I know sequels are always timed perfectly with DVD releases, but this is a little different. You see what Tarentino did was a great elaboration on this concept. Instead of making two movies, as stated above, Tarentino made one movie. He took the first third of the movie("volume 1." ) and stretched it way out unnecessarily so it would occupy the time a full length feature. Then to preempt any fallout over a bad movie, Tarentinto's studio hyped the movie into orbit, insuring it a decent gross. Then comes the second 2/3 of the movie. This time its actually very good and deserves to have people go and see it. With that fresh image in mind, people are much more likely to go out and purchase the mediocre DVD (if you've seen the DVD you know there wasn't any extra features on there) right after they go pay $9 to see Volume 2. I must say this was a genious thing to do.

oh what?
I originally heard that the movie was actually way too long, being like 6 hours or whatever. And he did not want to cut anything out so he simply just cut the movie in half and released them on separate dates..
Kind of like how LotR, all 3 were filmed at once and split up over 3 years

I also heard it was the studio's decision. I don't think they wanted to try to sell a movie that was more than 3 hours long.

What you heard is what they said. Anything they say is to make money. Don't forget how corporations are. And if you think tarentino wasn't behind they whole thing, you're wrong.

originally it should be one movie, but tarantino wrote extra scenes while shooting the film and so the studio left the decision to him to split the movie or cut it to regular length

both volumes are really good movies, but Pulp Fiction is IMO still his masterpiece

Hmm. I always assumed conspiracy theorists had better things to ponder. During the conception stages of the movie, Tarantino envisioned a serialized movie, making each chapter a full feature, and having run anywhere from six to ten chapters. The Weinstiens nixed this idea beacause it would simply cost too much, Tarantino or not. Tarantino settled back into the idea that it would be one or two parts. While shooting, Tarantino shot way over budget, and shot many more rolls of film than ususal. When Tarantino then presented the idea of two or three, Miramax said two, released in close succession. The first one was released in early November of last year, I think around the 16th. The second part was slated for early February, around the 14th I believe. As it happened, aroudn Christmas, Miramax decided it was more important to promote Cold Mountain, and pushed it back past the original DVD release date, which was already set.

The first movie was as good as the second. Wasn't too long for me.

i felt the exact opposite. vol2 is much more 'stretched' than vol1. QT cut most of the quality action scenes into vol1. And action lovers are more impulsive right, so they all rush to watch the sequel once it comes out. When they found out it's not what they expected its allready too late. Disappointed they'll go get the vol1 DVD to revive their dear memory.
On the other hand drama lovers would generally trust those gay critics, and after reading some positive reviews from NY times etc they'll also go watch the movie, and then get vol1 which they never watched to catch the whole story.

volume 2 is better coz its longer and more in tarantino's style..

i think those who prefers action movie likes vol.1 more and tarantino's fan like me prefers volume 2

sure pulp fiction was better no doubt about that

Kill Bill was really gay. I thought it would be awesome, and it just turned out to be stupid.

The best part of the movie: The Bride cuts the girl's arm off and blood spills everywhere. Then The Bride stabs someone in the heart and no blood comes out...

A couple really good parts, but overall I was extremely dissapointed.

that is because they get these retarded bimbos who have no martial arts skills and have them do stunts with wires and horrible choreography

the previews reminded me of charlie's angels in that respect

plus im sick of tarantino, he borrowed 2/3 of the plot from reservoir dogs from another movie, jackie brown was fucking horrible, pulp fiction was his only original good movie

Out of the ones I've seen, Pulp Fiction > Reservoir Dogs >> Kill BIll V.1. By the way has anyone heard that Quentin wants to do the next 007 movie and make it based on the book Casino Royale? That would be really interesting I think.

tarantino heads the jury of this year's cannes film festival, it looks pretty good. this year they have the sequel to Ghost in the Shell as well as Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 911, and surprisingly Shrek 2 is in competition as well.

I have a hard time watching someone fly through the air like fucking wonder woman. I realize it's intentional, but ever since The Matrix 9000 action movies have done this shit and it's getting old.

Don't get me wrong, it's entertaining, but give me Braveheart or Saving Private Ryan type action any day

wtf
is this the hate kill bill congreation or something?

both parts rocked. no bullshit about "tarantino fans prefer #2" , tarantino made both movies and he loves both movies.

and so do I. they both rocked. dunno which is my favourite, but honestly I prefer to think of them as one movie, different as they may be.

Oo it was intented to be one movie, then the total was too long for one movie, so 2 movies (it could have put in one movie, no problem rly 3,5 hours is like nothing) + i think some small things could have been either skipped or made last shorter, so the total time would end up with like 3 hours. Face it, tarantino means cash these days, so 2 movies instead of one, gives double money (in either cinema or dvd sales)

From an economic view, it is ofcourse perfectly done

From an film-fan view, it sucks (not the story, but the 2 parts zz)

I guess it's a good idea? but lets see how his next 2 part movie turns out when no on see half of it...

But as for kill bill, if you don't watch the 1st one, you won't miss out on any of the story, but almost everyone I know didn't like the 2nd volume because of a drastic lack of action. I on the other hand liked the 2nd one better.

I thought it was fairly clear that it was directed at everyone. Some people may have more reason to take heed, but that doesn't make it any less relevant to the general population.

...All this Kill Bill bashing is making me naseous.

The 2 volumes were originally made as 1 movie.

They are very different because he intends them to be.

They both are genious productions that the movie theatres hasn't seen in years.

Pulp Fiction is an excellent movie as well. We shouldn't try to compare Kill Bill vs. Pulp Fiction because they are good in their own ways.

And Pai Mei rox :D

Ya... thats not true at all. What actually happened was the movie was gonna be like 4-5 hours long and the studio itself said that no one woudl sit and watch a 5 hour movie so they cut it in 1/2. So he spliced in scnes for volume 2 into volume 1 and made an awesome ending to make people want to go see volume 2. But on the downside, since Volume 1 was so fuckign confusing and amde little to no sense, alot of people boycotted volume 2 because they thought it was going to be just as whacky and confusing as the first one. He actually lost money -_-

He said that in an interview.

(the them losing money because of it part, that is. not the reasons for seperating them. )

I just gotta love these future wannabe movie critics with amazing witty phrases like: "OMG, WTF! LOL KILL BILL SUCKS!!!!!!111 PULP FICTION RULEZ!". If you want to talk about movies please do tell "why did it suck? and prepare to have a handfull of good statements to ground your opinions when you do. Don't make an idiot out of yourself just by rambling the first thing that comes into your mind. Sheesh. Hmm... well this isn't movie forum though.
