From a sexist point of view it makes sense because in college you do weak activities like studying instead of strong and testosterone-filled activities like fighting or hunting I guess? Historically, studying is a male activity... Fair enough, but I'm trying to understand it from a sexist POV d:
Well, the problem is that it is unclear whether the statement is a slight, a complement, or nonsensical.
Its like someone asking if a grain of sand is really a particle of sand and expecting us to have some kind of non-confused response.

there is no way you can construct a language with a syntax that will be equal(in phrasing) for every stinking human on this planet.
this shit - "Hits like a truck", is very offensive. my <xxx> were hit by a truck and died. how can you be so inconsiderate!?. stop trivializing my pain. false equivalency.the phrase "hits like a truck" is not demeaning to trucks and actually has a positive connotation since it implies a truck hits hard. just like the phrase "hits like a girl" is not demeaning to all girls. that wasn't the point though. i wasn't equivalenting anything. the idea there was about offense/getting offended because that is what is troubling to Thieving Magpie. my believe is that even if no girl will be offended by the phrase "hits like a girl", Thieving Magpie will still dedicate his life and try to change it based on his own perception of what offense/offensive is/means/entails. i find his whole endeavor futile. i can purposely create offensive phrases just to give meaning to his life. how about that. i'd work the people and not the phrasing/syntax. once you cure someone of being offended, he will remain like that for life, not until the next offensive catch phrase. I feel all of you guys are completely missing the point... it is not about offending people. It is about associating discriminated groups with undesirable properties. but those undesirable properties could be only in your head. i don't see anyone making polls to find out the amount of girls discriminated and with that particular undesirable propriety; so all everyone is doing here, is assuming stuff then swj-ing because they know better of course. all i'm saying is that your theory does not (fully)apply to real life but you don't care about that as long as you get your holy war going. I'm trying to make sense of your post, and I am struggling a bit, partially because I don't know what swj-ing is. I don't care for the personal analysis either, thanks you very much. I think (part of) my point is that the undesirable properties are not only in my head, but in everyones, which may be part of the cause of the discrimination. And gender studies is a huuuuge field of research, so don't be so quick to assume things haven't been done. Not that I understand exactly what you claim hasn't been done though. But I am not sure if that addresses your standpoint. Anyway, I don't see this conversation going anywhere good, so I think I'll just drop it, sorry. i learned about swj on TL. it means social justice warrior. I bet it doesn't You sure messed up that acronym a bunch of times lol. And besides, what do you expect? People are going to inject their philosophies and values into any sort of conversation or debate, as well as try to argue from other perspectives. It's really easy to write people off as SJW (not SWJ), but instead you should be focusing on their statements. Saying "lol SJW" is basically an ad hominem. In Romanian it probably spells out SWJ. I think Romanian is pretty close to Italian, and in Italian it'd be more like "social warrior of justice".
No, it wouldn't. It would be something like Guerrero de Justitia Soziale, but this is me making shit up based on 2 holidays in Italy and fluency in Spanish and Portuguese Either way, I don't think there is a W for Warrior in there, and even more seriously, you are misplacing the adjective (I think, although it is ambiguous enough in English to be a clever play on words):
Social Justice Warior could be (and presumably initiailly meant as) a [Social Justice] Warrior, or someone who fights for social equality. However it could also be read as (and your paraphrasing reads it like this) a Social [Justice Warrior], which is a "Justice Warrior" (lets not ask too much what that is, but I am getting He-Man flashbacks here) who happens to be chatty and friendly (or hangs out on Facebook too much).

Anywaaaaaaaay, to move on to another stupid question: Some of you might have heard of the 'ITER Organization', localized in France, (it is a project to try out fusion by magnetic confinement as an energy source), but the specific thing is that once you go through the fences, you are not in France any more, you are in ITER Organization, with its own laws (most are the one from France, but not only) and law enforcement persons etc... Do any of you know about other places in similar case in the world (embassy and consulates excluded)? The Itaipu dam and hydroelectric power plant on the border between Brazil and Paraguay.

In fact, all the info I can find on the internet points toward there being a lot of true believers in a flat earth, although I will readily agree with you that plenty of people join the Society for a hearty laugh at the monthly newsletters and annual bbq.

I just don't see why that should be. Not sure about this specific brand, but more expensive pasta in general is often made from better flour. You notice the difference in taste (cheaper pasta taste like water), and also in consistency: cheap pasta goes from rock hard to dissolving in a matter of seconds almost when you boil it, while expensive pasta stays at the right amount of bouncy (all dente) for a much longer window.
But you need the opinion of a proper Italian I think.

Hmm, did I get it wrong? It was a few years ago, but I remember I got pretty convinced it was fake. I think it was how some of their status message and so on were overly stereotypical, and how readily they engaged in discussion with all the people that came to "troll" them, while in fact (I think) they were the trollees. I think reading the site as a bunch of trolls having a good time just seemed to fit more with the general tone of their posts than a bunch of highly conservative conspiracy theorists.
But I agree, if it's a fake, it's really well done, and I am not completely sure. Could it be a mix of true believers and trolls? Maybe time for another visit?

I don't think it works like this anymore. The sexual differences in intelligence (still very much in research) don't seem to be that big. Education (at any level) gives you information. This information builds more and more onto itself as you get to higher levels of education. And I have no idea what thinking in a linear fashion means. I mean, if I understand correctly, it is linear. You have a foundation, and everything gets placed onto that.

It might have to do with drying it. Even though an individual piece has more surface area it can't be held vertically like spaghetti making it harder to dry. Also, stores might sell less of it and stock it less too so sales aren't as common.

You have a room with two windows, it is cool outside and hot inside but there is no wind at all. What is the most efficient way to cool down the indoor? You may use an electric fan. -Opening both windows and let it be -Opening both and putting the fan in the room -Opening both and putting the fan on one windows blowing inward -Opening both and putting the fan on one windows blowing outward -Same with only one window open -Other?
|
I imagine both windows plus fane in middle of room to create the most circulation inside of the room - the difference between warm inside/cold outside should itself create enough circulation to ensure good exchange. I have absolutely nothing to back these assumptions up with though.
|
Depends on the size and position of the windows, the power and shape of the fan, the temperature difference, the size and shape of the room, the position of the fan, the position and shape of furniture, the viscosity of the air, the presence of hot/cold bodies.

how do you add stars to a poll?
|
open both windows. have the fan at the bottom end of a window blow inwards+downwards. basically you'd aim for a flow of air that facilitates the movement of cold air below and the hot air above, inside the room.
