Got stung by a bee on the palm of my head when I was very little, been deathly scared of bees ever since :<. Spiders as well (but I'm cool with Daddy Longlegs 8-]).

Cockroaches frighten the daylight out of me. Once I had a 30 minute battle with a cockroach where I had trapped it in the corner but was too scared and disgusted to go in for the kill. Finally I went in with a war cry (at 3am), killing the cockroach in a glorious victory. Then I spent 5 minutes working up the courage to scoop up the corpse.

I never harm them, though I don't like them I feel proud when I can get it out of the house while not killing it.

holy shit, reading this thread made me appreciate living in a city in the netherlands where the only bugs i encounter are bees and flys.

Fucking hell at some of the spiders and insects posted here, giving me fucking chills over my body. I am paranoid for each insect i see and i must slay it immediatly, but some of the things i've seen here i'm afraid will fight back (and win)

it's that not i'm afraid of bugs, it's just they're so FUCKING DISGUSTING i'd rather not let them get close to me with the possibily of touching my precious skin

so what i usually do for any bug is i evade them at first, and when i've detected it, i proceed to try to kill it and won't stop until it's dead.

Living in a country where the most dangerous insect is probably a wasp or something... I'm curious to all the pictures posted of the giant spiders, centipedes etc. How often do you guys encounter things like that, are they actually just crawling around in your house? Also, do they appear in a certain climate or specific area of your country? For example I see a lot of Australians with pretty large insect pictures, are they for example only in dry area's inland or more at the coast, or just anywhere?

I've only ever been bitten by a bee once and it wasn't that bad, needless to say I still have an unending hatred towards all forms of biting insects. Just yesterday my dad was bitten by a huge black wasp

and his palm swelled tremendously as well as his forearm becoming incredibly red. If I ever see one of those insects approaching me with malicious intent (I guess they are all malicious), I will certainly kill it.

I took invertebrate zoology last semester, so I'm not really afraid of them, more interested in them. I'll admit I still jump when something flies straight at my face, but I'm not going to see a bug and freak out.

yeah, just checked the dictionnaires and you're semantically correct. still, when someone declares himself afraid or scared of something, i don't portray him fighting it back till it's over.

it's like when u see a punk in the streets: most people would evade him, but not because they think he will win them in a fight or w/e, but because they know there is a good chance that the punk will bring them problem. it is pointless to engage in a fight against something you gain nothing of, unless you can win without recieve any harm. imo it is a wise approach to beware yourself from being harmed in any situation.

anyways i'm not trying to man it up, i'm just a city kid who hasn't seen any huge ass bug ever and i'd probably be actually scared as fuck if i saw some of those big hairy spiders and huge ass flying bugs. i'm just trying to make you see what's the difference in my mind between being cautious and being scared.

If I can positively identify it as something that will likely sting/bite me, then I'll whack it. Everything else, no matter how wriggly with a thousand legs and big fluttery wings it may be, I'll catch in a glass or something and put it outside. As long as it's not gonna injure me in any way, then I'm cool with it. I'd still duck out of the way if a moth was flying right at my face though.

Also, I don't count spiders in the 'likely to sting/bite' category. I'll generally just leave them alone, or even rescue them if they're hanging out in the bath or something like an idiot. I live in the UK so the only spider I'm even a little worried about picking up are brown house spiders:

and they aren't actually venomous, but they can bite through skin so I avoid picking them up with my hands. (For those living in the US you might be thinking 'AHH, HOBO SPIDER'. It's in the same family, but it's not venomous. In fact, if you have house spiders they will keep the hobo spiders out by competing for their food supply.)

Stop being scared of non-venomous spiders people! They're on our side! They eat all the irritating flying things that get inside - I never have flies buzzing against the inside of my windows for long because my spider buddies take care of it for me. SPIDERS 4 LYFE o/

Edit: Wikipedia seems to think it's called a giant house spider, I think. I've heard them called all sorts of things. Is there some sort of centralised database for identifying spiders?

Bugs are not allowed where I sleep or where I shit. I usually don't go out of my way to murder any insects that follow those two rules.... unless company is coming over...
