might just be fear of the dark. although there are many other GOOD options as well. REALLY many actually. for most other bands I can pick a favourite song with a lot less trouble.

Powerslave album was Dave and Adrian. The excellent solo in 2mtm and the insane intro to back in the Village is all Dave

Meanwhile, Iron Maiden just released Dance of Death, which has some of their best tracks, ever. Iron Maiden are older than Metallica and still maintain their relevency in the music scene. Meanwhile Metallica does not.

Ok.......i know that part from Rock in Rio and that is just really fast sweep picking,which is very easy to do......listen to the Sanitarium solo, Hammet does in the begining 16 notes per second....
It's normal that u say "its about not sounding garbled and thrown together at high speed like metallica tends to" but it's just not true...
And yes, maiden has beautiful writen songs,but i have to say....again that there are songs like To live is to die, or Orion, and especially Bleeding Me that are just Overall better then any Maiden track....

I remember being fanatically into Iron Maiden back in the mid and late 80s. As I grew older my tastes changed somewhat but I still have a special place in my heart for that band.
I just cannot believe that I am sitting here in Seoul almost 20 years later reading an ongoing debate on a Starcraft website about one of the favourite bands from my teenage years.

I'm gonna throw myself in here. First off, I like Metallica more than any other band there is.
Secondly, A Thin Line Between Love and Hate is a good song, but in no way compares to any of the tracks he listed. I can't speak for every Maiden song, but that I can speak for.
The Dyer's Eve solo may be misleading as it was done with a Wah Pedal, and thus sounds a lot faster than it is.
When listening to 3/4, and 4/4 time, you can't really tell the difference. It's pretty hard to, anyhow. The only thing you might catch is the drummer being different, otherwise, I don't personally see any difference in 3/4, and 4/4 (yes, I do play music, so I do know how both sound).
I just want you to name a Maiden song that's faster, and has a cleaner solo than Battery (where Battery is MEANT to be clean). The end of the Battery solo is insanely fast, and very clean.

also some thoughts on the guitarists:
Dave Murray has impressed me since i first got into Maiden. His solos are flawless. They stand out in every song. Every time I hear a maiden song, I can tell myself, "That's Dave's solo" and thats a quality i think is very rare in multi-guitar bands. He's incredibly fast to boot.
Janick Gers is one of the best showman i've ever seen. He runs and jumps around the stage for entire concerts, all the while blaring out his off-the-wall solos. He seems to value guitar tricks over guitar ability when it comes to soloing though, his whammy bar trickery is present in many songs.
Adrian Smith doesn't seem to have the speed and technical merit of Dave Murray, or the stage charisma of Janick Gers. He makes up for it with solos that fit perfectly with the rest of the song. There's never a feeling of "This solo doesn't make alot of sense" when Adrian is playing. He's also an amazing song writer, being the major credit on Paschendale.
My favorite song lyric-wise is Paschendale, without a doubt.
I absolutely adore Bruce's voice on the Brave New World and Dance of Death albums, the control he's developed since the Fear of the Dark days is phenomenal.
Favorite solo has to be in "From Here To Eternity". Dave showcases his crazy finger speed and precision, and Janick jumps in afterwards with his whammy bar shenanigans, and throws down a not-quite-as-impressive-as-Dave shredding line

and every time I hear Aces High, 2 Minutes to Midnight starts playing in my head directly afterwards (They're songs 1 and 2 on the Powerslave album) no matter what else is playing. I've paused BW games to switch the song to 2mtm after hearing Aces High because its reaaaaally distracting

Being a big metallica fan, I bought St.Anger in the hopes that metallica had returned to their former godliness. Instead, I got an album even worse than reload. WTF?! I bought Dance of Death expecting another great album and I got it. Maiden is still kicking ass while metallica decided to go the numetal route.
That said, Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning are two of the greatest, if not the top two albums ever.

I've known Gaahl and Infernus (Gorgoroth) for a few years through Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom), and was offered the opportunity to record a small bit on Twilight Of The Idols (2003 album, very very good). Kataklysm drummer Martin Maurais is actually a starcraft player. He plays on Europe and is usually found afk in Brood War CAN-1 on a name I will not mention ( in order to save him from Baal's cocksucking .. j/k :D ) Since I brought him up, I'll also mention that he is a very underrated drummer, and for all metalheads to check out Kataklysm's works, particularly the percussion.
And btw, I am really that good. ^_^;;

BTW the closest encounter i'd had with someone like that was after a concert me and my band were talking with Chad Gray (mudvayne vocalist) and he said i had an insane voice yay! (im vocalist ofcourse)

Damn i just found out this 9 page thread has only 1 page about iron maiden.
I wish more ppl posted Iron Maiden songs, when i first posted here i only knew the Dance Of Death album, wich i listened to becouse some1 said iron maiden was awfull... and when i started listening i loved Iron Maiden forever ^^.

I'm not particularly a fan of his vocals. They have a new female singer whose voice closely resembles Chuck Schuldiner, but she can't growl correctly.
And technically, this is all about Maiden. Without Maiden, none of these bands would exist. Iron Maiden is single-handedly responsible for all good metal in existance today. Period.

Well, I just had a strange experience. I was listening to some music and suddenly Iron Maiden were playing a cover version of Jethro Tull's Cross Eyed Mary. Absolutely amazing. I had no idea that such a cover existed, and as a longtime admirer of Maiden and a fanatical fan of Tull, I was very impressed.
