According to some posts on Reddit, this photo is fake >< Original image Reddit post Ah pity, I'll read that when I get home. Although I suppose it is not really a pity, and really though, a faked picture (while it actually holds less merit) can be just as effective as a real one. Not if you know it is fake, but you know what I mean; when I saw that picture it affected me greatly, and although now I know it may be fake, it still did have a moment where I felt something very real because of it, and in my opinion that is what makes a great picture. ![]() In this May 17, 1980 photo, 30-year old vulcanologist David Johnston is shown in the evening at his camp near what is now known as Johnston Ridge near Mount St. Helens. At 8:32 a.m. the next morning, Johnston radioed a message to the USGS headquarters: "Vancouver, Vancouver, this is it!", shortly before he was killed by the massive eruption of the volcano that also killed 56 others. ![]() Mount St. Helens exploding.

![]() In a laboratory, blood is drawn from horseshoe crabs. For decades it’s proved vital to biomedical companies that must screen vaccines, IV fluids, and medical devices for bacteria that can be fatal in our bloodstream. The crabs’ blood coagulates instantly when it touches pathogens like E. coli and Salmonella. So sensitive is the test derived from the proteins that it can detect amounts as slight as one part per trillion. The live crabs are returned to the sea. The estimated mortality rate is 15 percent. ![]() No, your eyes do not decieve you. The above is a genuine medieval manuscript in which a woman is harvesting a basket full of dicks from a tree. Why? Well, one can only presume if they weren't harvested while firm, they would go soft and eventually fall off the tree? I really don't know. Apparently this sort of thing happened often in medieval times, because backtracking through links, I found a post that included this carving as well: ![]() And further research yielded this illumination: ![]() I gathered my courage and Google image searched, and it turns out that this may not have been just some medieval superstition... there is modern photographic evidence of this happening with a passion fruit tree in Brazil: ![]() But that's not all! This has happened on at least three other types of trees: ![]() ![]() ![]() So yeah. I learned something tonight. Penises grow on trees. Nature. Well then... Had to reblog this ![]()

I'm not sure if I'm more amazed by learning something new or by learning they don't just chuck them in a garbage bin afterwards. I'm pleased enough to think this worth 1000 words; that small but consequential act of human kindness for a creature that helps our modern life.
