all need to realize one thing: if somebody:
a) watches RTL to begin with and
b) watches THESE kinds of shows and - furthermore
c) takes them seriously
then every hope is already lost. I'm so not trolling, the level of stupidity sometimes surprises even me. What this means is, that you shouldn't be too afraid that many "normal" people watch this, let alone, take it seriously.
Just ignore it, unless you "really" care about what racist, uneducated, intolerant, xenophobic (I could go on for a long time) people think of gamers. The target audience of these kinds of shows is - in a nutshell - the scum of the german speaking society. RTL just gives them what they want to watch.
Having completed law school as one of the best of my class, I had a good laugh listening to the condescending, arrogant "student" that thinks just because she looks somewhat descent makes her a better person that can judge people that like to play games as a hobby and make fun of them.
