Unless Garnett's health is in serious doubt, a backup small forward is a much bigger problem for the Celtics.

More heart, more stable, getting better, evidently doesn't screw up defensive assignments, hard to move on the block. Rasheed's pluses: can shoot a 3, might be a better shooter, was once more athletic, longer, better backup center. Unless Garnett's health is in serious doubt, a backup small forward is a much bigger problem for the Celtics. But Big Baby is not big enough to play center. But he is getting good at mid range shots

Sheed will go on the block for the first 41 of the season and the C's will look fantastic, and after not being invited to the 3pt contest at All Star weekend he will get jealous and go back to floating outside. The interesting part will be how he interacts with Rivers. He should definitely be coming off the bench since few backups can contend with him.

You make a very important point, Lewis was a nightmare cover for most teams, creating all sorts of other openings on the floor. ORL lost in the finals because LA had Odom/Ariza (now Artest) to throw at him - all big and fast enough to keep up. Made it look easy in fact. Cle got shredded however and I honestly don't see how adding Shaq helps them. Le Bron can only defend one player, which leaves either Carter or Lewis to do as they please with the weaker Cle defenders. Sheed does give the Celtics more flexibility... it all depends on health I guess. Jumping topics... can't believe the Mavs are giving Kidd $25m for 3 years. I know next summer they could have some $40m in cap space, but still this seems like an odd contract to pick up.

He has locked down Howard over the past couple of years in DET with not too much issues. He is a very good defender on the block. Only thing you have to deal with are his outbursts, but even then sometimes that fires up the team and works FOR you rather than AGAINST you.
