Greetings TL Fantasy fans!
I ran a hastily-thrown-together fantasy league with draft for ESL Cologne with xkcd and co. and we had a blast.
However, we weren't entirely aware of the format and never finalized a buy-in.
This year I'd like to fully flesh out a league with buyin and payouts and everything else.
Since the tournament starts 2015-8-20, I'd like to have our draft no later than 2015-8-19.
So who wants in!?
Please post in this thread to reserve a slot and PM me for the league link. I'm thinking a $10 buyin, but please vote in the poll.
Format
Offline Snake draft, each team picks 5 starters and 2 reserves.
At the beginning of play each day, teams are locked. At the end of play each day, teams are unlocked for roster changes and drop/add. There is no waiver wire.
Last year, we were led to believe there was a re-draft after teams are knocked out but that was not the case. When a team is knocked out, that player is essentially eliminated. This obviously means that teams with players in the finals will have more games for points - choose smart!
Options
Since I'm not super enamored with the idea of fantasy being "just pick the players on the top teams", we could even have daily payouts. This also eliminates the winner breakdown to be more like a "skins" game - Day 1 winner, Day 2 winner, etc. I'll add a post with a poll for this.
Now that I think about it, I'd *much* rather have Daily Winners since it allows drafting to be more about picking your favorite players than just choosing people who you expect to make deep runs. It also levels the playing field from just people who have players in the semis/finals .
I'd probably suggest something like 10, 10, 5, 5 payout system (winner take all) each day so that the emphasis is on the group stage where all the players are still getting points.

everyone could just put in X amount of keys. Which I think is the most fair way to do it honestly. Since it's pretty easy to trade keys to whatever you want. like somewhere between 2 and 5 keys seems reasonable, per person.
Also I'd kinda like to know what the format is. I didn't play last year. I might play if I don't end up having to work on whatever day it is you guys are drafting.
You should probably make a separate poll for prize payouts, or atleast add it to the pool, things like winner take all or something simple like #1-50%, #2-25%, #3 and #4 12.5%.

Yeah I'd be interested, I hardly have any skins , and its not something that interests me but i'd throw down a 10.

Big fan of the idea! The time frame is great. I don't have to commit serveral month or more... and may lose interest or have other important thinks to do.
The idea of a buy-in is very appealing - 5 to 15 bucks isn't much - but a no buy-in may lurk in more people.
Maybe donations is a better way to go?!

Would need to finalize it relatively quick, since newly bought keys have a 1 week trade ban.

I have tradeable keys that I can sell/trade to people if they need them.
Also this is something we could talk about during the community night tomorrow, most of the active people should be there.

If we do keys, and each person ponies up 3 keys, it should look like
1st. 15 keys
2nd. 9 keys
3rd and 4th. 3 keys
That way anyone in the top4 at least make their keys back.

Can someone explain the format though? Like how does the draft/scoring work.

Sure - drafting is done in "snake" format by your position in the league. First team 1 selects a player, then team 2, and so on.
When the last team has selected a player for round 1, round 2 begins. The last team to pick now gets first pick this round, and it cycles back through in reverse order. That reduces the impact of getting the earliest 3 picks, and actually makes lastpick a fairly desirable slot.
When all teams have chosen 7 players (5 starters and 2 subs), the draft is over. Teams are locked until the end of play each day, where you can trade between teams or pick up undrafted players.

Ok everyone - Let's get this set!
We're going with $10 buy-in and Overall winners - that means when a player's team is knocked out of the tournament, they stop generating points. Picking a player on a championship team is a huge benefit!

If you can't make the draft time (Wednesday at 9pm EDT), please send me a list of preferred players. I will select from the top of your list based on who is available. This worked pretty well last year, the league was pretty balanced.

Apex was pretty hot against Flipside too. But that was mostly because they kept walking into him and Kenny like headless chickens for most of the game.

Average vs Total is a VERY big question. Since it levels the playing field of teams that are knocked out .

I have to agree, since that was the thinking for most picks for everyone.
But I dont really mind either way. If its a 2 way split on the vote I can break the deadlock and swing to averages.
I had avg 60 - Total.. well double that.

Hey I just saw it myself. But it can start whenever. You can just do weekly drafts and such I imagine as long as everyone starts at the same time. Just a guess though.
