My 2x 2300+ gyarados and 2000+ / 1800+ vaporeans are way more useful in fights and I still can easily take down 6-8 dragonites with cp 2700+ in 1 go without using anything above 2400. Just make sure you know how to dodge all the special moves and you still can clear out high level gyms especially if you have a friend fighting simultaneously.

I know, but barring that I have 0 good grass attackers outside of 1 Venusaur I'm having trouble getting candy for.

I still dont understand how people are having 2k/3k dragonites and executors. I've seen like 1 each of dratini and execute out here in the non-rural suburbs.

Many Dragonites come from the first nests that were ever seen, that spawned Dratini. They switched them to Eevee in the first migration, and I don't think Dratini have ever come back since that point.
Might be that they thought having one of the rarest pokemon available so consistently wouldn't be great. Still, a lot of folks managed to grab them while they were available.

Pretty much. They all came from nests, spoofing, or people camping active water biomes and just playing the numbers. Then you can also kick in the people that took advantage of buddying one during the event, soon.

Are any of the event 'Mons worth evolving and pumping for a gym fighter? I just didn't have the resources for any of my heavy hitters and defenders (Exeggcutes are still subpar, don't have enough Eevee candies for evolutions, let alone a good Vapegod, etc.), and with the double candy part ending, I might as well capitalize on one of the few good stuff I caught.

gengar is supposedly good against exeggutors, which are common in gyms (at least in my area). its still subpar compared to, for example, an arcanine, but if you dont have that available go for a gengar. the rest suck.

If the Exeggutor has Psychic moves Gengar is toast. Plus side is Gengars entire movepool is super effective though

oh, god. some guy in my facebook group was bragging because he was holding 40 gyms. i remembered him from a conversation we had a month ago. he uses his alternate account to knock his own teammates out of gyms and then takes their spots with his own pokemon. so, when everyone was congratulating him, i pointed out what he was doing and told him he should be ashamed. he argued with me for like 15 minutes and then deleted his post. what a dipshit.
he also has like 50+ snorlax from driving around chasing them on fastpokemap.
i dont understand some people's infatuation with stupid shit in this game. its meaningless to have 40 gyms especially if you have to sacrifice your own team's fun to do it. thats 30 spots that are useless because you are a selfish asshole.

maybe 15 or so, 10 is too low. i have legitimately held 15 gyms before. i wanted a buffer so that if i didnt want to go out everyday, i would have at least 10 (it rarely worked, but whatever).
i dont know his account names. and i doubt niantic would spend time on it. they have bigger fish to fry than this asshole.

They probably need to tie something to gyms beyond getting a pokemon in there. Like a bounty system on gyms (the longer a gym stays up the bigger bounty of stardust/coins it accumulates as a reward for taking it down).

Hypno will be the best. As for the rest, just walk a dratini if you have it. Best gym attacker and gym holder. CP >>>> everything else

I laugh at Dragonites in gyms. It's Snorlax and Lapras that will have me turning away.
Last full day of the event and I'm going on a catching spree, will return later with results.

Agreed ten shouldn't be the max. I will try to get to 12-13 if I have the time so that I may not have to go out the following day with the intention of just getting gyms.
