Actually the faulty assumption is that moving one end of the stick instantaneously moves the other end. At a small scale, its not unlike a large slinky or sponge. Regarding the atom split, no, you destroy the atom, its MASS is turned into ENERGY. free energy is ENERGY coming from NOTHING. Atom split doesn't give you energy from turning mass into energy, rather from changing the atom stability. Vacuum cleaner, energy to power vacuum. It's rather the same thing like that one with a magnet. Imagine for a moment what kind of inertia a stick one lightyear long would have. With that kind of mass, it would bend and buckle long before you exerted enough force to move the entire thing. Even if the stick was 1 meter long and we could transfer information faster than light, it would be something big.
