Half way through this movie, you know exactly what's going to happen. Sure, it's cool to actually watch it unfold with Fukasaku's (RIP) cool visuals, but afterwards it just felt entirely too predictable.

I like BR because it's engagingly self-opposed-it doesn't let you take it too seriously but it never lets you forget the brutal honesty of the needs that take root in our primeval desires.

The depth of this movie are many fathoms beyond what the average film buff can comprehend. It's a tale of love and compassion-locked up in a not so implausible premise. If the philosophical meanderings escape you then you can blame that on the pretentious Hollywood drivel that abjectly fail to honestly portray the dark side of human behaviour. I like BR because it's engagingly self-opposed-it doesn't let you take it too seriously but it never lets you forget the brutal honesty of the needs that take root in our primeval desires. Hahahahaha. Good lord, don't quit your day job, Ebert. Do you really think sticking kids on an island with weapons and forcing them to kill each other has anything to do with depth and "philosophical meanderings"? This wasn't a bold statement about human nature, or the will to survive, it was typical, spoonfed, bullshit posturing that people like you eat up in fistfulls. Love and compassion? The brutal honesty of the needs that take root in our primeval desires? Sure thing, and Dude, Where's My Car? is about a teenager's eternal, futile struggle for universal approval. You don't know me, or what I watch, so save the half-witted jabs for your fellow mathletes. If you honestly found "depths" of meaning in this film, it's only because you're the one who has absolutely no conception of how a great film can convey emotion. I don't blame you for being ignorant, but I do when you go out of your way to be a dick about something you obviously have no frame of reference for.

I don't know what you watch, but from what you've written, you sound like an uppity pup waiting for a citizen kane prequal. And since when did emotion, or the provocation of it, become the yardstick for good cinema? BR portrays a raw microcosm of society. Plain and simple. If anything, it's an ATYPICAL movie-and that's what people appreciate about it.

What's your idea of a good movie? Excellent lighting and a script rife with obscure witticism? I don't know what you watch, but from what you've written, you sound like an uppity pup waiting for a citizine kane prequal. Mindless stab #2. An uppity pup? Nice slam, gramps. That said, any shred of credibilty flies out the window when you take jabs at Citizen Kane. I know you'd love to believe you're the only person who understands the poor, tortured foreign directors whose lofty ideas fly over us silly roundeye Americans, and we all fawn over American cinema needlessly, but you really just look like an arrogant cocksucker. And since when did emotion, or the provocation of it, become the yardstick for good cinema? Only since the beginning of narrative film, as anyone with any basis in film study would tell you. BR portrays a raw microcosm of society. Plain and simple. So do countless other films. I guess Mean Girls rocketed to the top of your list too, huh? If anything, it's an ATYPICAL movie-and that's what people appreciate about it. Oh, well there's a reason to give give it a A++ if I've ever heard one! Hurray for something being marginally different! The only depths I can't fathom here are the ones you'll go to to prove you're smart. Pity all you're doing is spouting shit you can't back up because you don't understand it.

If you're going to be condescending, it usually helps to have some basis for your idiotic claims. Yeah, that's powerfully put. It's funny that you should mention condescension but then go on to discredit my taste in movies. Haha, I could beat him with the pot lid Just make sure you don't swing too hard-you might hit the kettle on the back burner. An uppity pup? Nice slam, gramps. That said, any shred of credibilty flies out the window when you take jabs at Citizen Kane And all my doubts of you being a film student, formal or not, has completed dissipated. I don't care if you think you know more about the ligaments of a movie more intimately than the rest of us, you still don't have a right to tell me what I can and can't interpret from a movie. You can tell me if a movie had good lighting, appropriate seques and casting-but only when hell becomes the frozen tundra will you have the right to tell me what I'm suppose to feel and what message I'm suppose to get from a movie. I know you'd love to believe you're the only person who understands the poor, tortured foreign directors whose lofty ideas fly over us silly roundeye Americans, and we all fawn over American cinema needlessly, but you really just look like an arrogant cocksucker Insinuations and inferences. Believe it if you think it makes your argument stronger. So do countless other films. I guess Mean Girls rocketed to the top of your list too, huh? Clever. Well, not really-since it's just a rehash of every other joke you've managed to churn out in this pitiful rant. Tell me, during film study, did they ever cover the units that dealt with the positive qualities of originality or were those lecture notes lost and buried? The only depths I can't fathom here are the ones you'll go to to prove you're smart Do you even read the things that you write? You sound like stringent snob with a penchant for mindless frenzies.
