I'd say the metagame has not shifted that much since the start of SC2. Blizzard hasn't balanced the game one bit, so the Blademaster is still too strong, UD still struggles against Orcs, etc. I'd say that if you had a good knowledge of the game back before you quit, you won't have any trouble finding your marks again. Few things have changed. Humans tend to scout with their first Footman rather than with a militia now, NEs seem to use the Warden a whole lot, Orcs pretty much still stick to the magic formula (BM/SH/Raiders/SW/Grunts) and Undead still heavily relies on nuking to get things done. Regarding the match-ups, I'd say they look something like this, from most balanced to least balanced: HU vs. NE NE vs. UD UD vs. HU Orc vs. NE HU vs. Orc Orc vs. UD The strategies haven't changed all that much, although some crazy ones make their way to the top level. TH000 finished the WCG Finals against Moon by going Tinker first + tower rush on EI for example. I know that when I picked the game back up and looked at some games, I didn't see any real major differences, which I think is normal: the game is ten years old after all and while I'm sure there are some possibilities that have yet to be explored, the game has been figured out to a pretty large extent. I'd say go visit Replays.net and enjoy a few nice games to see it all for yourself! | ||

Brood war player for 14 years but DAMN. I'm feelin WC3 much much more. I will have to check out all the communities and the replay sites, and GET BUSY. The problem I have the most is trying to find a stream with which WC3 is being played. Too bad there isn't one like snipealot's stream... just playing and playing and playing replays, old and new. <3 | ||

There are a tonnes of old games on youtube, most of which include some of the greatest games of all time. Grubby's channel has some of his games up including commentary from the man himself. I wonder what it is though. The chat is assuming YY, but Lucifer doesn't confirm, at least not in your quote. Could be something else. Otherwise I would assume it'd be a sponsorship more than an actual "team", and it's entirely possible too, YY seems to be pretty successful. Will have to watch for announcements in the near future. I don't know about Moon though, haven't seen much of him since the WCG. Were I him, I would have been tempted to come back, especially after the cheers he received from the crowd at the WCG. is wc3arena the iccup for wc3? I go on iccup for wc3 and its all dota, so i assume that? just got wc3a and it had like 30 ppl on it lol im glad to see bnet is still populated, albeit a minority, for both games WC3 and SC. | ||

w3arena is actually a very nice server, albeit not very populated. Mind you, it's a new server for a ten year old game, and there are perhaps 100 to 200 players on it at most. If I recall, the server was going to shut down but players donated and saved it, which is kind of heartwarming. The delay is nice, the ladder works great, but it's not optimal for beginners as you tend to meet people at random. Due to the small size of the community, the rankings aren't very relevant and you are likely to meet high ranked people, or even top 10 ranked, in your first levels. If you are a little more experienced, it is great, as the lag is non-existent and the level is good. Otherwise, BNet works. You'll get some lag, the occasional hacker, but it's still very much enjoyable. The best option is probably YY, as the server is huge with a lot of people and a dedicated ranking system, but it's hard to play if you are not in Asia. And then we have this little community, where people play together from time to time. Most of us were teenagers when we played WC3, so we naturally had a lot more time on our hands back then. I try to play when I can, but I'm busy with work and I also play other games. If you want to do a game, hit me up here or add me on GArena. You'll find the handles of the most active people in the OP for GArena and BNet. Plus, if you have questions about the game, I'll be happy to answer. WC3 Forever! | ||

SK.Eric was a notorious moron, he only did it to stir things up and try to bring a bad reputation on Grubby. The whole thing was pretty stupid. A lot of players had horrible manners in WC3, but not Grubby. I definitely recall a few names... ToD, ElakeDuck and naNiwa were pretty rude all the time. It just spiced things up. I miss it all! | ||

Funny thing , I was never a BM player in any video game , until I started playing Heroes of Newerth , that community is so toxic if you don't join in on the racism and smack talk it's just not fun at all XD , then I started doing it in wc3.....loving it so far Btw aside from the topic I really wanna bring this up , how come TeD's tier 2 banshee push vs orc didn't become a match up standard ? I still see alot of replays and streams where UDs just simply refuse to use it , is the strategy dead or has it been figured out by orc players ? I haven't seen anyone but TeD use it , and lets face it , if a strategy can win you a WCG title while shitting on the best orcs in the world.....why not use it ???? | ||
