I'm currently an undergrad in actuarial science, not sure if I'm going to do graduate school for statistics or actuarial science (pretty similar I know) what made you choose statistics? I'm not sure exactly what your grad school program will consist of, but speaking from a UK/SA perspective I can say that the focus shifts a lot from the technical/statistical aspect to actual implementation and knowledge of the different actuarial fields. So If you want to continue studying advanced statistical methods then you should probably not choose actuarial science (although there is space for that pursuit, it's not the main focus unless you go in to academia most likely! But who goes in to academia with an act sci degree!). Many companies that employ actuaries (your life companies and such) actually also have statisticians on retainer, who the actuaries use to check their stats, consult with etc. If you choose actuarial science it's also a much more focused path that you're choosing as opposed to statistics, which can have you working in virtually any field out there. Personally I chose act sci and I love it, but you should just go with whatever you enjoy more (Which can be hard admittedly as you don't actually experience any actuarial work really in undergrad. Try to have a look at the later specialist study material or speak to actuaries to get an idea). There are certainly an abundance of job opportunities for either career world wide.

I don't love or hate it but it pays pretty damn nice for only being a year into the work force since graduating from college. It's also a pretty sweet connections/job skill builder if I decided to stay in education administration. Anyway, I'm hoping to get into grad school for fall 2012 either a PhD in evolutionary biology or MS in cellular/molecular bio. I would then use those degrees to become a professor or do research.

I notice it wasn't on the polls, perhaps it's not a common field for the gamer crowd, I don't know. I'll be happy if I can even find a job once I'm done with the current economy ![]()

I honestly have no strong aspirations other than to be a supportive wife to my husband and to ensure that I still in good shape when I reach my 30's. I have an I.T. University degree which in retrospect I consider to be not very useful. I have no further educational or career goals, although I would like to write a book on *UNDETERMINED TOPIC* at some point. I'm happier than I was when I was younger and more career-focused.

My one man team turned into a team of 4 and I now manage the team. Performing maintenance, storage upgrades, and third level support for about 300+ customers. I fucking hate it. I want to be doing eSports full time... but it does feed the family and put a roof over our heads. Do you hate it because eSports is just better or does the work actually just really suck? Also if you don't mind me asking, what educational background do you have? It really just sucks. Mostly because it's not very challenging. It was challenging in the beginning. And it was awesome. But as time goes on, you don't get that same feeling as you once did. My educational background goes from High School, to College where I majored in Computer Science, Broadcasting, and Tekken 2. I completed 3 years before I realized I hated coding and left school to take a job in the IT world during the Y2K debacle. Built up a great resume during that time and never really suffered from the lack of a degree. During that time I was also playing Quake 3 professionally and eventually turned to commentating once I couldn't balance playing and the job the way I wanted to.
