How can you people think it's two that's the correct answer I don't understand? This is fucking scary that 67% thinks it's two!

As the other people said its 288.

48÷2(9+3) = ((48/2)(9+3))=24*12=288

No. You do parenthesis first (12) then multiplication (2 x 12 which is 24) and then divsion (48/24) which is in fact = 2.

Multiplication and division are done left to right, since they're in the same tier in the order of operations.

So you don't count the brackets as multiple by... brackets? :O

it's 288. Division and multiplication are equal in priority so it is read left to right.

48/2*(12)

24*12=288

WTF are people thinking.

Well consider one that has only like primary education mathematic knowledge. They could sure do it wrong. It's not hard to imagine. It's however hard to imagine they still don't understand it after people explain it.

The point of Bedmas is to get rid of brackets first.

PEMDAS.
First: (9+3)=12
This gives you (48) / (2) * (12)
Order of operations says multiplication and division are done in the same step, therefore if you have both remaining, you go in the order that they show up.
So (48) / (2) is first. 24.
(24) * (12) is 288.
Disappointed to see so many twos.

P.S. Yes I know in PEMDAS multiplication comes first, but PEMDAS should really be PE(MD)(AS), since multiplication and division, along with addition and subtraction, are done in the same step.

Edit: Had multiple frowny faces due to parentheses =(

Its BIDMAS surely?

48÷2(9+3)

Brackets mean this comes first = 9+3 = 12
The number out side of brackets prioritises over division so;
2*12=24

48/24 = 2.

Right? Or did i mis-memorise something.

I probably would've gotten it right if the poll wasn't staring me in the face. I was trying to make the answer two.

The brackets change the priority of the division, we're trying to get rid of brackets first.
48 / 2(9+3)
= 48 / 2(12)
= 48 / 24
= 2

Obviously 288, but it tries to trick you by getting you to do this:

48 / (2*12)
48 / 24
2

instead of this:

48 / 2 * 12
24 * 12
288

Gotta remember, solve the brackets then re-evaluate!

PEMDAS. Its not their fault...

Parentheses exponents multiplication division addition subtraction.

48 divided by 2(9+3)
48 divided by 2(12)
48 divided by 24
2
We were all raised on televion that made us believe we'd all be Millionairs, Movie gods, and Rockstars..... But we won't.... We are slowly learning that fact. And we are very, very pissed off.
