The integrity of these matches is overwhelming

Why even bother spectating a game that 90% of matches are hindered by hackers?

But yeah, I'm kind of getting bored with trying to spectate some of these matches since they get held up so so much.

Would that be *that* difficult?

Then again, if ddosing is an issue that new or poorly-funded teams can't protect themselves against so well, you'd be pretty much shutting them out of higher level competition with that rule. Athough I from what I understand that isn't really how it works.

Honestly, Valve just needs to incorporate a firewall into Steam. But even highly advanced systems can't prevent sophisticated DDoS attacks, even banks.

The problem isn't usually that a DDoS causes your machine to actually handle all of the data they throw at you, its that some bottleneck in your link can't handle that much traffic and starts dropping it. If someone's machine is being DDoS'd via a traditional flood, there is no action they can take AT the affected computer, it MUST happen upstream before wherever the bottleneck is. This is why you see teams get multiple ISPs or even just multiple IPs. When they switch, further upstream the attack stops getting routed to the team's equipment, and the DDoS stops being effective. Thus, there are two practical ways to protect yourself currently: 1) Don't let the IP that you compete from be known. Previously Skype, steam voice chat, and some other things were leaking this information. The Dota2 community had to figure out how to stop leaking IPs so often when they struggled with this. 2) Have multiple internet connections. Get DDoS'd on one, switch to another.
