Just saw a statement by Japanese pm stating nuclear power plants had been affected but no confirm of leak. Hopefully there isn't one. I am due to go to japan in 4 days. | ||

I live in Yokohama which is about 40 km from Tokyo, and to my knowledge there hasn't been much damage - in this area. My family has contacted my dad who lives in Tokyo and he's said that everything is ok. Up in Sendai though, different story. | ||

Such a gigantic earthquake. Remember that the Richter scale is logarithmic... so to put this in context it's roughly 500 times larger than the earthquake that devastated Christchurch last month and probably killed over 200 people (including a number of Japanese tourists). From what I've been hearing, people generally have made it out ok... so hopefully we'll continue to hear that as we learn more. | ||
