I hate to bump such an old thread, but:

I was wondering if anyone is currently playing any of the gregtech mods right now and if they're doing so on a multiplayer server?

I'm kind of in a minecraft mood and these things are always more fun with other people.

There are some cool packs out there atm:
Direwolf20
Monster
Reddit's FTB modpack (modlist)

Did a comparison of them a while back:

Direwolf20 doesn't have as many mods, no gregtech, but its released and stable.
Monster has almost all mods, no gregtech, it's still in beta, should be beta stable soon, and released after that.
TestPackPleaseIgnore(TPPI) has a ton of mods, easy mode gregtech, still in beta and has reddit ppl working on it, rather than ftb guys.

Magic Farm - A magic oriented mod pack, but very difficult, combining Infernal Mobs with a very hard food system. You will starve!
Horizons - A mod compilation of a lot of underused or newer mods. Some fun stuff, and most of the magic suite, but very few industrial mods. Advanced Genetics is kind of interesting though. Built In Flight, shoot fireballs, shear or make milk and other types of activities.

I can still host one if someone else wants to manage it. I have one running for some friends of mine, but most people maxed out and it's pretty dead.

I intend to host Monster if the bugreports ever stop being super serious which is already taking way too long for my taste. Not sure yet in which capacity or how official though at all.

Looking to keep it up for at least ~half a year/year without any changes so I'd rather wait as long as I have to rather than put it up prematurely.

We could all go join an established server that's running one of the above and pool or whatever.

Mine Your Mind runs a nice server, one of both Horizons and Monster, and they are fairly stable as I understand it. Obviously, there are the standard restrictions, but still, all good, and it's another person's problem for management.

I really like the idea of a long term stable server. But as it seems we need to wait a bit for that, playing some now sounds fun!

Maybe join/create a server, and build together like Obsi said? Something like a shared workroom and everyone building stuff around it?

I'll follow whatever you guys decide <3

"Stable" on 1.6.X usually involves at least some level of close monitoring and rolling back when something goes awry. Had to do it the other day on my basically now-dead server. Was interesting to walk back through the backups (it was gradually getting worse and worse latency-wise after a certain point).

Anyway, I'm less of a fan with the "throw every mod at it" approach having done it a few times. You end up basically ignoring certain options (strictly inferior) and rushing to a certain tech (i.e. rush that quarry/AE).

Most of the servers I've been able to find are whitelist only or severely restricted. I'm open to suggestions!

Well if someone wants to do it themselves, let me know. My server can handle probably one new Forge instance. I'm going to hopefully stay pretty hands off beyond the hosting part
