But there's nothing in the article implying that at all...?

This is bad news.
Well it can't be that surprising, wouldn't be much of a surprise if SC2 beta became the longest beta Blizzard has ever had, I don't think any of their game before has had this kind of expectations.

You guys, no it's not.

They're talking about last year.
Haha, I made the same mistake in my state of panic
ok assuming that SC2 WoL actually comes out before then. There is no point to go to this unless ofc they will be demoing the expansion HotS (and it has new units and shit).
oh right, if it's out by the blizzcon and they hold any kind of sc2 tourney that could be worth going to (assuming they invite some pro gamers for scbw and shit too).

I'm actually thinking about holding off this year, unless they announce something amazing. The actual event last year was pretty bad, with a few positives. Of course hanging out with TL made it all worth it.
$25 price increase for less (the goodie bag lacked a beta key, WoW pet instead of a mount (making it about $150 cheaper), and was jam packed with advertisements)
A somewhat disappointing SC tournament; as much as I loved the players they had, not having any Protoss was a tremendous fuck up.
The lines picking up tickets and getting inside were abysmal. If it weren't so easy to sneak in, instead of waiting in line, there's no way in hell I would have gotten inside on opening day before 12.
Of course I'm just endlessly bitching, and I still had a good time, but if it weren't for TL making it an awesome time, there's no way in hell I'd pay for it.
Look forward to seeing all the TL people there again this year.
Don't want to hijack this thread but probably looking for a roommate or 2 to share the room with this year (staying at Hilton again). Someone who is laid back and won't mind some tree puffing going down in the room at random times throughout the day.

This is kind of true. The actual Blizzcon really sucks and there's nowhere nice around the area to go for dinner and we never find a place to have drinks.
Fuck Blizzcon now that I think about it. We need BWWI back.

That actually sounds like the better idea for people who can't do both. Unless the swag they're giving at Blizzcon sells for a couple hundred, the primary focus is most definitely WoW. And if I heard correctly, the reason Flash/July didn't attend last year's Blizzcon was mostly due to KeSpa, whereas WCG will most likely have three of the top players attending. Don't know how the event is for actually meeting and hanging out with the progamers, but it's most certainly a better StarCraft tournament (once they add it to the list, of course).
Plus LA (that's where it's being held this year, right?) has quite a lot more in a short distance, where Anaheim is Disneyland and not a whole lot else.
Announcement of a new game title is given, They have said earlier that the new game is a new IP, therefore it will not be Starcraft, Warcraft or Diablo related. Quite exciting actually.
I think it's too early for an announcement, especially since they have 3 titles coming out within the next 1-2 years. StarCraft II, Diablo III, and Cataclysm.
I really think Blizzard should do these in the summer.. A) So people can use the rest of the time after to start saving up for Christmas. B) People don't have school. C) Everything is better in the summer anyways.

not to mention expansion packs for sc2, and probably d2 as well.

Hm? I thought patch 1.13c was Diablo 2's last hurrah. I think Blizzard said something to that effect...
btw the best part of blizzcon is 1) meeting up with fellow TLers and 2) meeting progamers. the actual blizzcon itself isn't that amazing (although still worth going to at least once)

They're not doing it during the summer this year because of the conflict with SC2 release. They set the date in late October, because they are confident that SC2 will be released by that time.
Two interesting implications with this date:
1) Blizzard will be super busy heading up to the SC2 release and they can't afford to spend extra resources setting up Blizzcon
2) Blizzard will be super busy for the one or two months after SC2's release (ie. handling support issues, marketing, and bug fixes) so they can't afford to spend extra resources setting up Blizzcon
This is further proof that Blizzard is still going ahead with a SC2 release by summer of this year.
