Usually yes. It's like getting yourself drunk or drugged so much you can't control yourself.

So I'd bascially have to have extraordinary circumstances trigger it before I'd have a leg to stand on?

Plan murder
Get shitfaced
Kill someone

is not the same thing as
Get shitfaced
Kill someone

So if ppl can prove you did step 1, then step 2 doesn't mitigate anything. If, however, you can convince people that you got high and killed someone during your period of insanity, without ever wanting to or having any reason to before you went crazy because of chemicals, then that could serve as a defense.

PS: teamliquid is not secret and this convo would count as evidence, but I presume you're asking "for a friend".

No, I didn't say anything about planning a murder. I'm just talking about wanting to induce a state of temporary insanity. Planning a murder has nothing to do with it.

Wanting to induce and being induced are very different

Is it normal to have an unrequited love for years?

Ask Carl Tanzler.

Unrequited love doesn't stop even at death. But at that point she can't say no anymore!

In which sports do the fans have the highest and/or lowest likelihood to be able to beat the athletes in a fight?

I've thought about it for about 5 minutes and I'm going with:

Riotball as the highest

UFC as the lowest.

Esports, chess and competitive eating count?

Assuming not, I would go with marathon runners for the highest (as long as running away isn't an option, of course), and yeah, UFC for the lowest.

I hadn't really considered them, but sure!

I was imagining people squaring off on the field of play with a circle around them (like grade school), so I'd call running losing.

Didn't think you'd find my message inside all of those posts..
But thanks for that, had a good hearty laugh!

Also: marathon running; no way. You need a shit ton of dedication to get quite a sharp time. No sane person will put that much effort into running that fast for that long without at least getting something out of it. Most amateurs run just for the experience/achievement of finishing one.
I'd go with something like skiing competitively maybe? Don't know which disciplines, but if you live near a mountain and you have the gear, you can get pretty proficient at that for relatively low effort. Also things like surfing perhaps, but I don't know how technical that is and how much innate balance talent you need.

I'd say, with everything you need a good stroke of luck and a lot of dedication and if you're blessed with a good combo and you pick the right thing as a hobby you might be able to beat the lowest pro's in anything reasonably fast though.

Things I've wondered about sports: there's only x amount of people doing y sport. But what about undiscovered talent or people that do another sport, but if they'd chosen y, they'd be able to excel in it even more? Let's say a guy chooses to become a soccer player and he's a pretty decent player, is a good attacker, quite fast. But what if he focused solely on sprinting as his profession?
Sometimes I think the fastest/most dexterous/strongest/most flexible people haven't met their match because they're just doing something else.

Edit: oh, a literal fight. Then never mind my entire text lol

GH's question depends. While chess players generally don't strike you as the fighting type, chess fans don't either. And chess is huge in russia - my experience is that being russian makes you a solid favorite over any random westerner in a fight. MMA fans on the other hand are often going to have some fighting skills themselves.

I mean look at this one ; www.cbssports.com

Still tho overall mma fighters are obviously on a different level from most fans, so it's a legit choice for least likely. But I think you could make a case for like, american football (or pro wrestling), where the average fan is in way worse shape and where the athletes are still gonna be pretty damn awesome fighters overall.

Honestly, I think fans most likely to win might be some kind of horseback riding. Jockeys are tiny, fans are frequently semi-drunks who might like to get in fights. I could see the average male horseback riding fan be able to beat the average jockey - dunno if that applies to any other sport.

Last time I went to the track half of them were drunk/angry enough to try after a huge upset in the last race.

This might be my new favorite though for most likely. There's a lot of old guys that like horse racing, but Jockys are tiny. Although, I'm partial to the argument on chess based on Russians, but I don't know enough about the competitors beyond the stereotypes.

I got an invitation for the Nikkei Asia 300 Summit. It's going to have the many major Asian CEOs, chief executives, bankers, and other figures in finance and politics.
This is obviously a big deal for people who are established in business and finance, but I am a student and I am not sure if its worth it. Should I go or am I going to be wasting time and money on a celebrity meetup?

If you are good at networking and think that meeting these people can help you open doors down the road, then it might be worth it. If you don't expect to have much interaction with these people, or don't think they'll be able to do much for you as a student then I'd pass.
