Apparently there's gonna be a documentary coming out in May about fighting games in the US, particularly SF4. It's called "I Got Next". You can download the trailer here: http://igotnextmovie.com/ (For some reason I see a giant broken link in the centre, but it doesn't matter since the download link is below it.) Edit: trailer on Youtube: It looks pretty neat. ![]() Gootecks promotes it as follows: Before going to Sinsation Fight Club in Virginia in February, I was contacted by a guy named Ian Cofino who messaged me on SRK asking if I had time to do an interview with him for a class project. He was planning to do a documentary on fighting games, Street Fighter, in particular. I said okay and didn't really think too much of it until I got there and told him I arrived. We met up at Sinsation and he pulled me aside and we talked for about an hour. He had a ton really great questions for me that I was able to go on at length about (I ran out a tape! Damn, I talk a lot!) and also interviewed Combofiend, Justin Wong, Long Island Joe and Marn about the fighting game community and Street Fighter 4. It started out as his senior project, but apparently after he started working on it, it was clear that this was more than just a little 5-10 minute short film. So he decided to go all the way with it and fly around to different tournaments to cover the scene and some of the key players in it. When I got to Final Round in Atlanta, he was there as well and he interviewed Justin, Joe and Marn as well as Mike Ross while we were there. He also managed to capture some really hype footage from both events, so that if you've never been to a major Street Fighter tournament, you get a feel for what it's really all about.

![]() Remember to yell THE MASTER every time Ed Ma gets a shoryu. (Do they still do that? )A friend and I were talking casually about the idea of doing similar events here in Kitchener / Waterloo, to get our own scene started. Apparently we have a good # of SF4 players, but out of our 28-man tournament (where my friends and I made up only ~5 of the entrants), only ONE additional person we never knew before was interested in keeping in touch with us. (He got 2nd place. :O ) Unfortunately, we told him to post on SRK and he hasn't yet, so for all intents and purposes he's disappeared. I got 4th and someone else we didn't know got 3rd, but that guy didn't keep in touch with us, either. =/

Example: the vast majority of players who go to arcades (or used to, when they were still around) don't even talk to any of the other guys playing. Example: at our 28-man SF4 tournament, people were either playing, watching silently, or talking in their small group of friends: very rarely would players actually talk to other players whom they didn't know. I am personally guilty on both counts. But from the way Gootecks describes it, Bar Fights isn't about playing and spectating so much as it's about socializing and chilling with other players, especially ones you don't know. Anch, I noticed your list of things to do there doesn't include chatting or chilling with the other players. (I don't blame you: I rarely chat with other players at tournaments, and in your shoes I wouldn't have those on my To-Do list, either.)Maybe you don't fit the stereotype, but in case you do, make sure you make an effort to start up conversations with other players you've never met before. ![]() If you think about it, one of Street Fighter's biggest advantages is that it's (best) played offline, in-person, so logically Street Fighter events should be much more social than online ones, yet so many players miss-out on this advantage. (Myself included, again.) Hopefully Bar Fights will change this trend and get gamers talking to each other for a change. ![]() We definitely need to do something like this in our local community, as well...

Either way, send a message / invite ![]() also, sung_moon officially killed my desire to play anything but sagat ahaha. I'd been all hype about ryu for the past couple weeks only to have it get stomped into the ground and realize I could only keep up by using sagat ![]() Always fun matches though
