Someone should give Obama another peace prize.

Assad is a dictator who has killed tens of thousands of his own citizens, some of them with chemical weapons. If he wants the world to give a fuck about what he thinks maybe he shouldn't have done that?

Obama isn't throwing shells into residential areas with the intent of spreading terror.

You forget the part where the people of Syria and Iraq themselves consider them terrorists. Even ISIS' few "supporters" in Iraq consider them terrorists, but are in a marriage of convenience after all the infinite damage and grievances the US and Maliki caused in creating a sectarian society out of a united one, or the part where the US disbanded the entire effective, professional Iraqi military and murdered all the competent politicians and technocrats in the country. LOL. Great idea!

So yes, it's not just Obama who says they're terrorists. Practically everyone except ISIS considers ISIS to be terrorists. Even Al Qaeda doesn't like them.

The Syrian Army has some of the most formidable air defenses in the middle east. Do they fire on American jets bombing ISIS? No.

I just searched the net, I found no evidence for any protest from Assad's side, only Iran and Russia are protesting for obvious reasons, Syria apparently backs the strikes:

http://www.haaretz.com/news/middle-east/.premium-1.617478

"Syria supports any international counterterrorism effort" doesn't sound like a protest from Assad's mouth really:

http://www.sana.sy/en/?p=13927

And while the US claims that there is no cooperation with the Syrian government, they are happy to let their "ally" Iraq talk to Syria about fighting terrorism a lot.

Let's not kid ourselves, this is a huge win for Assad. Of course he would prefer open cooperation with the west and take any offer in a heartbeat as long as he stays in power, but this is the next best thing.

You're forgetting what happened before a few days ago. Before that, Assad opposed any sort of US bombing of Syria.. It prompted Obama to say:

If Assad's troops fired at American planes entering Syrian airspace, "Obama said he would order American forces to wipe out Syria’s air defense system," Baker reports. "He went on to say that such an action by Mr. Assad would lead to his overthrow, according to one account."

Then Assad met with Iraqi diplomat Faleh Fayyad, and afterwards, Assad (it's unclear if it was the result of his meeting with Fayyad) took a different stance.

Killing innocent people and spreading terror don't make you a terrorist. Murder, torture, rape, and theft do not make you a terrorist. Being a threat to the stability of the Middle East* and therefore the world oil supply makes you a terrorist. Terrorism only applies when you do bad things with small weapons. When you do bad things with large weapons it's just a 'necessary evil' or 'unfortunate consequence'.

Does anyone know anything about Tikrit? US news is awfully silent on what's going on in one of ISIS's most important strongholds. I haven't heard much in the past couple weeks but apparently it's mostly cleared of ISIS?

It's like we don't report about anything good happening in the fight against ISIS if we didn't contribute at all, which honestly I don't understand, while Iraqi military forces and Kurdish/Arab militias have been pushing them back day-to-day. Iraqi and Kurdish forces are even right outside Mosul last I heard, and that was several days ago.

This reminds me of a discussion with a guy who was saying that insurgents are automatically terrorists.
I don't know how comfortable many Americans would feel about George Washington being labeled a leader of a massive terrorist army. :3

Also, doing bad things with large weapons is only "necessary" evil or "unfortunate consequence" when it's America. Otherwise, it's just plain Satanic sadistic evil, at least according to our propaganda. :D

Well...Obama could have always just issued an official statement that "There are no American planes in Syria! They are apart of the Free Syrian Self-Defence Forces!". I'm sure that would've sounded better for the Russians and Iranians to hear.

It's only been a day since Assad changed his position. The Russians and Iranians need a bit of time to catch on lol.

Source? 'Well we can't give you a source, it all top secret you see'.

Well at least some of the US military equipment that was given to ISIS in Syria and stolen in Iraq will be destroyed, the only people that lose are the US taxpayers. Good job Obama.

If Assad had foreign NGO's fund and organize color coded protests with intricate banners in major world languages for easier international digestion and pay people 4-5 euro's a day to jump in the street this forum would be singing a very different tune.

Maybe our Nobel laureate has more to do with this mess than some people think.

Apparently Syrian radar was "passive"
QUESTION: But you said that Assad, the Syrians were informed through the U.N. that this was gonna happen. We've heard a lot about their air defense system being very robust.

Were any of your aircraft painted with radar coming in? Was their radar turned off? Was there anything along those lines you can share with us?

MAYVILLE: Yeah, the target acquisition last night, radar acquisition on the part of Syria I would characterize as passive.

QUESTION: They turned it off, or what?

MAYVILLE: I won't get into specifically what we know they did, but I think it would be fair to say the assess last night was a passive radar.

U.S. is targeting ISIS mineral lines:
The U.S. and some of its Arab coalition partners have conducted another round of airstrikes in Syria, hitting oil refineries that have fallen into the hands of Islamic State militants, who officials say are funding themselves with the petroleum revenues.

The Pentagon says 13 airstrikes hit a dozen "modular" oil refineries in eastern Syria. The refineries are thought to produce $2 million worth of refined petroleum each day for the self-declared Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL.

Good for them. Now that we have graciously liberated the syrian people from their economy they will be sure to thank us!

You don't see the difference between civilian casualties while fighting terrorists/an enemy faction and butchering your own population because they get in the way of your dictatorship?

In Germany a law was made that makes ISIS an illegal organization. This makes it easier to arrest people carrying ISIS flags or to arrest people trying to recruit soldiers etc... I don't think such laws were established in Norway. Maybe carrying an ISIS flag is just not illegal over there.

Its more similar than you think. Those civilians are in the way of our imperialism.

The ONLY reason we care about ISIS is that they threaten to destabilize the oil market. There are other groups just as vile as ISIS in other regions of the world, like Boko Haram for instance, but no one cares because there's no oil there.

Terrorist is a buzzword, just like McCarthy's "Communist".

McCarthy's use of the word communist in a manner similar to what we would define as a buzzword does not make the word itself a buzzword. Analogously, the frequent contemporary use of the word terrorist in the style of a buzzword does not make all uses of terrorist buzzword-like.

Destabilize the oil market? Oil prices have been trending downward for the last 2 years. And there is plenty of oil in Nigeria...
