E * SPORTS = ESPORTS
ESPORTS = TL
E * SPORTS = TL
233,000 * SPORTS = TL
SPORTS = ESPN
ESPN = $7 Billion http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_much_is_ESPN_worth

233,000 * 7,000,000,000 = TL

TL = $16,310,00,000,000,000

Sounds about right.

No but you can make outrageous demands as if you were worth that much. Demanding 40% of another company etc.

You're all forgetting that the United States still includes the deep south!

As far as TL being worth hundreds of thousands of dollars: I'm a bit skeptical as to the legitimacy of this claim. Who would buy teamliquid for $200k +? Nothing is worth anything without a buyer. Anybody remember the south park episode where all the big internet memes were arguing about how much theoretical money they were worth?

Furthermore, that value has to come from somewhere, and I have trouble believing it's generated entirely by the adds for the ASL and "Gratuitous Space Battles" up at the top of the page.

Apparently tl.net earns 319.21USD daily thanks to gratuitous space battles' advertising campaign.

Much more intrigued about the $319.21 of daily ads revenue and if that number is anywhere close to reality.

Also wonder how much goes into running this site.

I refuse to believe this website is accurate.

Top 15 viewed sites in USA are mostly porn/weird. As funny as it may be to believe this.. there is no way all these sites trump the likes of yahoo and google (surely google, with its porn searching abilities would be higher on this list).

As i'm disinclined to accept there is any truth in their top15 list, i'm also very skeptical of their figures regarding how much a given site is worth.

Sounds like they have a vague idea of a sites hits, multiply it by some bullshit coefficient and viola.

Teamliquid is worth well over 200k.

Try checking out the value of the popular websites out there like facebook, google, etc. google is valued at like 2.41b USD.

I'm not sure what this top 10 list is of, but I dont care really. What I'd really like to know is how they come up with these values.

the value of the website is based on the daily page views, and the top 15 is definitely not accurate since facebook google and myspace should occupy the first places for sure

Your edit made me LOL so hard for some reason.

But yeah I think those sites are really inaccurate. I've used them in the past and it said some website I was running with a couple friends was worth like 300$. There's no way anyone would have ever paid 300$ for the site I had.

Its more of matching them up by popularity I guess, but even then I prefer google trends (yes I know trends is based off search queries and not visits to the site, but still)

TL will be/is worth alot more(dedication of the staff) with SC2 on the verge of releasing. Esports is taking forever to boom in america with how the stock-market is and such.

This is tl.net with gg.net as you know who. For a million dollars it would be a dumb move on the owner and the staff. Christ Sakes why even ask if you would sell it? I love this site!

I think if someone offered to buy TL for 200k, the response would be an automatic, easy, "no way." Not even close.

Surely it depends on what you quantify teamliquid as. Because the posters are transferable and the archive is copyable. If the contributors are regarded as assets belonging to teamliquid that'd be one thing but if they're just customers who enjoy the teamliquid brand then you could sell the brand while moving them to a new one.
It'd be a lot of hassle to promote a new name but 200k spent on community events out to get the name out there and make everything alright.

This site is obviously flawed, reachs manliness rank should be OVER 9000^2

Also the amount of Reachs per million is way off, should be below 1.

TL is the largest Starcraft site on the scene, a portal that has been up for over 7 years and features a massive userbase, tons of original content and commands significant influence over the wider community. If you'd sell that for 200k, well... let's just say you are in desperate need of financial advice. For that amount they'd probably get half a sidebar or something though.

Priceless in terms of effort doesn't translate into actual worth.

I could spend 1,000 hours on something that people aren't interested in or is useless.

(Just playing Devil's advocate, of course.)

Perhaps in Korea, this site would be worth 5 times that amount.

But when you "sell" teamliquid you don't sell its userbase. It's like when google bought youtube, the userbase stayed the same.

I wouldn't be the one to ask, but I believe that $319.21 of daily ads revenue is estimated from the number of pageviews daily and is not TL's actual earnings per day.

If you estimate that TL earns $10 per day now and an amount per day that scales with the interest rate for the next 20 years (a lifetime for websites), then you would get the more modest $73,000 as the present value for TL.

Our members don't click ads =/ We make enough to pay for the server and we bank the rest. We have used the extra money for liquibitions, and we have paid for some flights to Blizzcon/other events.

TL doesn't have any tangible value (code, employees, products, etc), TL is a meeting place for many people everyday. Anytime you have an established place with a reputation there is the potential to make money. Any TL buyer would be buying the TL brand and meeting place. Potential buyers I talked to in the past did not understand that and simply looked at the tangible assets.

That being said, I think people who volunteer time here value the place and work far more highly than what someone would be willing to pay for it. Also, so many people have spent so much time on it, how do you split up the money? Naz and Meat could take it all, but they aren't those kind of people. Where is the cut off for "you deserve something", and "you don't deserve something". There isn't really. That is some of the same thinking that prevents us from paying people to contribute. Where do you draw these lines?

These are just some of my thoughts on the issue of "value" and TL, something I have given a lot of thought to.

It's like... Nazgul? I think said. The value we place on the site would NEVER be the value seen by a buyer. Fortunately Nazgul/Meat rock and I would never sell it anyways.

Its too based on hits, not a really good approximation but the site is probably worth over 100k easily, for example: http://www.websiteoutlook.com/www.liquidpoker.net

liquidpoker while having 1/10th of the traffic tl.net has, its much more profitable because a hit in a poker site is over 10 times more valuable than a hit in a game forum site.

you probably cant ever sell the site because the users/staff make the site what it is. buying the site = being the boss, which means they have some say in the content. and since the staff aren't employees/aren't paid, they dont have to comply

unless.. selling the site just means that someone can say they own the site but have absolutely no power in what happens within the site.

I have a feeling they assign an arbitrary $ amount to page views and they use this to calculate the networth. The $/hit amount is probably some average what a hit is worth if they loaded up on the ads.

Sites like websiteoutlook are not entirely accurate. The calculation algorithm is done almost purely on pageviews/unique visitors and their correlation to daily advertising revenue. The estimation of net worth is overly simplified and it doesn't take into account the business model of the website.

With that being said, anyone willing to sell TL.net for only 233k must be out of their minds.

Yeah. Victor pretty much sticks to those and staff-forum threads only. Pretty much everything he posts is well thought out and worth reading, even if it's like one sentence.

If Naz was ever to sell this site, i believe the person buying would be much more relevant than the actual value stapled on the transaction. That being said, it would never go for as little as 200k.

E * SPORTS = ESPORTS

ESPN = $7 Billion http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_much_is_ESPN_worth

233,000 * 7,000,000,000 = TL

TL = $16,310,00,000,000,000

Sounds about right.

I'm trying to find an error, but I do believe your equation is perfect. Huh... I figured it'd be a bit higher.

No man, TL is worth EXACTLY 1714746 dollars! Bonus points to the first one who gets it
I'm posting on twoplustwo because I have always been amazed at the level of talent that populates this site --- it's almost unparalleled on the Internet.

Try checking out the value of the popular websites out there like facebook, google, etc. google is valued at like 2.41b USD.

I'm not sure what this top 10 list is of, but I dont care really. What I'd really like to know is how they come up with these values.

Much more intrigued about the $319.21 of daily ads revenue and if that number is anywhere close to reality.

Also wonder how much goes into running this site.

That site, WebSiteOutlook, is a joke. I co-founded an website and founded another one and so am somewhat familiar with these kinds of things (not to be cocky but I also have degrees and work experience in economics and finance so picked some stuffs about business valuation). The site basically multiplies the pageviews of an website with a fixed CPM (cost per mille, which is how much advertisers pay to an website for a thousand impressions...I think the site uses $3 CPM) to determine the valuation.

And such valuation is wrong for many reasons. First, websites might not serve ads on every page. Second, obviously different websites sell ads based on different CPM or CPC (cost-per-click, which derives from CPM and click-through-rate). Third, business valuation should take account future profits, which the site doesn't do at all. Etc.

Basically one of the sites that serve interesting, eye-catching info with no substance....unlike TL!!!
