Someone will ask me "What is Teamliquid?" And I'll be honest I'm not to 100% sure on how to respond to them in a way that sounds interesting and cool. It usually happens like this
Him/Her: "What's Teamliquid" Me: "A Professional Gaming website" Him/Her: "Uh huh.."
or
Him/Her: "What's Teamliquid?" Me: "A professional gaming website" Him/Her: "Soo you're a nerd/geek? Me: "Yup "
I still manage to attract ladies though
But other then that, that's how the conversations usually go.. so question is, how do you or should I respond when someone asks "What is Teamliquid?"
if it is someone who is nerd/geek inclined, I say that is it an online gaming community. if it is someone who I don't really care about or think won't understand, I say its the largest online English speaking community of horse fanciers.

horse fanciers haha
that sounds even worse lol, like some barnyardfun type of website
Is it one of the biggest gaming forums online? Or maybe one of the biggest forums online period? I'm actually asking, I don't know, how big is Teamliquid compared to the BIG forums on the internet?
The best answer is probably just "What?! You've never heard of TeamLiquid??" You need to have the right amount of disbelief and outrage on your face to pull it off.

I've actually done that before and got a few people to start posting here because of it. lmao

I really love this idea.
I would probably say "It's a gaming forum." People know what games and forums are, so you should be in good shape.
If its a guy, i tell them its a starcraft website. If its a girl i say a video game site. If she sticks her nose up i stick my dick in their mouth don't give a fuck because i probably think i'm too hot for her anyways. Thats the required attitude.

definetly not. TL is small.
I wouldn't say it's small. There was a news post either last year or the year before how the unique visitors per [day/week/month -- I forget which] had exceeded like 20,000. It's only grown since then in the wake of the Starcraft II announcement and the beta.
I'd venture to say as far as video game fansites go, TL is probably one of the largest on the internet. As far as gaming sites in general go, it's probably average size.
And sort of on topic: I want to order a TL shirt but the light blue is ugly (for a shirt -- works for the forums) and can't be worn as an undershirt for anything. I tend to wear fairly nice button up shirts and I'm always on the lookout for nice undershirts in case I'm in a more casual setting. IE, my Blizzcon 2005 murloc t-shirt is my favorite undershirt :D
Person: What's TeamLiquid? Me: Do you know the meaning of life? Person: uhh.. no. Me: Do not worry my child, one day you will find teamliquid, you will have a revelation, and you will shrug at all the worlds problems with indifference. Go now my child, find the meaning of life that is teamliquid. Person: Freak! *sprints away* Me: Kids these days.. *sighs loudly, finishes beer and returns to the prty*
i was REALLY hoping that those links were going to be the opposite of what they were supposed to be. like if it were "highly intelligent" you would have some thread where people were just trolling/being stupid.

lol wtf starcraft brood war is dead and nobody knows what it is a few more people know starcraft 2, because its about to come out and stuff, but TL is fucking small o.O

Yea, I was really expecting to get the high thread when I click the the high hyperlink.

This.
I guess I look at it for those who, like myself, have been here awhile. If your covering up being on this site all the time after buying swag or the like. Why are you here? If you can't proudly say your part of the community while wearing stuff advertising it stop doing so.
depending on who I'm talking to I'll usually say TL is a water polo team, if they believe that, i'll continue on about how we face off against the likes of team solid and team plasma. I'll eventually relent and explain that it is a starcraft site
Here's how the conversation goes with all my coworkers:
Him/Her: "What's Teamliquid?" Me: "A starcraft progaming website" Him/Her: "..." Me: "The site with the NSFW thread your are always browsing through?" Him/Her: "Ah yeah, that Teamliquid, right, right...btw did you see the one with the monkey raping a frog?" Me: "...go away"
Stranger: "Wow! A Team Liquid shirt! That StarCraft community is so awesome!" Me: "Huh?" + Show Spoiler +
K, that never happened, but I think I would actually react like that because I really don't expect anyone to know what I'm talking about.
I usually answer with "An awesome community on the internet" I kinda wonna say more coz I don't see who wouldn't like it... For god's sake, the Plotts' mom is on here man. But as it turns out, people just don't get it.
On July 16 2010 04:57 101TFP wrote: The first rule of Teamliquid is you don't talk about Teamliquid.
End of story.
except Teamliquid is a bit more social than that ^__^
i just say something along the lines of,
the greatest site on the internet, you should go there some time, I guarantee you will find something you like there even if you arent a Starcraft player
they respond: "whats Starcraft" (unless ofc they know about SC2)
you could say its a place where i can watch the most exciting replays of sports events out there and then there is a forum too that is totally free from assholes.
it just happened to me few days ago. a friend asked where did I get some news we talked about and I said: "it was from teamliquid.net, a big internet community.".
I felt like if I mention it's a gaming website, I would be giving him a limited notion of what TL.net really is.
trying mad hard to sound salesy. it's a turnoff, unnecessary, and just confuses.
no reason for all that passionate business when that's something common to all forums. "forum" ya u talk about other stuff, but what forum doesn't have sections for other stuff? the main topic is starcraft here. "starcraft"
I always say it's the shirt they give to proud and brave warriors, one step up from the Congressional Medal of Honor, the equivalent of being knighted - and if it's a lady...it means it's my license to mack her face.
Or you can say its a bunch of ravers club if you're to embarrassed to ademiting your geekdom. Then do a quick figure 8 and ppl will probably fall for it.
`When my brother asked me yesterday I told him it's a forum mostly consisting of 20-22 year old students discussing culture, politics. This is only a part of it, I tailored the answer for him since it' so much more. That's my point though. One day it's a forum where you discuss philosophy, the next day it's purely starcraft, thereafter just Highthreading.

hahaha, the horse fanciers made my day! I think they should make a shirt with the horse as the background. That would get some questions :D
Has there been some discussion about a new t-shirt design? I hate to say it, but I think the current one with the winged horse above the shield is fairly hideous.
I wear Starcraft shirts and my TL shirt all the time. People honestly don't care. Nerds are taking over the world!! Although my gf still thinks its weird. QQ

most people have heard of tl? ???
i own one of the tl shirts with the sandlot logo on it, and i wore it to highschool a few years ago. no one asked what it was, but i got called a fag like 5 times.
Momafter I was talking about Starcraft* So, that website you always go to, is that about starcraft? Me: Teamliquid? No, that's a porn site. Mom*stares* What? *starts to say something* Me: *laughs* Dont worry I was kidding.

It's like Team Edward and Team Jacob, but instead of homosexual sparkling vampires, there's a rift in people's preference for a state of matter. Team Liquid is bitter enemies with Team Solid. Nobody likes to talk about Team Gas.

When we have Science Bowl/Ocean Science Bowl practice every week, it is tradition to pick names for each 5-man team. Since I'm the scorekeeper, I end up with the final say -I always pick TeamLiquid! No one has asked me what TeamLiquid is.

my best answer was "you'know lemonade stands, you know there were like kids who sold more lemonade than others as they were things like - more intelligent, had better advertiseing, more lemonade pouring skill.... stuff like that. Team liquid is like were all those kids go to talk about lemonade"
I remember when PJ was in a Chinese program (similar of Bnet attack) and he was playing against TSL-Morrow in ICCUP, the host of the Chinese program asked him what is "TSL", PJ shrugged and answered "A tournament that won't let us Chinese participate"

fucking weirdos man.
i wear my cj entus shirt a lot and i don't think i've had one person ask me what it was.
Well this topic is awesome and im feeling like Bumping it since all the new users(and everyone who miss it the first time) should read this one and give their opinion.
I was looking through GSL results the other day on the computer in the crew room at my workplace, and a girl I used to have a thing with was all;
'What's Team Liquid?' 'It's a Starcraft website.' 'I still don't know what Starcraft is, because I'm not a loser. Sounds like a shitty version of Runescape or something.' 'Ok number one; I WILL KILL YOU. Number two; shut the fuck up bitch you told me once you completed Dragon Age in one sitting you shameless little nerd. Now fuck off.'
Then I backhanded her hard in the face, laughed like a pirate, and had sex with her on the table.
